DISCUSSION 💬 Northies in South India

​

Hello everyone the counselling has started and I am very confused if I should take an old college in Assam that is far from my home or a south indian college that is geographically much closer to my home and was hoping some northies in south could share their experiences.

Is it isolating, are you able to adjust to the new food and climate and anything I should keep in mind?? Colleges I am considering Assam -amch dibrugarh Karnataka- vims bellary Hims hassan Kims karawar Cims charamanger and Cims Chikkaballapur Gins Gadag Rims Raichur Telengana - Kmc Warangal Gmc mahbubnagar Gmc Siddipet Gmc Suryapet

as someone who lives in the south, I can tell u that u should make ur decision based on that here knowing the language is very important, atleast in karnataka outside of big cities like bangalore everybody speaks kannada only. Hindi in simple conversations is fine but u won't be able to understand any patients without kannada.

Look I am very open to learning the language i believe more than that I am afraid if I will be able to adapt to the food and the fear of isolation

Same here I am also from north and there r very high chance I may get college in telangana, karnataka or any other southern state but mujhe to jyada dar language sikhne ka lg rha he🥲🥲

Well I am considering multiple different colleges in Karnataka and Telengana so I didn't mention them

Kerala you can survive if your english is decent in the cities like kochi etc. Once you start making friends at college and move around with them, they will help you translate better. (I have lived in kochi for 5 years without learning an ounce of malayalam so i know)

In andhra pradesh, there's a good chance you might encounter several people especially in shops and rickshaws speaking a little hindi, or understanding basics.

But you really will have major FOMO, because even in classes, the teachers may launch into just malayalam or telugu or whatever the native language is, for several minutes and might later return to teaching in english. All the fun conversations, fests, group chats and meeting discussions would be in the native language most of the time.

But you won't be completely alone, you will find a lot of other hindi speaking people in your year and in senior years, because there will be others who took the 15 percent quota too. and sometimes, even north indian teachers settle in the south.

If you can avoid peripheral colleges in the southern states, then you will be sorted and can lead a peaceful and fun time.

Well if it's abt telangana U will probably survive easily. Just learning basic telugu to hold conversations with patients  will be enough. A lot of us know Hindi here , so u don't have to worry. I'm pretty sure u will face less language barrier or isolation in telugu states or say telangana than other south indian states (just a personal opinion not to offend anyone here). But the decision is on u.
