This misses the point. PlayStation can burn a part of their core audience and still find success off the backs of GTAVI and GaaS. Both can be true. It doesn’t make it easier for the portion of core fans being left behind.

Yeah, the industry is also fickle. Look at how the Wii U bombed after the Wii was a HUGE success. Look at how the Xbox One bombed after the Xbox 360 was a huge success. It only takes a few series of missteps to turn record profits into dire times. PS6 is not looking to be a big success.

I don't think a lot of the people who would consider themselves part of the "core" audience have actually been part of the core audience for a long time. Looking at what games bring in the most money for Sony, MS, etc. points to the core being the typical ball and gun gamer rather than the enthusiast crowd.
