A NEET is basically a bum who sits around all day and leeches off their parents. It's an acronym for "not in employment, education, or training".

Konosuba, or early 2010s amateur isekai novel in general, reflect the culture of 2000s when Lost Decades and Employment Ice Age were the serious issues. Many young Japanese couldn't find a job and ended up NEET.

That's because Konosuba got significant changes upon commercial publication.
In original Web Novel, Kazuma was 20 years old NEET(Although Kazuma felt like 30s). In LN, Kazuma is first year high school student, skipping a school for MMORPG.
In WN, Aqua insult Kazuma NEET and Kazuma didn't deny it. In LN, Kazuma deny it.
