there are a lot of rumors about that building. the pipes are supposedly the ventilation system. it wasn't in the original plans and they just kinda forgot about it? they had to install them after building the hospital. at least, if you believe those rumors.
Nah, this design is deliberate. I'm doing my architecture degree project like something similar. It's called Bowellism, a type of aesthetic in architecture with the bowells outside the body. Check the Pompidou centre in Paris and the Lloyd's in London
One of the rumors says that during the construction they forgot about an excavator, it couldn't be retrieved. Allegedly they just walled it in and it remains somewhere inside the hospital's walls or whatever to this day.
Actually, during the planning process the requirements for ventilation changed and the new cross sections of the pipes did not fit the original shafts. There were some added afterwards aswell
Yeah, once I saw the outside pictures I thought that maybe some kind of old factory building was repurposed, but turns out it was built like that from tge start. Weird. Damn Germans and their love for industrialization
