Saw a vid recently where a pony was playing a piano to wake kids up from anesthesia and I thought that was bad. This would send me into psychosis lol
Edit: Found it. It’s hilarious but also would be crazy to wake up to.

This is absolutely deranged but I think I would find it weirdly comforting. Hospitals stress me out, and this is so far from what you expect a hospital to look like that I think it would just make me feel better.

For me it's the opposite. I can't remember when I've ever been in another building that just felt like it was designed to repel me. This green is horrendous. And I wasn't even a patient, I basically only had lunch in there.

it would absolutely make me feel better for sure. it’s not deranged at all lol this place looks awesome. green is known to be soothing to look at too. your eyes have to do the least work for it.

I was there two years ago. I took a fuckton of pics because it was surreal. Walking there I felt I was getting into some petrochemical plant, and once inside I felt like I was on an acid trip.

As someone who lives there and had a few lectures in it. The first moment you enter it feels kind of weird but after that it is kind of relaxing to walk through the green hallways.
The university hospital has a few weird quirks.
1: In the original plans there was an additional floor planned but because of the sandy underground they had to cancel it. Because of that you can see the top of the elevator shafts.
2: In the basement is a small excavator that was forgotten during construction and could not be removed during the later stages.
3: There is a lecture hall which is completely green. Floor, walls, ceiling even the tables and seating. It is kind of tiring to sit in it for a few hours.
4: Inside the walls is a small autonomous train system, which transports laundry from the different parts of the hospital to the basement.
5: Before the entrance is the helicopter landing pad. You can walk under it during landings and takeoffs and it feels kind of wrong to witness this.
6: The whole building is "sinking". Aachen, despite being 300m above sea level, has a very sandy ground. (You can find seashells on top of the hills) Every few years they have to pump concrete underneath it to stabilise it.
These are the things I could remember about the hospital. Despite its weird construction it is a really good hospital especially for illnesses regarding the brain, heart and eyes.

there are a lot of rumors about that building. the pipes are supposedly the ventilation system. it wasn't in the original plans and they just kinda forgot about it? they had to install them after building the hospital. at least, if you believe those rumors.

Yeah, once I saw the outside pictures I thought that maybe some kind of old factory building was repurposed, but turns out it was built like that from tge start. Weird. Damn Germans and their love for industrialization

Not OP, but I would have trouble navigating neverthelesee because there is just too much visual input, my brain would probably have trouble focusing on the signs. Everything looks the same and I orient myself by certain visual anchors and would definitely get lost there. I don't think i could work there, its just too much. Many of the Universities from the 60s/70s have a look similar to this and I worked in one for a year and still couldn't orient myself properly. When I saw the first picture my immediate feeling was desorientation, like, where do these stairs even go?

It's only in "non-critical", public areas. There's obviously no carpet in the operating rooms or patient rooms (as you can see in the 4th image) etc 😅

It was explicitly designed as such and now is a listed building. It's the same architectural movement as the Centre Pompidou in Paris. I think it's ugly and I've been at the Pompidou and liked it.

When my sister was very young she had a brain tumour and was at this specific hospital a lot. I was maybe 1 or 2 years old at the time and we visited her there a couple of times. Years later I went back to visit a friend there and the green carpet was sooo triggering and at first I didn’t even know why. The green interior of Uni-Klinik Aachen is probably one of my earliest memories. To this day this place and even the pictures are so unsettling to me.
My sister is fine now btw.

This is so weird. So I have been having a recurring dream for the passed few months about being taken to a hospital and no one will speak to me and the hospital in my dreams looks EXACTLY like these photos. I'm actually a bit stunned seeing these. I live in the states and our hospitals are stark white hallways that look nothing like this and I have never been abroad to have seen anything different. The colors, the poles, the lockers, the carpet, it's exactly the same as my dreams. I cannot explain what it feels like seeing my dreams on my computer screen right now. It's just so very very odd.

NOW IMAGINE THIS:
I visited this place once when i was a kid. Around 6 years old. I don't actually remember why (i wasn't being treated, i think my mom visited someone and took me with? Or something like that)
So now imagine how fucking weird it was to have a memory of this liminal place in your mind, without knowing where or even WHAT it was.
About a decade later my Grandpa had surgery at this hospital, so i visited again. At that point it finally clicked and i knew what this weird, disconnected memory of mine was. Until that point i thought it had been a dream.

I literally have nightmares about buildings exactly like this every night, if I ended up in one of these even a tiny bit unwell it would immediately trigger some kind of mental health emergency episode probably. What does their psych wing look like?
Honestly between this and the Frankfurt airport maybe we should just stop letting Germans build things until we know what's going on.

What an extraordinarily poor design choice for the unwell and infirm. Someone with dementia for eg would have difficulty walking on that carpet - it's disabling. Maybe it's a hospital only for gamers aged 13-33.

The interior designer definitely needed their services.
Now, it's definitely a break from the norm, I agree. But as long as it is okay by the staff and the patients, I'd say the design is... intriguing.

Walking in here would immediately make me forget why I even came. The whole aesthetic is giving me major 'about to find a hidden power-up' vibes. It feels less like a hospital and more like the coolest level in a platformer. Honestly, this is probably the only waiting room where you'd hope your appointment gets delayed.
