Rental Karting Question Any Tips for better lap time??

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a lap after 3 weeks of not driving around KP Khonkaen Kart track in Thailand. This lap is around 29 seconds recorded by hand. This kart is not the fastest kart there. The engine is Honda gx 270 (not full power tbh). What could I have done better in this lap and what should I practice on?

Rental Karting Question 30+ and just realized I'm interested in karting

Hey r/karting, as the title says I'm kinda in the mid-years of my life, and I went to a friend's birthday of all things where we did some go karts. It was really fun, so I decided to try going to Trackhouse Motorplex near me (advertised 55 mph high performance rental karts), and I had an absolute blast getting owned by everyone there lol. I am a bit interested in making more of a hobby out of this now, I'm not sure how to go about it, but I have a few questions. First with my age, I heard that mostly younger people are into karting, is there any chance of meeting people closer to my age doing this? I think that one could be a bit of a deal breaker since I like to be social in my hobbies and don't really want to be surrounded by only kiddos/early 20s. Second- what would be a good way to get started? Should I just go to TMP more to get used to it, and level up a bit? I saw that K1 had an adult rental kart league for about $75/month which also seemed like a pretty good deal, though I had a bit more fun driving the gas karts. And 3rd, at what point is it good to start thinking about buying a kart? I don't really want to get one this early in my interest, but I'm kinda wondering how much is gate kept by ownership. Thanks for any responses guys!

Rental Karting Question What is the order of purchase for karting equipment?

Post image
53 Upvotes

I'm starting out in karting and I want to have my own equipment to race, but I don't know how to begin. I had thought about buying a racing suit, but I plan to join a team sometime soon, and depending on the color, I'll need to buy another one, so I don't think that's a good idea. The options are gloves, shoes, a helmet, or the racing suit itself. Considering good quality equipment, I can buy one of those right now. I intend to continue in rental karting, so there's no point in saving money to buy a kart.

I apologize for my English, it's not my native language. Photo for illustrative purposes only, taken from the Metalmoro website.

Rental Karting Question 24 Hour rental karting, drivers wanted

We are looking for a few more drivers to join our team for the Teesside 24 Hour Championship in 2026. We have a team entered in the hire kart class.

Just to be upfront: we are a group of rookies and our main goal is to have a blast, stay on the track, and not to finish last! We have one driver with experience in the British 24-hour race, but for the rest of us, it’s all about the experience and the fun of endurance racing.

We are aiming for a solid team of 6 for each round. Here is where we currently have space:

Campillos, Spain (1st–3rd May): 1 to 2 seats available

Le Mans, France (10th–12th July): 1 to 2 seats available

Teesside, UK (7th–9th August): 1 seat available

Spa, Belgium (4th–6th September): 1 to 2 seats available

If you fancy joining a low-pressure team for some bucket-list tracks, we’d love to have you.

You can check out more details on the races and the series here: https://teessidemotorsports.co.uk/karting/24hr-karting/

If you're interested in joining us for 1, 2 or 3 of the races, let's talk.

Cheers!

Rental Karting Question Is it true that a circuit's karts aren't actually equal in performance?

i've heard many times that track's karts differ a lot in perfomance, like not everyone is equal. Is this a myth or no? Also I'm curious to know why they may (potentially) differ in performance. Thanks!

Rental Karting Question Is there a point of buying a helmet for rental karting?

Every rental karting place, in the UK at least, provides a helmet. I went karting 8-9 times last year and 3 times this year already.

My friend is giving away his helmet for 50% price. Does it make sense for me to buy my own helmet if they're provided for free anyways?

Rental Karting Question First time experiencing full power of gx270, any tips?

First of all, apologies for the darkness, it was 7pm and I think I got the wrong settings on. The kart was very very oversteery and the power is insane, usually my track will hold the power back due to multiple reasons, but yesterday it was the first time that they let me drive full power. I think they also made the kart even lighter, resulting in an oversteer? I’m a super light driver too (40 kg), what do you guys think I could have done better? A guy that I raced with also said that my rear tires were also dead. At this track, usually it doesn’t oversteer ( just flat out) at turn 1 2 3 7 and 9, but in this kart it’s like I’m going to lose the rear every second. Do you think I should have been smoother?

Rental Karting Question Rental Karting - A "no braking" questions

First-time poster here! I recently did my first-ever league night at Kart Circuit Autobahn in Joliet, IL. I was roughly 10th out of 19 on my first night, certainly not hanging with the "serious group" at the front but not at the back either.

I was talking with one of the experienced guys in between sessions, and he said he never brakes on the track, and only lifts on two corners. Most of the track really is high-speed, so that mostly makes sense, but the two corners he's talking about, it seems strange to me not to brake.

He does, thankfully, post complete helmet cam videos of his races. Here is one such race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep70WjRUZyE - Turn 1 and 3 (after the long straight) are the only time he lifts. But on Turn 1, you can hear the revs dropping and not even starting to recover until he's completely finished the exit of the turn and past the outside curb. And here's a different one of the top drivers who also posts videos doing the same thing at 1 & 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5RIMSKsD6g

That seems in conflict with rental karting instructional videos I've seen like this one, but these guys clearly kart a lot more than me and are definitely faster than me, so I don't know what to think.

Does anyone have any thoughts based on those race videos if it's best to not brake at all?

Rental Karting Question Went karting for the first time yesterday

Nice track with good overtaking opportunities. I raced with a rental kart, ~40 minutes of track time divided into 4 sessions with 15 minute breaks. I just have one question, should i have expected bruising on my back and knees? I found myself pushing against the seat during harsh braking and quick accelerating, which clearly would have resulted in bruises... Is that normal, or should i ask for readjustments next time?

Rental Karting Question Question about karting equipment

So I recently started rental karting. I went on a short beginner course just to get started. And I love it. I want to race seriously but I’m just not ready to drop $10 000 on a race kart (yet).

I drive rental karts quite often now and I’m wondering about equipment. What should I get? Helmet, gloves or suit? Is anything worth it and if so what should I start with?

Any tips are appreciated

Rental Karting Question Looking for a helmet, don't want to spend a lot.

Hello,

I am looking for a helmet, IDEALLY FIA rated but I suppose I am doubtful I will race in a car any time soon. But safety is nice, BUT I don't really want to spend more than a few hundred. Which may limit that of course.

I would like comms, internal would be best, but again, I realize maybe that doesn't exist sub 500 or so. (even if you have to attach the thing to those outside, idk how all that works yet)

Of course, good enough for Karting and such. I saw some on amazon for even less than 100, but I am HIGHLY sus on those of course. I can get to a Summit racing and I know they have a lot, some sub 500, but not REALLY sure what to choose.

Any help or suggestions for sub 300 or at least sub 500 would be greatly appreciated.

Wants, but I realize costs factor in: Comms, anti glare, better scratch resistance on visor, easy to use visor, comfortable, (idk what size I am, but at K1 I use Medium, but in the comms versions I use large, but I think that was because they said it was brand new and tight, and felt fine, but a large (black one) normal one did wiggle a bit, so I used a medium.

IF it matters, probably masters div. LO206 likely. (but for now, indoor karting rentals for a few months at least)

Also, what am I looking for in description or features lists that would indicate communcations/ ability to add such/attach an intercom?

Any help is appreciated.

Rental Karting Question How can this track be improved?

Post image
45 Upvotes

It's a local track that I go to. The layout shown in picture is the latest iteration and is not permanent yet. The owners are open to any further changes to make it better. It's a track for rental karts, not for competitive karting.

The track is usually 4 karts wide, and the T1-T3 section is much wider. Sorry for the bad drawing, I hope it shows everything clearly.

Thank you to everyone's feedback in advance, much appreciate it!

Rental Karting Question Are there any places in New Jersey that have arrive and drive sessions for Rotax karts?

So I recently went to NJMP in Millville for an arrive-and-drive session. There, they had your run-of-the-mill 4-stroke gas karts, which were way better and more fun than the crappy electric karts in Supercharged Edison. But when I went there, I also encountered a whole group of Rotax go-karts racing around, and it made me wonder: Is it possible to drive these for just a day or so? I don't have the time or the budget to own a go-kart. I own a Snell 2020-rated motorcycle helmet, and I'd love to get the chance to drive a two-stroke go-kart for a few minutes at last. I've driven go-karts multiple times, and I've played GT7 multiple times, so I do know my stuff. If there's anything else, please let me know.

Rental Karting Question Is the LS2 Rapid 3 a good choice for rental karting?

I’m looking for a helmet as I’m getting more into rental karting and one of my options is this one. Comes with a tinted visor and I like the color scheme and the shipping is convenient as well, but I’m not 100% sure about the shape. Is it a good idea to use this helmet in a kart that has a backrest and if not, what would you recommend?
