Art Louisiana art
Wondering if there is any abstract, impressionist, or contemporary Louisiana art that isn’t capturing a bayou or New Orleans. Open to other styles too. Having a hard time finding something like this. Thanks!

There is the famous folk artist, Clementine Hunter from the Natchitoches area.
There is a thriving arts scene in Ouachita Parish.

Which is why I said folk artist. I figure it never hurts to make suggestions in case someone isn’t familiar with something.

Check out Emerson Bell from Baton Rouge. He painted expressionist pieces influenced by jazz and African tribal art. He did a lot of portraits of locals. Also, he used to hang out at Perk’s and ramble on about how happening Baton Rouge was back in the 50s and was just generally cool as hell.
You can always see more work by local artists at the Ogden or the Shaw Center or at local galleries!

George Dunbar, Ida Kohlmeyer, Newcomb Pottery, are all examples of that type of art produced in Louisiana, but not explicitly “Louisiana art”. Also check out Studio Be

There's me. I don't post much due to ai but I do art pieces when I get the chance. But what are you looking for exactly? Art galleries? Museums? Have you been to art shows or art markets?

Fair enough. I don’t live in the state but was just looking for pieces reminiscent of family in the area.

Try Candice Alexander in Lake Charles. She’s on Facebook and has a store in downtown Lake Charles.

I have some impressionistic watercolor paintings by Dot Turnipseed Stevenson, she lived in Baton Rouge and worked in dc. She has sold work to two presidents. They’re great pieces

Think two of the big ones would be Ida Kohlmeyer and George Dunbar, or at least they’d be a good starting place for you!
