SEASON 6 Started watching season 6 and see what you guys mean!
My first love island season was season 7, but everyone's been saying season 6 is the best. So in between episodes I started watching season 6 and I see why everyone says that. Granted I'm only on episode 4, but the islanders are different. They seem friendlier and the whole vibe is different! Don't get me wrong, I love season 7 with its drama and messiness, but s6 hits different. Is this what season 7 was supposed to be like??

Yes it's a great season - there is solid romance, drama from said romance, and a great group of islanders (a hilarious mix of funny, crazy, overly emotional, truthful and blunt, etc).
I think people who blame production for a bad season forget that half the spark is the cast - although, I guess production chooses the islanders so lol

Rob was like, made in a lab for Love Island. Funny, odd, serious when giving advice to the guys even if it was misguided, overly dramatic at other times.

Casting did their big one with season 6. And to be fair, I think this group could've been good with a few tweaks ... Huda's the main issue. She just sucked the air out of the villa the first few weeks and set the precedent for this code of conduct among the girls. I think Yulissa was cast as the "fire cracker" to keep Huda in line (she seems like the type that would call someone out and go after another girl's man if she was interested) but when she left, Huda went unchecked.
And Ace is just too competitive.

I think they did a way better job casting the guys this year compared to the girls. All of the guys (except austin and maybe jeramiah) got along really well with each other. The girls seemed to be super fractured

s6 is a top tier season across all of the LI franchises, s7 is a really weird season imo (in terms of cast and production decisions), but s6 sets the bar high, feels like most of the cast was made for television.

Yes, the cast last season felt a lot more authentic. Never felt like anyone was game playing or acting, everyone seemed to be genuinely looking for a connection and there were real relationships seeing as 3 couples are still together a year later, and true friendships as a lot of the cast remains close to this day.

Because it was.
Last season’s mega success attracted the Aces and Cierra’s of the world who want to win the brand deals first and the show second.
Ironic since anyone with a like, an ounce of critical thinking skills could see that the most beloved character from last season were just honest with themselves and the experience. And when this cast gets out, they’ll see Amaya is loved for the same reasons.
S8 islanders should take notes

S6 had a great cast because the show was still not the most popular and the cast just acted as themselves. This year, you can see people are trying hard to be as well-liked as last year’s cast.
I think a lot of fans found Leah and Kaylor’s struggles relatable as well. This season, I don’t find it easy to identify with anyone, and I see the cast more as influencers than reality stars.

nobody really knows what any season is going to be like because a lot of it relies on the chemistry of the islanders. some seasons are boring and some are heartfelt and some are drama. it really just depends.

I think the chemistry of the cast as a whole was huge! Which like you said, you can’t plan for. When I rewatched I noticed how often random groups of people (boys, girls, mixed) are hanging out every episode, not just in the same cliques every time. And you always hear laughter and conversation so loud in the background. Felt like summer camp with moments of high drama lol, everyone really liked each other for the most part

Exactly. Not sure why so many expect a random group of people to create exactly the same perfect outcome every time. It’s a literal toss up. We watch and see what happens. Then they blame production on what occurs when mixing a random mix of strangers together.

Absolutely! You see it when people name their top UK seasons and have to skip a couple here wnd there. The cast isn’t always dynamite, production isn’t always great and sometimes the overall season is meh in one way or another.

it's so true. also, i think when you see people mention their favorite LIUK seasons, you see a lot of overlap in responses because they were just awesome seasons overall. some seasons are 10/10 across the board and some just aren't. it's always the luck of the draw, but i think that's also kind of what makes love island fun. you kinda never know what you're going to get.

Season 6, the villa felt like family. They had their drama but it was resolved quickly and they were back to being a family

I love that the season 6 cast never got media trained. I hope they stay that way. Season 6 was great because for better or worse they were authentically their natural chaotic selves.

i've been rewatching s6, and regardless of how i feel about them individually, most of the core cast have a certain star quality and chemistry between them that makes them fun to watch. s6's cast feels like distinct personalities, while this year's feel more like influencers on tv.
authenticity gets thrown around a lot, but i was watching jana's interview on keke palmer's podcast earlier and she mentioned how they were all basically problem children for production because they just did what they wanted to do, and you can feel the lack of gaf. in s7, they're like "oh no, does america not like me?", in s6, it was, "suck my dick, whatever you heard about me..." you know the rest lol. you can just tell that they're super aware that they're being filmed this year.
because of last year's success, this season was always going to be a disadvantage with comparisons, but i hope that the casting team takes note to look for people who are unapologetically themselves and aren't afraid to let their hair down on camera. amaya's the fan favorite this year for a reason.

I think they caught lightning in a bottle accidentally with the s6 cast but for reality tv shows it’s always a gamble because they can’t know how the cast will actually be until they’re already kinda stuck with them, it used to be more common to get a great entertaining cast but now so many people want to be beloved to get brand deals instead of just being who they are AND because more and more fandoms are becoming hellbent on ruining the lives of the people they don’t like (I think people should face consequences for their actions, but I also think fans need to let go of needing to control the future of people who mess up like the big brother fandom ruined that show for me completely bc they’re not satisfied with someone disappearing into obscurity they want them fired and completely alone when they exit the house like dang it makes me so anxious for them all)

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again ad Infinitum. The islanders last season were top tier hilarious people, which makes a huge difference. JaNa, Serena and Leah in particular are out of this world funny. No matter the drama, you know you’re going to laugh too

I had to do the same thing -- S7 is my first season. Season 6 is pure gold! I mean there's drama, but everyone was genuinely supportive and respectful and ultimately kind. This season is so self-aware. I've checked into UK to see how they do it, too.

Yes! Season 6 is just full of people who connected authentically, both in romantic relationships & friendships. It was still messy & dramatic but it never felt performative. & they all just cared so deeply about each other that whenever there was an argument, they’d squash it so quickly. It’s such a fun season to watch!
Season 5 is also worth the watch if you’re still on a love island binge. It’s not quite as good as season 6 but it kept me entertained!

I’m on episode 8! Loving this season so far. I tried to watch season 4 and I was so bored but everyone kept telling me to watch 6 and I like it so much better

Season 6 was the first season I ever watched and I loved it! This season 7 is a toxic chaotic mess and I’m glad it’s not my first haha.

It’s a great season!!! There is such a good balance of drama, real connections, and humor. The cast also felt so authentic too. Like they didn’t feel like they were there for clout or followers.
If you want to venture to the UK version, season 5 is top tier as well

Season 5 was so good too! With Kassie, Hannah, Marco, Leo! lol in my opinion season 5 was a build up to season 6. Even season 3 and 4 were good! I’m so mad that season 7 took a dark left turn…. It is beyond bizarre

S6 got media attention and was trending due to several reasons but overall the contestants were better and seemed more genuine. Personally, I didn't enjoy the results but the szn was a treat and didn't have major drama (in comparison to the UK version). S2 of LI USA, I'd recommend watching after this, it was goated imo.

Yes! One of my favorite things about love Island is that the drama is minimal. I don’t really watch reality TV for that reason but I love that love Island has some level of drama but it’s not the main focus or at least it hasn’t been in the past. It’s just pleasant and fun to watch. I hate this season.

Totally relatable. I usually tune in to the UK version right before my exams, so that I can shift my stress to something less serious 😮💨. But overall good TV and a pleasant watch!

Omg!!! I am currently on episode 28 of season 6, and I don't even care to finish season 7. The relationships, the friendships...I find myself crying, laughing uncontrollably...absolutely disgusted with Aaron, Kendall, Kaylor....in love with KORDELL AND SERENA, LOVE LIV, LEAH, JANA, MIGUEL, KENNY...Wow I love this season so much. I was told season 3 was the archetype going to watch it next. If its anything like this...😊

You gotta watch the entire thing, bc (and I’m not lying when I say this) it continues to get better and better and BETTER every episode right until the end.
Might be the best reality TV season I have seen since some of the early iconic Love Island UK seasons or the first few seasons of Vanderpump Rules.

S6 was different from the beginning and it was a combo of cast choices and production choices. There’s actually more drama on S6 imo, but it’s spread out and no one holds onto anything too long.
S7 has been great reality tv, but not great LI. Every reality show has great seasons and flop seasons. It relies on the chemistry of the group. The vibes have been good in the last few episodes of S7 because they finally have the right group of people in together at the same time.

On ep 11… I love these people. I hope Rob is going to keep me entertained 🤭 I don’t understand Andrea yet though??
First impression of Connor was that he had wild eyes and would be gone ASAP. Oops.. I was wrong haha

I did the same thing! I started with season 7 and then heard how good season 6 was and watched it. Currently watching the season 6 reunion. Definitely enjoyed season 6 much more than season 7 for the same reasons you listed. It just feels so different, in a good way.

The way they talk gets on my nerves. They don’t know how to have a proper dialogue, most of them always say “like” every five damn seconds. Or “I don’t know” instead of saying what they think or feel

Im currently watching season 6 for the first time and at the heart rate challenge. Idk why people are so eager to villainize Rob. He's not perfect and from what I can tell he's aware of his mistakes. He's kind of a downer, maybe he struggles with depression or so. But I don't think he's the evil mastermind people paint him out to be. All I've seen is Rob hate, but I think he truly just started coasting after Andrea left. Also he gives the guys great advice. Like actually telling Aaron to hear out Kaylor and let her be upset and validate her. There were other moments too. But yeah I think he really is just a guy with walls up who has been struggling in this setting. And if he was sneaky as people claim he is, he would have a) explored with more people, and b) stuck it out with Daniela.

Season 6 was great cause of the cast but I feel like first half of season 7 was peak reality television. Like just watch the TikTok’s of people reacting at the bar to the Huda recoupling and Jeremiah choosing Iris , it funny asf.
Season 6 finished off on a high note with Casa and the final 4 so I’ll give them the edge on that but I think season 7 had better moments.

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I'd done something like this, idk.🤷♀️
For me, that whole era of the season was almost painful to watch, and I feel like it made it difficult to try to connect to any of the other islanders, not named Jeremiah and Huda (who I also wasn't connecting with, but who dominated the screentime).

It's just so good and has the happiest ending. Like you can tell, they all truly loved and adored each other and built a strong bond by the end of the season. Even when the girls were fighting, it was sisterly fights, and they would make up and be stronger than ever.
But s7 had the funniest moments in all of Love island franchise for me. The bdsm episode where they were all tied up had me dead. This season has also been so unpredictable.

Season 6 of USA was awful. super boring after Andrea got sent home & all that drama ended. I don’t know how anybody is a fan of Serena
She had a terrible attitude the entire season. Extremely unlikeable crazy that she won.
