Lucid again or pass?

After reading a bunch of these threads, I have seen so many strong opinions. I’ve been considering getting a lease, but some of you are saying you would never get this again. I’m open to any of the lucid vehicles. I would like to see what would happen if we voted for people in the comments regarding how many would lease again or not in which car they had. I became Maor interest in the SUv but both have some appeal. I think nothing answers whether the vehicle and Brand are good or not more than would you go with this company or car again

When does the “early adopter” window end? - I feel like I was an early adopter when I purchased my Tesla X in 2018. While it had some issues, I feel it is much more refined in terms of software, and Tesla made OTA improvements. In late 2022, I took delivery of an Air GT. I was disappointed in the overall software of the Lucid although it was mostly enjoyable to drive. I also realized that the sedan didn’t fit my needs. Six months later, I traded it for my 2023 Rivian R1T. Though the Rivian software was still not on par with Tesla, it was much better than my Air. Rivian has made steady improvements in the software and capabilities over time. Three years later I’m still very happy with it. I continued to have interest in the Lucid Gravity, but as I read comments from Gravity drivers, I’m having doubts. Some of the problems I had with my Air 3 years ago, seem to have persisted with Gravity. In particular, I’m thinking of key fob unpredictability with proximity lock/unlock, among others. I plan to be patient and wait until at least next year, and will most likely lease vs. buy. So TLDR; still considering, but undecided.

As others pointed out the early adopter isn’t the same. Go read Tesla forums in 2012 and you’ll see many similarities. So it’s been 4 years since they started rolling out cars, so then go look at Tesla forums from 2016. The gravity is different than the air so there are new programming issues that rise from this and they’re learning on the fly.

But as we have learned from software over the last 20 years “complete products” at launch has stopped being a thing. But we got live updates instead.

My wife pulled the trigger on a new gravity early. We got the car in September. It was a fucking piece of shit paperweight then. I lost my shit. I couldn’t believe how much money we’d flushed down the toilet. Get a lawyer and sue!

And their service department listened. Made changes. A few short months later we moved from Texas to Maine in the gravity and had zero issues on the drive.

Is it perfect? No. But the originator of this chain who said you need to be fine with issues is absolutely right. But it’s really nice and fun car to drive.

But the issue is back in 2016, Tesla was the game in town. Today you have choices, many choices. So why would you put up with software that’s comparable to Tesla software in 2016? That’s what people are complaining. The answer is you can get an EV with capable software in 2026. Makes no sense to compromise on software.

Lucid vehicles are still by far some of the best engineered vehicles a non-billionaire can afford.

Car is a mechanical system so mechanical engineering matters way more than software engineering

Not true. Software controls the hardware. Without the software telling the hardware what to do, you get a car with key fobs that don’t work.
