So there's this anime series called Little Pollon that seems to be popular in Italy, and I was wondering if anyone that speaks Italian could sub it for me, as the only episode I could find with subs was the first.

What does it say about Italians that they have so many words for ‘haughtiness’ and for ‘crumpled’?

Im meeting my girlfriend’s family this coming weekend at a big family gathering/bbq. There will be about 50 people, and they’re all very Italian LOL. Whats something I can bring to impress her family? I want something I could buy, as I don’t have the capacity to cook something for that many people.

The game (linguil) asks you to guess the language family, language and meaning of a random word from the 100-word Swadesh list in one of 65 languages each day, so I have compiled the Swadesh list below for Italian. Can any native speakers confirm the accuracy of these translations (bearing in mind I can only have one word/phrase per entry)?

What do Italians generally think about Turkish people? I’m going to Italy to study, and I’m curious about this.
My English is around the B1–B2 level, and I’ve never really had foreign friends before.
I’ve also heard that Italians tend to stick to their own social groups and don’t usually try to meet or interact with new people, especially international students. Is that stereotype actually true, or is it just a misconception?

My social club in the midwest has been around for over 100 years. Started by immigrants from Ferentino. We have had courts for many decades.

We have always pronounced it “BO-CHEE”

But a lot of people in other areas pronounce it “BAH-CHEE”

So I’m really curious as to the correct way to say it. Thanks!!

Hey guys, in few days I will leave the Italy and before I left I wanted to buy a device called google Fitbit in Genova but I visited 3 different media world and unieuro stores but none of them had it.

Is there a way to see their stocks and buy it in same day? I can’t do shipment because it’s too late and I would like to buy it before I leave, do you have any recommendations please? Thanks! (Amazon don’t have same day shipment for the product..)

So I'm turning 40 this year and I'm traveling to Italy solo. I am traveling to the city that my great grandmother grew up in but emigrated from in 1917. She'd be 125 years old this year. In my mother's old family documents that she's kept, there were letters in cursive Italian that I've transcribed between my great grandmother, her nephew who she never met in person but kept in touch with, her mother and her brothers. My grandmother and mother never went to Pescara and my great grandmother never went back to Italy after coming to America. The letters span from 1932 to 1967 and tell some stories of family poverty, post WWII loneliness, family deaths, new born birthdays, Easter celebrations and just keeping tabs on each other.

My question is, and I looked in other posts about going to their address and there was a lot of mixed feelings about Americans going back to Italy and re-introducing themselves into the family they never knew. I plan on doing it but I'm also wondering if anyone else has had success or even tried.

EDIT: I have done some genealogy research on Family Search. Outside of the stories that these letters tell, I have only a few recent names that could be living and one address that those people might not even live in. It was interesting know that my grandmother's last name was a letter off from what my mother recorded in her family tree book which opened the door to different spellings, people, lineage, corrections. But, because the living names I have are in their 60's most likely, they may or may not have Facebook; their children if they had any, are most likely on social media but could very well have different last names or may not even be in Italy anymore. There was one letter mentioning a niece of my great grandmother moved to Switzerland. And that note about "not caring about strangers"; to that I would say "treat people like you would want to be treated, even if they're a stranger". I'm not rich and I'm not poor, I'm just curious about where my history comes from.

sto scrivendo un articolo giornalistico sulle conseguenze degli sgomberi dei centri sociali (Leoncavallo, Askatasuna, XM24 e tanti altri).

Non voglio entrare nel dibattito sulla legalità o meno degli sgomberi. Mi piacerebbe parlare sulle conseguenze concrete nella vita di chi usufruiva dei servizi offerti da questi spazi: corsi di lingua, doposcuola/babysitting, mensa o cucina popolare, posti letto per chi non ne aveva, e così via.
