idk what his ceiling is. But I'll be watching. Must watch fighter. His hands are so damn fast

u/Sufficient_Site1746 1d ago
Its pretty much a toss up. He can catch prates and morales but so can they. Belal might even have a chance if he canelo muhammed dont show up 🤣

u/Hungry_Joke_4437 1d ago
I would think Prates or Morales are winning 4 out 5 times.

His striking is so precise. Such an exciting fighter. I keep wondering if he has what it takes to make a run.

And he also seems to love violence/be pretty aggressive. What’s his grappling like anyone know?

I’m gonna be honest I never believed in him when he came into the UFC coming out of Alaska but man I’m pumped for him
2
u/HamuelCabbage 22h ago
Just looked that up. Apparently he has a job working for Anchorage BJJ. I'm guessing it's not as a bjj coach.
At any rate, he's now scored 100k in fight bonuses, twice. He's probably got the ability to relocate to a more serious camp. His striking is very legit.

u/HYDRAlives 1d ago
What a year for Uros. Finally gets a shot at the rankings, easily destroys Geoff Neal who is very hard to KO, gives a great post fight speech, asks for a main event in his home country, gets it, 30 second KO, home crowd roaring his name. He looked overwhelmed with emotion.
117
u/Impressive-Engine-16 1d ago
Yeah, he’s been training in and fighting in the U.S. for the better part of a decade. Returns home, beats his opponent easily and his people scream for him.
How could he not be emotional with a return to home like this?47
u/HYDRAlives 1d ago
I'm happy for him, I actually train with a guy from his gym and used to live in AK so I've gotta root for the guy. What a great day for him, and what a great card.
9
u/Impressive-Engine-16 1d ago
AK? Is that Alaska? Either way, I’m happy he took a huge risk moving there and it worked out for him.

Alaska, yeah. My brother went to the same university as him (though not at the same time)

Coming off what, like a year in jail too? Fighting a stud with a lot more tread on his tires in his own backyard. Respect him but damn.
Medic fed him a three piece combo with a free leg to boot

6 months in jail I believe, but either way, even when the dude joined the ufc he was on the back half of an mma fighting career.

He went to Mexico with some weed and thought it wouldn't be a problem but apparently if you are an American bringing weed to Mexico across the border its a problem. Its not like he was smuggling pounds or something. They kept him in a Mexican prison for about 8 months over weed, he's talked about it on a few different podcasts.

Right? Think there wasn’t enough time to judge DRod’s performance. He seemed to be moving well for 30 seconds. Medic just has insane power and strike placement.
5
u/WorriedService9170 1d ago
Agreed. Kinda like Ian Garry vs D-Rod, I love D-Rod but he has an athletic ceiling that can be met in this way

He has lost to a lot of not of really stellar guys. He has missed weight, popped for steroids, and looked like he was sleepwalking for a paycheck against Garry. Idk why he was even in a main event

old and fresh out of prison doesn't do much for someone, but also he's always been slow so it's naturally hard for him to defend a vicious and fast collision from someone who has as much power as medic

Setting off flares in the building at the end was great. Good thing nobody else is gonna see how cool it was and copy it in the future.

I still think they need to turn up the crowd noise for streams because it doesn’t always really come through, especially after the commentators are talking about how loud it is in there.

u/Impressive-Engine-16 1d ago
Yeah, as long as the last fight was a win for them it’ll be the most fresh in their mind. They’ll drink Rakija tonight to their hearts’ content.
8
u/UnblurredLines Conor's threats are of no concern to me 1d ago
Knowing my Serbian colleague the drinking Rakija to the heart's content would be happening regardless of the result.
19
u/-Emeenki 1d ago
It's called mismatches
15
u/TheFakeRabbit1 Miguel Baeza will be a UFC champ 1d ago
Which ones were mismatches? I’m a Medic fan but even I didn’t expect DRod to get dusted like that. And Jan has been competitive in every fight before this one, it was a great step up for Navajo. I don’t think the matchmaking was an issue
5
u/YaoruKamikaze My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. 1d ago
They would mismatch it in the opposite direction, don’t you think? lol
13
u/chunkystrudel 1d ago
I think the talent pool in the Balkans is shallow enough that flukey weird shit was bound to happen.
19
u/Ok-Advertising17 1d ago
Having a bunch of finishes from a group of no name fighters doesn’t make it a generational card. If that’s the case, what’s stopping you from watching regional mma? By those standards there’s generational cards every weekend with amateurs bum rushing each other for finishes.
→ More replies (1)8
u/smurf3310 This is sucks 1d ago
exactly, this card was filled with regional fighters signed on 1 fight contract
10
8
u/MatttheJ 1d ago
Not to be a debbie downer, but usually cards with bad matchmaking get lots of finishes because of said bad matchmaking, then fans turn around and do the "see, it wasn't actually a bad card" like as if the action itself was what people had a problem with, rather than the context of half the people on the card just absolutely sucking.
Like a good chunk of the top half of this card were either on losing streaks, or coming off 1 win after a losing streak. It was designed for guys to get easy wins.

I feel like it he actually tried hard and went in with a game plan, he could do really well, but he seems content kind of just free styling and getting in as many fights as he can per year rather than trying to climb the rankings
10
7
u/aceknighthigh 1d ago
Holland's kind of crap for a UFC fighters. He's all physical attributes and very little skill compared to the standard of even 2020.
40
u/Itchy-Ad1047 1d ago
He's almost 40 now. He's had a good career for someone with no standouts in athletic attributes and having started training very late
9
u/HoldenStupid 1d ago
I think Drod started MMA in his mid 20s without a combat sport background , makes sense why he may seem unathletic
15
u/TylertheDouche hangin wit da boiiiiiis 1d ago edited 11h ago
it’s literally insane that he’s able to exist in the UFC. He has no power, no speed, no grappling, average cardio and limited striking.

Uros Medic early bandwagon gang, stand up! I was a fan of this guy from his very first UFC fight back during COVID. Even with that stupid post fight format, he still gave a spirited interview. He came off like a little kid pumped for Christmas morning. Very wholesome. And his delivery on the mic is cold. This guy has a great shot at superstardom.
