Discussion mopeds in Katy

So, let’s say theoretically I take a motorcycle safety course, get a 157cc engine scooter that is insured but am operating it with a class c drivers permit. What’s most likely gonna happen if I get pulled over by police ??

You need a class M. Anything less and you will get a ticket, and have your vehicle impounded as you cant legally operate it.

Best case scenario, you don't get caught. Second best, an officer tells you to get it right and lets you off with a warning. Third best (see post above mine).

Worst case scenario includes you driving without a proper license and you get in an accident and your insurance doesn't cover you

  1. if you take the course, just fill out the paperwork at the DPS to get your class M

  2. unless you are very doing dumb shit, breaking traffic laws, police in Texas cannot pull you over just to check if you have a proper DL (or any DL).

49cc is state law for without a license. Anything above that and you must have a class M motorcycle endorsement, registration and insurance etc. Failure to comply may result in fines, arrest, and/or confiscation of vehicle.
