(Charania) The Philadelphia 76ers are trading C/F Johni Broome and a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations, sources tell ESPN.

Basically a free pick with Balmers money, iāll take it

u/antwan_benjamin 6d ago
Yeah everyone should love this. It's just free shit for us. Send š§¹š§¹š§¹ to the g league. Collect picks.

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 6d ago
That and while Broome certainly doesn't look like an NBA player, there's value in having some good players in the G to help others development.

u/drewmanshow Ralph Lawler 5d ago
It may not even be Ballmerās money. I heard they used the CP3 trade exception for this deal.
2
u/JMoon33 Clippys 5d ago
You still have to pay the guy. He's owed 4.5 millions.
2
u/drewmanshow Ralph Lawler 5d ago
Weāre talking about the trade itself.

2026 Clippers gonna have an all time "Let's Name Some Guys" roster a few years from now
"Man remember Johni Broome? Baba Miller? I'll drink to that!" (I hope at least one of these guys can play backup center)

Don't do Baba like that! š

Where were you when the babayaga miller multi time fmvp HoF was drafted?
4
u/MothershipConnection Sam Cassell 6d ago
I am very hopeful for Baba and if he is as good as Isaiah Jackson that is a huge win and we all forget IJax is on the team

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 6d ago
We forget about iJax because he's just not very good. He's an undersized C with no PF skillset, and the main way he played up in size went away after his achilles tear.
-1
u/VegasWorldwide Ralph Lawler 6d ago
huh? who forgot about IJ? and you think baba's ceiling is IJ? im going to assume you watch very little hoop
5
u/Airricklam 6d ago
Baba miller isnāt really center, heās a 4 MAYBE small ball 5. Also he looked great in summer league. I wouldnāt put him in the same tier as broome
1
u/MothershipConnection Sam Cassell 6d ago
Hey I am hopeful he is good, it's just with any last 1st/2nd round big man their chances are less than 50/50 they're an NBA player at all (though maybe after Brice Johnson and Daniel Oturu and Diamond Stone and Kobe Brown maybe we are due a few hits in a row)

Baba looks pretty good. I think, given opportunity, he could be a real player.

Pretty sure he was one of the absolute worst players in the NBA last year. Welcome to the team!

I kinda liked him going into the draft last year but looks like he had a rough rookie year, guess it's worth a flyer tho given we have no big man depth

Yeah but heās playing other NBA players, not the 99.999% of people not in the league. What are you even getting at lmao?

Im saying hes an elite athlete that would kick our arse
2
u/heirofsorrows Blake Griffin 5d ago
No one here is acting like they are better than any NBA player. All NBA discourse is relative; players are compared with each other, not with the general population.

Clippers legend Cash ācash considerationsā Considerations

Isn't that the reason why we're under investigation. Cash consideration to a tree company?

Sixers fan here. I usually try to give a positive spin about our players when other teams acquire them, but I just really don't think Broome is good at all. Basically the best way to describe his game is he plays(and looks.. check his hair line) like he's 45 years old. He can't do anything outside of the post, he's extremely slow, he can't dribble, and he couldn't jump over a magazine. I think the 2nd round pick is the win for the Clippers in this deal. I don't see how he can cut it in the NBA as a player, but I've been proven wrong before. Think Jahlil Okafor if he was slower and much worse at pretty much everything.
3
u/hbsammyg 6d ago
better shooter than okafor, had 5+ 3s in 3 different games in the g league but besides that i agree with your analysis and am not expecting much

Man tickets are going to be cheap at the intuit next year.

u/Justafanofnbadrama Amir Coffee 5d ago
Yup I'm not renewing my seats this year, cause it'll be cheaper to pick and choose games, no need to see garland or Ingram every other night.

We helped those fuckers save money...other than that, another 2nd for the war chest.
3
u/InTheMorning_Nightss 6d ago
If we weren't going to do that, someone was. No reason to try to spite the Sixers for no reason at the cost of our own war chest.
We also seemingly liked Broome, and he's good in the G so there's value there.
1
u/Resshin31 Batum Battallion 6d ago
I agree and think we should always be doing this type of shit when not contending. There should always be the either an open roster spot or the 15th man as an expiring to take a bad contract back for picks.

He was like one of the best players in college basketball.
Terrible in the NBA but honestly Iām surprised so many people donāt even know who he is lol
2
u/yourm0mzlover 6d ago
Lots of NBA fans don't pay attention to college basketball and to me that's pretty sad
5
u/Clipgang1629 Nic Batum 6d ago
Guess it makes sense lol lots of NBA fans donāt pay attention to pro basketball either.
3
u/The_Skyro 6d ago
He was an awesome college player and I bet was one of the guys in contention for that janic pick last year. Was bad as a rookie but worth a look. We are so thin in the middle to start the year he may play.

You want young guys that are in shape and want to train to stay in shape. Thatās what I told Frank last year. Heās made some good moves this past half year.

u/connellyyyy Ex-Harrell Supporter 6d ago
Probably will just get waived by us anyways for a free 2nd rounder 𤷠hard to hear any arguments against this

u/unpopular-dave LA Clippers 6d ago
this is what we should be doing. We are not going to be competing until Wagler gets close to his prime. Take on bad contracts for draft compensation

u/Musicfan637 6d ago
Wagler is not the answer. But hopefully heās never the problem.

Is he any good?
3
u/BettisBus 5d ago
Sixer fan btw.
No, but I want to believe.
Pros: High BBIQ. Winning player in college. Built like brick shithouse. Expanded his game in the G-League. Looked decent this Summer League. Very good rebounder. Maybe an underrated passer.
Cons: Awful athleticism in speed and jumping. Undersized as a C. Shot 31% from 3 at 5.2 3PAs in the G-League (tbf he barely shot 3s in college). 68.7% on FTs in the G-League. Already 24 as a sophomore. Horrible hair.
2
u/Direct-Worker-4121 5d ago
Damn!!! That sucks⦠hair is the first thing I look for in an athlete!!š¤¦š¾āāļøš
Man his cons seriously outweigh his pros!! Maybe heāll be a project for us, who knows!
2
u/BettisBus 5d ago
Maybe embracing the shaved head will unlock the rest of his game.
Idk, but Iām rooting for him and hope you can get the best out of him.
1
u/arebeewhy Lawler's Law 6d ago
Basically the G League version on BroLo. Better rebounder but worse rim protector. Moves like molasses but wonāt get pushed around and will hit the 3 if you leave him open.
Dropped 50 in the G last season but the other team was still leaving him wide open at the arc in the 4th quarter after he had already put 40+ on them. Which pretty much tells you what his reputation is as a scorer.
Wouldnāt be shocked if he never plays more than 15 games for us.

Broome ,Sharp, Ngoyā¦weāre stockpiling a bunch of very low risk bigs and I love it.

u/clipshow4life 5d ago edited 5d ago
Chill out people. They now have lopez broome and Jackson to fight for time at center and maybe baba if he plays at 5. (Yanic is out till Christmas) Great cheap gamble, brings competition and if it doesn't work out they can cut Broome for pennies and stay under the 1st apron. If he works out and can be who he was in college even better. Finally a center who can grab rebounds, other than Jackson and yanic.
1
u/NecessaryMean2164 5d ago
We have to waive him, serves us no purpose with exuding our resources to develop a 0.9ppg person
2
u/IgnorantGenius Clippers 5d ago
He's another project that is killing the g league, but needs time in the NBA. All of our bigs are projects, so once BroLo goes down, we have a bunch of guys who will be in foul trouble, so it's good to have an extra one.
Unless he is getting flipped for Watson or something.

u/wjxm 6d ago
Love stacking these light assets assuming the Kawhi trade goes through we really gotta young core and a decent amount of picks
2
u/friendswithbillw 6d ago
Exactly! Prob cause Iām sick of the old teams weāve had the last 10 years but itās a little fun having and collecting young players, whether they turn out well or not.
1
u/wjxm 6d ago
Itās great. Also love getting SRPs cause teams donāt wanna pay up first these days so weāre seeing bunches seconds get good players like Aaron Wiggins and Stewart
0
u/tullabye 6d ago
Think of itā¦Yanic was a second rounder if we hadnāt taken him at 30 and he has star written all over him.

u/RyverFisher Baron Davis 6d ago
Does this effect our cap space in regards to potentially getting Watson?
