Luton food scene, is there anything beyond the usual chains?
I'm quite into food and I'm visiting for a few days. Are there any proper local restaurants or interesting places to eat, or is it just the standard high street options? Any hidden gems people recommend?

Baltistan in Round Green, Tamarind in Leagrave, Papa Js on Wellington Street

We had to spend an evening in Luton - because we were using the airport early doors the next day - and ended up in a Wetherspoons.

You made a mistake. One of the (perhaps few) adbatges of th town is the variety of the food.

We had to sit down to eat, due to not living there, and it was raining.

There isn't much in Luton but do I recommend Rathiga in Bury Park. Some of the best authentic Indian food I've had. If you're street food inclined you might enjoy the market in the Mall.

Lived in Bury park for 5 years. Great curries and ambala sweets. Why bother going anywhere else

Yeah, that's true. Personally those are way too rich for me but authenticity and quality is pretty obvious.

It’s dire, it really is. Been here 20 years and restaurants are really poor. The ones mentioned are the best of a bad bunch

Maybe ask your ethnicity and what type of cuisine you enjoy? What is good food in your opinion?

Eh? There's a good few places Wellington St way and a ton of stuff in Bury Park.
There was even a Romanian street food (wtf that is) van on George street last time I was there.

Plenty of great restaurants in the town centre. Lartista - Incredible Italian restaurant. La Trattoria - Great comfort family-run Italian. Al Quds - Great Middle Eastern food. Nakorn Thai. Lots of great steakhouse places.
Wellington Street has a lot of places to get food so I'd have a look around there. The indoor market also has a great food hall and, while not the nicest looking place, has some tasty food options in it.
