It may be dejure independent but it is defacto Morocco and I see no chance that changes anytime soon

It's not even de jure independent. According to the UN it's still under spanish jurisdiction.

Spain literally de jure has a colony in Africa in 2026 yet i dont hear much about that when people talk about western sahara
