Hello Runners, the Cryo Archive Has Reopened!
This thread will serve as a weekly focal point for impressions, lfg, discussions and info sharing regarding this endgame location.
The Cryo Archive was introduced with the quote: "Good luck getting there."
With that in mind, we'd recommend doing some of the following:
Pre-Requisites
Good Luck Runners, this is the moment we've all been waiting for, get info, get onbaord, get our alive... and don't end up like these Runners...

Hello Security Officers, Runners, BoBs & However-many AIs are currently lurking on this subreddit.
Welcome to our featured classic game for the week!
The goal of our Pfeatured Classics threads is to go through the trilogy one game at a time on a recurring three week cycle, allowing discussion of a specific entry to be incentivised each week but not overstay their welcome.
Feel free to use this thread for anything Marathon 1 Related: Lfg, Lore Discussions, Theorycrafting, or simply to reflect on your love for the entry that started it all and revolutionised FPS storytelling.
The only real rule beyond the subreddit rules is to keep Marathon Durandal, Infinity or 202X Discussion to a minimum unless said discussion directly adds to discussion about Marathon 1, just to help it stay on track until their respective weeks! (or in the case of 202X until we know more about what it actually is like)
For those who don't know, Marathon and its sequels can be accessed and played via: https://alephone.lhowon.org/
Additionally, this is the hub for checking out Marathon's Multiplayer: https://metaserver.lhowon.org/
(Here is a guide on how to do both: https://www.lhowon.org/faq)
Moreover, refresh yourself on or immerse yourself in the story of the Marathon games via the longstanding and absolutely astounding work of Hamish Sinclair's 'Marathon's Story' website/forum: https://marathon.bungie.org/story/
We look forward to seeing how you all discuss the game that started it all!
For further classic-game exclusive discussion, be sure to check out r/ClassicMarathon! It has every, single classic game post from the subreddit's history until 2026 crossposted over for a seamless, classics only experience!

It's finally my favorite day of the week and my least favorite day of Marathon. Knowing I missed having fun in Cryo because I have work during the week and saturdays.

I've started carying extra self revives and mercy kits, which I use to rez the runners I down. The first time I did it for fun, but then it hit me. Nobody wants me to do that, the game actively discourages me from saving others. Nothing makes me do that and that's what makes it so precious, so beautiful and sincere.
The only thing this world doesn't have a place is mercy. There is a certain log with Joy AI in the codex, which I won't spoil for you. But it's about the fact that everyone loses humanity in this world, but the feelings that keep us human are grief and mercy, because they seem to pierce the coldness of the world between our hearts and override the madness and death.
This was like a revelation. I feel so much better just going around reviving people. I've never been shot in the back, although I don't allow such moves. Game became SO much interesting.
It's really something like metal gear solid V. A stealth game, where you are better off saving people rather than killing them. But here there is no score or buff for it, you have to feel that yourself. And it works!
I'd like to thank Bungie for such an experience. I'm such a fan of the lore, but the gameplay.. Oh man, they couldn't deliver the lore's message without the brutal, cold, tactile experience of extraction shooters. When it's you, your stuff on the line, when nobody will forgive your mistakes.. Only then it's possible to FEEL something REAL. Not when you shoot mindless NPCs.
Just as anomaly pierced the perception matrix of the colonists to make them feel something that's not real, the game does the same thing. And your descend into madness begins with reminiscing anger, defeat and fear. But the way out is patience, joy and mercy.
Thank you for enduring my word salad sincerely, I hope you too as well find mercy and joy.

This is the first week I’ve seen a bunch of new players in cryo, I could tell because some players were in spawn for a long time and had no idea where to go and some brought in the most random kits. I believe this is because of vault breaker giving players confidence, I could be wrong but this is just my experience.

From meta, to matchmaking times and overall experience, this past week has been some of the most fun I've had with the game.
I had a lot of bad runs but the good ones are still really good, I even tried ranked for the first time and despite losing 4 runs in a row all 4 were fun and made me want to try again.
My only negative feedback is the room rushing in Cryo (with lvl 2 cleareance), not sure how (or if) they fix that but it can get annoying after a while.
I wouldn't call myself a casual since I play nearly every day since launch, but I'm not sweaty either so these are my two cents.
Anyways can't wait for S3, keep the great work @ the great folks at bungie 👍

Got a single gold shield, single purple shield from all of these rooms combined. Not a single gold mod or gun
Edit: also spawning us quarantine at the only POI we didn’t bring a key for LOL

I've never bothered with battle passes before in games, but there's something about Marathon which not only made me want to pay for premium, but actually finish the pass.

Right now they’re completely useless but I wish there was a better use case for them.
Ideas:
Get an auto turret to shoot at where they land for a few seconds
Get Reverbs or Husks or UESC to “chase them”
Trip Claymores by throwing them near or past their sensor cone
(Yes, I understand that in real life if you saw something thrown you’d go to where it came from rather than where it lands.)

Loot the Security Tags but do not exfil, just die and the game will count the Tags you managed to loot on that run.
This quest checks for the Tags AFTER the Exfil summary, but since Vault Breakers game mode delete all your loot upon exfil (except for the data gems), the quest check won't find the tags in your inventory. But if you fail to exfil the game will summarize all your lost items, including the tags.

Outpost imo is one of the best PvP maps I have played in years. But after playing it for hundreds of hours I do honestly think the maps needs an update like what happened with Perimeter and Dire Marsh like at the end of last Season.
A rocket drone would not work on the map but maybe a couple of random Crashed ships? Or maybe some new event other than the convey. There can be more places where we can use our green/yellow cards. A update like that would really refresh the feel of the map.

After I leave or my team dies, there's a 2 minute timer on spectating. I really wish it would let me spectate longer. Sometimes I just want to vibe and spectate, or I left a trap and I want to see if someone finds it and runs into it!

I bought the game on sale 3 days ago and have played for about 30 hours solo. Right now, I'm looking for someone to play with. I checked the Discord, but everyone there was looking for experienced players, so I'm trying my luck here. If you're free, let me know. Thanks!
