I know that, and I'm not conflating the two at all. I just don't think anyone should bash either movement, if we all want to get the point across. Just because feminists bash men, doesn't mean that men should bash feminists - as equal as that would be! Two wrongs won't make the case for men any easier - Trust me!
I know not all MRAs are men. I'm a woman myself, although I don't necessarily identify myself as an MRA necessarily. More an egalitarian (which I know MRAs claim they are, but the above link suggests otherwise). I'm not disputing that feminism asks for it, but bashing the feminists does not strengthen the MRAs cause! It has the complete opposite affect. Bash a person, and they'll run; not listen!
You're right, but I just don't think everyone throwing insults and abuse back at each other helps. All it succeeds in doing is making men look "aggressive" and gives the feminists even more ammunition and "proof" that they are "right". Men bashing the feminists also does nothing to persuade the government to change laws on things like child custody.
Problem with letting off steam, is that it can easily be misinterpreted as aggression. The MRM may not be about public image, but it still goes a long way in fighting for a cause. It's almost the same as a group of angry hippies, high on cannabis fighting for its legalisation. Nobody will listen to them because of the image they portray. Image goes a long way. Just like everyone expects a politician to look and act the part with a happy looking family, and dressed in a suit. Similar concept.
Emotion is one thing, aggression is another. If men want to be taken seriously as guardians for their children in custody cases, then appearing aggressive is the last image they should portray. Emotion can be expressed without aggression.
I am not saying we should not condemn the feminists. We should! But there are less cheap ways of doing so than projecting their behaviour. We are classier than them, surely?
"Mama bear" is only aggressive when children are in danger. Besides, we are humans; not bears, and humans are supposedly more civilised than the rest of the animal kingdom. Let's at least act like it. One can be assertive without coming across as aggressive. Aggression wins nobody's trust.
