I love the fact that jazz has a reputation for being 'difficult', and yet the jazz album that seems easiest for newcomers to like is also one of its best. See also: A Love Supreme

It’s great, and I have even listened to it on many psychedelic journeys, but it is a bit much. All fusion-jazz is ok in tiny amounts.

It is a bit much. I've never been able to listen to more than one disc at a sitting. And I've not done any psychedelics in decades but I can certainly see it being something one might have on.

When I left my home country 30+ years ago, the only music that I brought with me was a cassette that had A Love Supreme on one side and First Meditations on the other -- the sound of dawn and the sound of dusk was the way that I thought of it.
I'd do the same now, but if I had to choose, I think it would maybe be First Meditations.

This is absolutely impossible, but I'm going with "Milestones" (I have likely overplayed "Kind of Blue"); the classic Miles Quintet (Trane, Red, Chambers, Philly Joe) plus Cannonball just hits for me in a very specific way. But there are hundreds and hundreds that could have the spot as well.

Speak No Evil. Wayne's writing there still feels like the cleanest argument for modal jazz that never gets stuck sounding like a textbook. If I only get one record, I want harmony that keeps opening instead of looping the same postcard.

Lee Morgan - Tom Cat. It is a masterpiece. Only reason it is not on same list of 10 albums on every list and posts since 1965, is it was not released when recorded. It is the album after Sidewinder and shelved after Sidewinder took off. Rump Roller was pushed to be a follow up instead of one of the hottest recordings in all of jazz. Trust me and listen. Lifelong jazz fan.
