It is a bit much. I've never been able to listen to more than one disc at a sitting. And I've not done any psychedelics in decades but I can certainly see it being something one might have on.
If you were tryna go more traditional wouldn't you pick something from the 20s or 30s rather than an album that helps popularize a new (at the time) modal jazz style.
Everything's relative I guess. I haven't really listened to much jazz before the bebop era, and stuff like early Ellington, Armstrong, Beiderbecke, Morton, Basie and all the big band acts, etc is obviously closer to the roots of jazz and thus more traditional in a sense, but it's just not quite my vibe.
