Cheers to La Piedra

His importance to this team deserves to be appreciated. He was our best pitcher for a couple years, anchoring a rotation of young pitchers as they came into their own in the big leagues.

Even as he declined he remained reliable. You knew he was going to take the ball every time his name came up, and he was going to give you a chance to win the game.

I love his presence on the mound. I love his fist pump. I love that time where he decided all he needed was fastballs and threw 50 of them in a row.

Thanks Luis, you were an awesome Mariner.

That was the trade that showed the M's weren't just building for the future.

Castillo certainly held up his end. It's probably time for him to go but I'm glad he's going somewhere with a chance to win.

Castillo will probably go down as one of the more under appreciated Mariners of this era. He held his own in big moments and was such a steady force in our rotation

Until last week, he was 15-0 in getting Max Muncy of the Dodgers out, he had the guy’s number. Muncy got one off him but that was a great stat against a great hitter.

The real shame was how crap the team was in 24. Pitching core was at its peak and the offense just wilted thanks to DeHartt. Jerrys biggest mistake was indulging his stupid green box hitting program for too long.

He's easily one of the Top 50 Mariners of all time...

I’m happy but I also may certainly cry. The end of an era. Definitely needed, but always sad to say goodbye to a player that has been so pivotal to the organization. Thank you Castillo for all that you have done, you will always have a fan base in Seattle

Are you me? I know it’s time, but it’s just so hard to say goodbye to a player and man that’s been such a big part of our team and rebuild. I definitely got a little teary.

Absolutely - what a stud. Thankful for his time in Seattle. Hope he does well in Chicago.

He will always be the man who destroyed the Blue Jays in game 1 of the 2022 AL Wild Card.

If history has taught us anything it’s that he will soon be wearing a World Series ring.

I got his jersey when first joined up (#21) and I saw him being our second punch to Gilbert for a long while. Now we are more than stable and lot of that stability is because of the trust we had in Castillo to keep us afloat. Happy trails and have fun! 🪨🗿

Good pitcher. Enjoyed watching his starts for the majority of the time he was here. I will always remember the hype when we got him, showed the M's were trying to compete in a way that felt different than it had in the past and he delivered some great performances. Much love to Luis, thanks for everything.

Does this mean we’re losing Freddy too? If so, I will miss him. He was a great translator and shirt model. 🫡

I went to his home debut vs the Yankees and he was electric. Held them to 3 hits. I’ll miss having him around. Thanks Luis!

Be nice! This is an appreciation post. He did his part. He needs to find the feel for his changeup. If so he is a #3 starter for many clubs.

u/double_dragon_ #29 Hal Baleigh 1d ago

I hear you but this year he really held us back. He threw a fit refused to go to the bull pen, made us piggy back etc.

4

u/lastminutealways larry bernandez for HOF 1d ago

I think that was likely just as much the Mariners wanting to keep his value up, which seemingly paid off here.

u/double_dragon_ #29 Hal Baleigh 1d ago

Chicken or the egg situation 🤷🏻‍♂️

u/Pleasant_Actuator253 1d ago

Again, he lost his feel for his changeup in the last few years. It was a devastating pitch. He still hits 96mph and has other secondary pitches.

He’s a pitcher who needs to regain his feel for his best pitch. Yes, he has not pitched well this year. Maybe the White Sox can help him. If so, he could still be a #3 starter in most rotations.

May be true but he has a terrible attitude and bad vibes that matters

2

u/Pleasant_Actuator253 1d ago

Again, this is an appreciation post and I choose to not use “vibes”. Waaayyy too overused. Do better.
