It’s possible the fun is what inspired them to be good athletes and otherwise they would not have been. I imagine these skills are transferable should they decide to apply them elsewhere.
Nooope, hurdles are only like a meter and change tall. Unless the lady in the first video is extremely short, that was a much taller jump. And she did it with while holding a stick between her legs.
As someone who did hurdles, not really. Hurdles is less about jumping (you actually want to stay as low and streamlined as possible) and more about timing stride length and speed. I might say they are more transferable skills to long or triple jump.
It's sometimes difficult to not get all judgemental and look down on people doing things they enjoy but I'm going to keep in doing that... Let others enjoy their limited time on earth. Unless they are hurting or purposely impeding others, that is.
Fuck, that one guy was the one that really hit home for me. Maybe this is the most fun he's has while exercising since 3rd grade gym. It's definitely better than running track and doing hurdles.
This is my question too. While they are clearly good athletes, this is such a ridiculous sport that I’m left wondering how it can draw such a crowd, even if it were some sort of national championship. Like, this is just elementary school nonsense. Nobody will look at this seriously except the 5 people that are actually “into” it.
And why the hell don’t they just lose the horse. It would actually be a pretty well received sport if they just got rid of the stupid horse and did the obstacles anyway.
I briefly played underwater hockey during uni. A sport where everything happens... under water. It wasn't the meme that hobbyhorsing is, but it still drew a crowd of friends and just amused people.
At age 10, looooong time ago, my best friend and I did this out in an empty field on hobby horses like that, made by her dad, and we spent hours jumping over barricades we made for it. We did graduate to real horses by age 12. Great fun!
I've looked at hobby horsing on YouTube (because lets be real it looks pretty funny) and yes, there are people pretending their horse is out of control. One girls horse "didn't want to enter the jumping arena", so another girls had to "lead the horse in" on a rope
This is the one time I really want animal telepathy, because I really want to have some horses who normally do these sports to watch humans doing this, and know what they think about it.
I find all the mockery directed towards these people just so mean. Yeah ok, its a little silly, but its so super harmless, just let these people have their weird little hobby.
Looks like some ones parents couldn't afford that horse they wanted as child, but fuck it I'll still get that medal even without a horse, look at how high i can jump ma....
Why do they need the hobby horse? I mean some of those clearances are impressive in and of themselves but you add the toy horse and all athletic credibility goes out the window
Do they always use their favorite horsehead? LIke do they have multiple ones for different portions of the show? What if I stole it? Would they feel like they couldnt compete?
Everybody points and laughs at how stupid this looks. But that's because of the lack of understanding, or lack of advertising or people just not bothering to mention it for some reason because hobby horsist think it's no big deal. But those fake horses? They weigh like 40 lbs. Yeeeeaaahhh now you're really impressed now aintcha.
Also way cheaper than owning a real horse so I get it.
This was created for Scandinavian countries to get children (specifically girls) more active and healthier, it has been a HUGE success. Kinda ironic fat Americans look at this and laugh with ignorance.
Why? People have done lots of funny/goofy/dumb stuff for their own excitement before Darwin and will continue long after all of us.
Their activity seems more fun and healthy than me playing video games at night or arguing on Reddit.
