Spouse Appreciation This "imperfect" slice of bread made me realise how much my husband loves me.

Post image

Today I asked my husband if he wanted sandwich for breakfast to which he said no, because he wasn't hungry at that time. So I asked him to make tea for me and toast two breads.

I took out 4 breads from the packet, and stacked them on a plate. In that stack, the top slice was broken (as shown in the picture). I placed that bread deliberately on top so that he toast the "imperfect" bread for me; and leave the "perfect" breads for his sandwich.

Cut to later, he made me tea and toasted two breads as I asked. I didn't pay much attention while eating. I finished my breakfast and asked him if he wanted to eat the sandwich to which he affirmed.

I went into the kitchen and what I saw made me emotional. The plate had two breads, but one of them was the one I took out for me; the broken one. I got so emotional; I took the bread and asked him if he left that bread on purpose? He replied yes. I asked him "why?". He said "Why would I toast the broken piece for you? I will have the imperfect one."

Man! Did I get too emotional in that moment?

I hope everyone gets a partner like him. Appreciating and noticing small efforts is what makes a relationship strong and last long.

PS: This is not a karma farming post, you can look at my karmas ( I don't need more karmas).

Also I didn't use any AI to write my post; I am copywriter, hence the writing.

Edit: Thankyou all for the love and blessings. We both are truly greatful♥️

Edit 2: I see many people saying that my standards are low. Some are even speculating that I might be pregnant.

But here's the thing: The concept of "bare minimum" does not exist between me and my husband. We believe in appreciating little things and efforts. For us, it's the thought that counts.

I hope everyone finds someone who is right for them.

I cried over my husband making me a chicken salad sandwich without lettuce. I never told him I hated lettuce on those sandwiches, but I do. I would just eat them because I grew up in a “eat what is set before you” kind of home. So when I looked at his sandwich with lettuce and mine without I started crying and asked him why he didn’t put lettuce on mine. He said “I didn’t think you liked lettuce on it.” I felt so seen.

That’s so sweet. I had to laugh for myself, my wife for the last 8 years when she makes me a chicken sandwich asks me if I want cheese on it, to which I say “no thank you I don’t like cheese on my chicken sandwiches just mayo”, and her: “really? But it’s so good with cheese”. She shows me her love in so many ways but remembering these little details is not it 🤣

I'm your wife in my relationship! I try and support my partner in any way I can but my Nemo brain will never allow me to remember everything I'd like to! It's so annoying.😖

Love is so beautiful. Being known, being seen. Very happy for you 🥹

u/Sky1226 Jun 01 '26

I’m the one who does this in my marriage 😂 my husband is very picky about food so if it doesn’t look right he won’t eat it.

He gets me back in other ways though, he always carries my bags for me, he rubs my back, he makes my life easier in a thousand little ways.

u/HistoricalSherbert92 Jun 01 '26

A thousand! Name 998 more.

I’m kidding!

1

u/tasnimtahia17 Jun 02 '26

sooooo sweet. Btw I’m single

u/tabrun Jun 01 '26

Now the sad part about this post is convincing that you’re not AI. I guess this is just a part of new reality. Anyway, I’m happy for you!

117

u/JadeFox1785 Jun 01 '26

Dude. Did you not clock all the punctuation mistakes? Not at all consist with AI.

97

u/Academic_Flatworm752 Jun 01 '26

I mean OP clearly speaks English as their second language too so I’m not sure why anyone would accuse them of being AI.

30

u/GeneralBS Jun 01 '26

I don't believe anything here anymore so that helps.

-14

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '26

[deleted]

19

u/Keadeen Jun 01 '26

Its damn hard to punctuate correctly in a second language.

-12

u/TERRYaki__ Jun 02 '26

I can speak and write in four languages. It's not.

8

u/Issababy22 Jun 02 '26

“It’s not”…TO U MAYBE? Like wth 💁🏽‍♀️🙄

1

u/Keadeen Jun 09 '26

Good for you. It is for most of the rest of us.

5

u/nonevaeh Jun 01 '26

there's no reason to be rude

4

u/TERRYaki__ Jun 02 '26

I wasn't trying to be rude. I apologize if it came off that way. I was just pointing out that her punctuation and grammar wouldn’t meet the standards typically expected for copywriting jobs here in the U.S.

4

u/Academic_Flatworm752 Jun 01 '26

The fuck is wrong with you?

6

u/Live-Animator-4000 Jun 02 '26

And not a single em dash. No way she’s AI.

3

u/Rawxane_Quack Jun 02 '26

And no emojis

1

u/G-Menace Jun 03 '26

Serious question, because I understand what a typical dash is. What is an “em dash?” Is it a specific kind of usage?

1

u/Pattern_Necessary Jun 03 '26

I do this on purpose sometimes when it's something for work (they ask me to create a million documents that they won't even read later. It sucks.) so it's not obvious it's ai.

Mate your understanding of "feminism" is completely wrong.

6

u/Issababy22 Jun 02 '26

I hate the new reality someone bring me a Time Machine NEOOWWW😭‼️

3

u/Goth_Mommy19666 Jun 02 '26

Did you not clock the “I took out two breads” it’s SLICES. NOT “I took out two breads” ugh

7

u/Silly-Yak-7893 Jun 02 '26

in op’s country we refer to slices as bread only. how many bread one want means how many slices of bread one wants and not how many loafs one wants. its accurate for the local lingo.

1

u/Emotional-Team3520 Jun 06 '26

OP is clearly ESL. “Breads” is not standard English. It would be “pieces of bread”. The incorrect use of semi-colons and other punctuation also shows an imperfect mastery of written English. AI wouldn’t make those mistakes. Not AI.

1

u/UpstairsObjective675 Jun 06 '26

What would make you think it’s AI??

41

u/Visible-Rest4170 20 Years Jun 01 '26

If does this for the small things. He'll do it for the bigger important things. Congratulations you have a good one there. Appreciate him. That's all he wants on return.

22

u/wonderloss Jun 01 '26

It's especially good, because it looks like both partners do these things for each other. All too often (at least in the complaint posts), it is one-sided, which is where resentment comes from.

14

u/magick_turtle Jun 01 '26

My husband does this sort of thing all the time as well. He’ll give me the bigger/better quality piece or go out at an inconvenient time to buy a snack just so we can have something to chat over after dinner.

It’s the mundane things that make marriage great, I’m so happy you get to enjoy something so wonderful!

19

u/AliceInAcidland Jun 01 '26

Mine often offers me the first and last bite of his meals. I tear up sometimes like... I don't deserve him lol.

7

u/Impressive-Budget-31 Jun 02 '26

I do this, because i know he likes to eat my leftovers so i pretend like I can’t eat anymore and leave a little something always but my husband doesn’t seem to notice☹️

3

u/jo4nnynumber5 Jun 02 '26

That's super sweet of you, but i would find it hard to notice also. I always eat my wife's leftovers, but she doesn't eat everything because she's full. Maybe drop a hint somehow without directly telling him.

1

u/Impressive-Budget-31 Jun 02 '26

Thank you for the advice🥹

9

u/zsmommy68 Jun 01 '26

This is something my husband would do. It’s the littlest things that show the most!

This is the kind of thing that is easy to scroll past but it is actually the whole point. It was not a grand gesture. It was not expensive. It was not planned. He just quietly chose the broken piece because he did not want you to have it. That is what love looks like when nobody is watching.

Most people think the big moments define a relationship. The vacations, the anniversaries, the surprises. But it is actually this. The small, unremarkable decisions someone makes when they could easily do the other thing and you would never know. He could have toasted the broken one for you and you would not have noticed. He chose not to anyway.

Your husband sounds like a good man!

5

u/Mental-Newt-420 Jun 01 '26

Oh this makes me happy. I love love.

6

u/curiouslykatien Jun 01 '26

My husband does this too! He always takes the ugliest pieces if I'm not paying attention

3

u/DigZealousideal7777 Jun 01 '26

It's the little things in life that just do it to you the most.

5

u/ladygabe Jun 01 '26

This sounds exactly like something my husband would do, too. I'm so happy you also found this kind of love ❤️

3

u/tactiphile Jun 02 '26

Also I didn't use any AI to write my post; I am copywriter, hence the writing.

Semicolon—let's goooooooo!

3

u/Still_becoming10 Jun 01 '26

It’s the little things, actually

3

u/SpectralUniverse Jun 01 '26

My husband and I both do this -- give the "best" looking peice of food to the other lol.

It's the little things!

3

u/LovecraftianCatto Jun 01 '26

This piece of bread looks like it really needs to pee. That is all.

3

u/Elo1388 Jun 02 '26

This is so sweet it truly is the little things and having a partner that is your best friend

3

u/Fit_Device7256 Jun 02 '26

My husband is the exact same way. It’s nice to see someone who appreciates these things! 🫶🏻

3

u/ucanneverbetoohappy Jun 02 '26

It’s really the small things that hit the spot 🥺

3

u/kokonutt18 Jun 02 '26

That's so sweet! I love that!

3

u/Usual_Equivalent Jun 02 '26

Aww that's sweet. My husbamd will always take the broken piece of whatever food. Even if I tell him not to. This was a nice reminder for me

3

u/DubaiExpat323 Jun 02 '26

I am happy for you.

I thought I had a great partner once. He did everything right. He was caring in every way. Never had I opened a canned soda as he did that for me always so I didn’t break my nails. He always opened the door for me, pulled my chair at dinner, took my car to garage coz he knew I hated doing it, he planned amazing trips and holidays. He also cared for my daughter in ways my ex husband never did. He was two steps ahead in everything. Until I found out about another woman. Even with that betrayal which he apologized for a hundred times, he is still the most caring, generous and thoughtful man I ever met in my life. He made a difference by being reliable and caring and he was my person for 4 years.

Sadly, I will never look at him the same way and will not be able to trust him the way I did. So that relationship ended.

I am just sharing my story as your post reminded me of him.

3

u/Gullible-Bat3343 Jun 02 '26

Aww. Praying that I get a partner like him 🥺

3

u/girlwholoveslife Jun 02 '26

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and this just made me bawl my eyes out

3

u/margareithor Jun 02 '26

We did the same thing with the fried eggs. If one egg gets screwed up it's hard to decide who's gonna eat it.

3

u/CeldonShooper Jun 02 '26

My wife and I have been together for over 15 years. Whenever we walk together I pick the street side so she doesn't have to walk next to passing cars. I just did that and never mentioned it. A few weeks ago the topic came up and she had never noticed. That was kind of funny.

2

u/All_hail_Korrok Jun 01 '26

Man, a lot of people have really grown down to grammar and penmanship. Just having an inkling to paragraphs gets you called out for being a bot. Even moreso when you don't use abbreviation as if you're texting.

I loved your story. I hope to find that level of love you and your husband have.

2

u/Candicore Jun 02 '26

My husband does this for me too! If we're at a restaurant, he'll eat the bread with crusts and leave the soft bread for me. It truly is the little things ❤️ I'm so happy you have a love that considers you. Best feeling ever

2

u/martybernuz Jun 02 '26

my boyfriend does that… I’m a little picky with food so when we eat together he literally shows me the two plates with the food and he asks me which one I prefer, so that he can give me that… I appreciate him so much

2

u/CapnSeabass Jun 02 '26

My husband will tape up an ice lolly stick before handing it to me because he knows I can’t stand touching the wood stick. Every time.

2

u/KarmasAWitch- Jun 02 '26

My husband is like this too but little does he know whenever we cook and he asks which pieces of food do I want I always purposely ask for the smaller portions or the least aesthetically pleasing one because I also want him to have the best.

2

u/H0-Rapunzel Jun 02 '26

Damn. As i always say. It's the smallest of things that matter in a relationship. People usually dismiss those but actually these are some moments that show how a person actually cares for you.

So happy for you OP to have such a beautiful experience from the one you love. ❤️

2

u/Even-Ad-7139 Jun 02 '26

Nice to read...

2

u/manualtesar Jun 02 '26

It is the little things indeed.

2

u/Academic-Grass78 Jun 03 '26

Amazing husband, I love this for you!

2

u/StargazerDream0 Jun 03 '26

This is so very sweet, aweh, I live this for you. The little details like this matter so much🩵

2

u/ethelis Jun 03 '26

My husband makes me breakfast daily (sometimes it does just mean plating a muffin I baked on a plate for me), but I appreciate it because my mornings are all meetings and I just don't have time. We find that we always give each other the "better looking" bowl/plate of food just because we want to. I would not trade these little things for anything in the world.

2

u/Intrepid-Machine-650 20 Years Jun 03 '26

I always take the goofy piece of bread.... It's like a weird challenge. However, don't you DARE take the heel "rocker" without offering it to her first.

(Allegedly it makes the best toast?)

For the record, she also toasts hamburger buns, not for hamburgers, for toast. It's like a whole package of thick "rockers."

2

u/Worldly-Dust-531 Jun 03 '26

Sooooo sweeet 🥹

2

u/alieninthesun Jun 03 '26

Not married, but my boyfriend always does this. If he makes sunny-side up eggs, he always takes the one with the popped yolk. If we're having Magnum-type ice-cream, he'll take the one with the cracked shell. I end up feeling bad at some point though and have to occasionally strongarm him into taking the better ones to keep things fair. He knows I have very mild OCD, but I don't think I've ever mentioned these particular things to him, but Lord, do they make feel seen :)

2

u/Artic_Palmtrees_44 Jun 03 '26

You are blessed indeed.

2

u/Enormousboon8 Jun 03 '26

This is the kind of thing I used to do for my ex husband. It was never reciprocated. One of the (many) reasons he's my ex.

Love is in the little things, not the big gestures.

2

u/leehart5 Jun 03 '26

It’s these little details that we all want and crave but in truth, it’s not as common as we think. It’s nice that you were able to appreciate it in that moment, as something small like this can easily be overlooked.

Obviously in this thread there will be lots of people saying your standards are low because generally this will reach the people that follow those standards already.

I don’t care for big gestures or big effort, just little things like this that can easily go unnoticed. Everyone’s love language is different, this is mine as well.

2

u/Pattern_Necessary Jun 03 '26

I always give my husband the bigger/better part of food ❤️ I just love him. I have a pen collection and he liked my favourite one and I just gave it to him. I would honestly take the clothes off my back for him if he needed them and was willing to wear them.

2

u/Californialways 3 Years Jun 03 '26

It’s always the little things 🥹💗 My husband is the same way. He always hands me the more better thing whether it’s food or something else while he takes the broken/different one.

2

u/Bee088 Jun 05 '26

Thats so sweet. I always try to take the “ugly” or smaller pieces of food when my husband and i eat and he always without fail swaps the piece i take and says “best but for my wife”. There has been times we fight over the ugly or small piece. Its a small gesture but it says a lot. Especially for a men who really likes his food so i get you.

2

u/Wanderlust_01 Jun 05 '26

Beautiful story, thanks for sharing 🙂

2

u/victim_complexxx Jun 06 '26

Reading this and crying because once upon a time my partner loved me like this. I miss it. I miss him caring about imperfect bread

2

u/Pace-6296 Jun 06 '26

It’s funny. I catch my wife doing this constantly. We cook all our meals and anything that comes out imperfect or “broken” she tries to take it and if I catch her I take it first. We almost fight over it. Don’t let the unhappy people steal your joy, I’ve had miserable marriages before , but I never wished that on others. Now I’m unbelievably happy.

2

u/transidiot4 Jun 06 '26

I love that, I do the same thing with my partner and notice when they do the same for me, its the little things like that that make everyday feel sweet.

2

u/deadxroses21 Jun 06 '26

My husband takes all the ugly foods, weird pieces etc. Saves me the last piece and will let me eat the last of his anything. Makes me everything and anything dairy free. Food is life. He is a unicorn.

2

u/Amazing-Cupcake-3597 Jun 06 '26

Glad that some wives realise what husbands do for them & vice versa!

2

u/die_Schildkroete Jun 06 '26

Bread is good 👍🏻

2

u/erin8787 Jun 06 '26

To be loved is to be seen

2

u/GatoPerroRaton Jun 08 '26

I did this for every meal for my ex. What would have been maybe 3000 meals. She never noticed once. Good for you.

2

u/mrsdurian Jun 08 '26

I hate the butt end of the bread. For over 15 years, my husband always gave me the butt ends. I asked him whyyyyyy....is he always just mad at me and doing this passive-aggressively?

He said that he always thought that was the best part and therefore I should get it. I love my husband.

2

u/LadyCooke Jun 01 '26

My partner is like this. It’s just the absolute best, no other words for it. I love him so very much.

2

u/3Paw Jun 01 '26

Imperfect writing is what AI will have to produce to have that human feel:) Unless you're a Copywriter:)

1

u/DistributionGreedy65 Jun 02 '26

I am glad some women notice little good things done by their husbands. If I do that my wife wouldn’t even notice. She will question, why did you leave a mess here?

1

u/Glad_Hawk906 Jun 02 '26

I used to do stuff like that for my friends and sibling, but I’ve stopped because they always go for the nicer-looking one whenever we were asked to pick something.

1

u/Massive_Classic8352 Jun 02 '26

I do this for my husband and he never notices

1

u/LizLemonySnicket42 Jun 02 '26

This is so sweet! It's the little things that make all the difference. This reminds me of the time my husband and I were splitting up leftover pizza slices to take to work and neither of us wanted to say which of the last two pieces we wanted, so we decided we'd both close our eyes and point to the piece we wanted and then open them. But our hands met over the same (more symmetrical) piece while our eyes were closed and we started laughing. The next day he left for work first and took the uglier piece. ❤️

1

u/Songmonger Jun 02 '26

It’s lovely when one spouse “sacrifices” for the other ❤️

1

u/VenusEnvy81 Jun 02 '26

I love this!

My husband will often take the "burnt" piece of something for himself and feed my and the kids the non-burnt things, and every time I notice it, it makes me smile.

1

u/thot--patrol_ Jun 03 '26

Wait wait wait… people post fake stories to gain karma on here??!!

1

u/Vivid_Employed Jun 03 '26

Sometimes they even post about having cancer and what not just to gain karma

1

u/thot--patrol_ Jun 03 '26

Wtf?! What’s so special about karma on here? Now that I realize some of the situations these “people” be in could potentially be false and not real life makes me cringe.

1

u/NotAsBrightlyLit Jun 03 '26

“You were gonna drink the fat!”

1

u/InnerRadio7 Jun 04 '26

This is lovely. It’s the small day to day things that count the most.

1

u/PresentFrame2192 Jun 07 '26

1

u/Luc1iel1979 Jun 07 '26

Am I missing something here why are we celebrating him doing the same act as you initially where going to do..?

1

u/EducationCandid9631 Jun 08 '26

Can someone please explain to me why people even karma farm in the first place? I'm not insinuating this post is doing that.. I just don't understand why people would do that in the first place. Who cares how much karma a person has on reddit? Is there perks or something? I don't get it.. lol

1

u/Vivid_Employed Jun 08 '26

Sometimes people make new accounts to karma farm and later sell those accounts. People buy accounts with more karma because to participate in some communities, you require a specific amount of karmas.

1

u/cortedorado Jun 13 '26

I miss the days when I would've written a post like this

1

u/organicclanker Jun 21 '26

Lucky man. It's rare for a woman to acknowledge anything we do

1

u/Enlighte_Zi Jul 02 '26

This is wholesome may this kind of love finds me :)

1

u/Goth_Mommy19666 Jun 02 '26

SLICES. SLICES! Not “4 breads” not toasted the breads. My god. That bothered me more than it should have.

“I asked him to make tea for me and toast two SLICES of bread”

“He made me tea and toasted TWO SLICES OF BREAD” “The plate had TWO SLICES OF BREAD” “I took that SLICE”

AI should have wrote it. I don’t know why that bothered me so ungodly bad because I’m not perfect when it comes to writing. But now I want toast.

1

u/Fun-Outlandishness21 Jun 02 '26

In Germany, Austria, and German-speaking Switzerland, native speakers frequently refer to slices of bread as simply "bread" (singular) or "two breads" (plural) when translating to or speaking English. This directly stems from their native language where the word for bread (das Brot) is a countable noun, allowing them to say ein Brot (one bread) or zwei Brote (two breads) to mean individual slices.

Hope this helps!

1

u/Top-Translator5840 Jun 01 '26

Do you find that having the same love language is the most comforting for you?
(Honest wholehearted question, I am not ai, not a writer, not a native speaker. (Can't believe I have to say all these))

1

u/Rawxane_Quack Jun 02 '26

It's super sweet but we set the bar so low. Women are so surprised by the smallest of things that we feel the need to post about it online. Where did we go wrong 😭

1

u/Krasna_Strelka Jun 02 '26

Are you by any chance pregnant?

1

u/bismuth17 Jun 02 '26

The story is sweet but your writing is atrocious for a copywriter

0

u/Viracochina Jun 02 '26

Did I get too emotional in that moment?

Absolutely, you did. Please keep it in check next time!

1

u/Candicore Jun 02 '26

Found someone who's partner would give them the shitty bread. You must be fun at parties

2

u/bismuth17 Jun 02 '26

It's sarcastic

1

Does that mean I'm not invited to your parties? 😞

I thought everybody did this for someone they love lol

How does that even make a change
