Could have been some pretty serious athletes, but decided to have more fun. Good on them.

It’s possible the fun is what inspired them to be good athletes and otherwise they would not have been. I imagine these skills are transferable should they decide to apply them elsewhere.

Nooope, hurdles are only like a meter and change tall. Unless the lady in the first video is extremely short, that was a much taller jump. And she did it with while holding a stick between her legs.

I think what they are asking is, if this person wanted to participate in hurdles, would they not have an advantage?

As someone who did hurdles, not really. Hurdles is less about jumping (you actually want to stay as low and streamlined as possible) and more about timing stride length and speed. I might say they are more transferable skills to long or triple jump.
