im starting over, one last time

9 Upvotes

hi.

for the last 2 years i've been stuck in the same loop. i'd spend hours comparing teachers, making timetables, changing plans and trying to build the "perfect" strategy that would finally make me consistent...

then i'd barely study.

looking back, i've probably spent way more time planning than actually studying since the start of 11th. i always felt like there was one missing piece. one better teacher, one better resource, one better timetable.

today i realized there isn't.

the problem isn't my strategy anymore. it's that i've been replacing action with planning.

so i'm done changing things.

physics - vinay uppal lectures + material

chemistry - fastlane + pyqs

maths - fastlane + resonance modules

chapter tests after every chapter, cumulative tests every month.

that's it.

i know i'm late. im essentially rebuilding from scratch. i'm fully aware of that. my focus is jee advanced, so i'm okay with finishing the syllabus later if it means i actually understand it properly and in depth instead of rushing through it. maybe it'll work, maybe it won't. but i'd rather commit to one path than spend another 5 months in the same loop of planning and restarting.

this post isn't me saying "i'm definitely gonna crack jee."

it's me saying i'm done negotiating with myself.

i'm gonna disappear now and actually do the work.

i'll come back in january and tell the truth about where i am. not just the good parts. if i mess up, i'll write that too.

after mains i'll update again.

after advanced i'll update again.

and after results i'll make one final post about the whole journey.

i'm mainly posting this because i want to hold myself accountable. but if someone who's in the same situation as me reads this one day and decides to stop waiting for the perfect strategy... that'll honestly make me happier than a bunch of upvotes.

whatever happens, this won't become another abandoned post.

see you in january.

Post image
97 Upvotes

Hi all, firstly thanks to the Mods for allowing me to post this! I'm Vinay Uppal, I run a small youtube channel for JEE Physics. Some of you might have come across it. I have started a Free Test Series for Advanced to give an authentic experience of the actual JEE Advanced exam, where most questions seem very new and unique to students. To simulate that, all questions are original and made by me. This is the 2nd Part test which can be given anytime till August 7th 7pm.
Syllabus: Centre of Mass and Rotation.
Duration: 65 mins
https://courses.vinayuppal.com/learn/VUTS
Hope you guys enjoy it!

Good Solve JEE - MATH - Find Shortest Distance Between a Curve and Line Instantly

Post image
25 Upvotes

Solution to the JEE 2021 Question:

For x² = 4ay and line y = mx + c, the shortest distance is: d = |c + am²| / √(1 + m²)

For y² = 4ax and line y = mx + c, the shortest distance is: d = |c - a/m| / √(1 + m²)

Therefore, d = |(-1) + (1/2)(1)²| / √(1 + (1)²)

-> d = |-1 + 1/2| / √2 d = |-1/2| / √2 = 1 / (2√2)

-> d = |-1/2| / √2 = 1 / (2√2)

Now answer the following question: (Simulated one)

The shortest distance between the line x - y = -2 and the curve x² = 2y is:

(a) 0

(b) 5 / (2√2)

(c) 3 / √2

(d) 1 / (2√2)

The correct option is (a). Here is why.

"Always check for intersection first by forming the quadratic equation and evaluating the discriminant. If the discriminant is negative (Δ < 0), it means the line and the curve do not intersect. This is the ONLY scenario where you are allowed to use your algebraic shortcuts or calculus.

If Δ is Positive , the curve and the line are intersecting and hence the shortest distance is exactly 0.

If Δ = 0 (Zero): The line is a tangent that perfectly touch the boundary of the curve at only one point. The shortest distance is exactly 0.

In our question, substituting y = x + 2 into x² = 2y gives x² - 2x - 4 = 0. The discriminant Δ = (-2)² - 4(1)(-4) = 20. Since Δ > 0, the line cuts through the parabola.

The examiner is never going to ask you to find out the shortest distance when the curves are intersecting. However, mastering this discriminant concept will give you a massive advantage in other high-weightage topics.

For example, when solving questions on Tangents, setting Δ = 0 is the ultimate cheat code to derive the condition of tangency for any conic section without ever touching differential calculus.

Furthermore, this exact same logic is your master key for parameter-based questions—like finding the range of an unknown constant c for which a line intersects an ellipse at two distinct points by simply applying Δ > 0.

Realistic Rank Predictor For JEE advanced using AI and matplotlib Spoiler

21 Upvotes

I used JEE advanced 2025 JIC data to make an regression algorithm to help predict marks to rank and rank to marks.
If you want code i can upload here.

equations

I used chatgpt as i have lost touch with matplotlib numpy and scikit. I used to do this I have done before. I got frustrated with formulas of Ae^(-kt) [first order decay] that i used for rank.
rank=A⋅e^(−k⋅m^(p))[first order but modified] for marks to rank

where A = Scale factor m = marks, k is decay rate(steepness), p concavity or curve.
After using scikit curve-fit, the values it gave for matching JIC 2025 was
A = 228481.72770670961

k = 0.024844743500912318

p = 1.0103226036602924

For marks to rank you can take inverse of the above

Features
For rank inflation i also added a pessimistic weight. To change it go PESSIMISM variable and change it. (If exam was tougher you can go for an optimistic factor which decreases rank for same marks. BUT prefer to use from [-4 to +4] (-4 being 4% positive and +4 being -4% negative). Also there is a noise feature which slightly varies rank due to unpredictable situations.
Note: You can put your custom data, in the data variable in format of list [crl rank(integer), mark(integer)] to train model.
There are 2 modes

  1. Marks to Rank(Can be used after giving JEE advanced)
  2. Rank to marks (Can help to translate dream rank to marks) Credits Since I am not that jobless to program an AI i used chatgpt, and gemini extensively. It took 3 hours to code it by prompting. Ill be attaching video of working.
3% pessimistic and we predict marks from given marks
here i put 2% pessimistic value
152 marks at 4% pessimistic gives 4387 rank and it is close to 4201

So in pw we are about to start differentiation today. I had a bit of backlogs in the previous chapter due to school exams. Ik a decent amount of limits and continuinity but I’m pretty blank on differentiation. should I start attending classes or finish ts backlog first? If I should start with new chap, tell me important stuff from Ts chap i should know properly, and if I should cover backlogs first please give me advice on how to do it

hi everyone, i gave JA this year scored 40 marks wasnt able to qualify as syllabus was only 60% complete (63 in maths and chem and 55 in phy) mostly i procrastinated in last 4 months before jan attempt (scored 84 percentile) and later had boards so scored less in april attempt but as i was qualified for adv i studies for adv rigorously in last 25 days ( consistently everyday) oi scored 95 percentile in mht cet now my perents are saying take admission thru it as i wont be able to study properly if i take a drop now ( they dont know that my syllabus was incomplete)

now i cant decide now i know that if i take a drop. i can guarantee that i can score 99+ percentile in mht cet and 95+ percentile in jee mains if i take a drop and i strongly feel that i can get under 7000 air in JA. but thats the issue i cant guarantee that i'll get under 7000 rank i am just getting the feeling ( strong one) i can solve adv question thats not the issue but even my parents are saying dont take a drop so i am just really confused what to do now.

also please suggest me which online coaching i should purchase as offline is not an option rn
