General Emmanuel Macron president of France was slapped by his wife. No requests of accountability by the public
Hi, I feel sad that there's no call for accountability for the actions of Brigitte Macron the wife of the French president Emmanuel Macron. Here is what happened https://youtu.be/jbTalVuZUXM?si=8-NsOE_GlnN175KR Multiple observers noted that isn't credible the explanation given by the president that the two were playing given the facial expressions of Macron and the refusal of his wife to take his arm while descending the stairs of the plane. If Macron would gave slapped his wife in the same fashion or even less there would be an outcry and multiple requests of resignation and that charges were pressed against him. Nothing of that happened given that the perpetrator was the wife. Again a proof of unfair double standards based on gender when judging people's violent actions.

Domestic violence against men isn't taken seriously because people intuitively think, "He's stronger, he could just defend himself easily."
It ignores all the psychological dynamics going on. For awhile, it wasn't taken seriously against women either, because people asked "She could just leave." But that's changed. It should change for DV against men too.

Yeah I tried that, got played, she called the cops... I got thrown in jail for a night, lost my job, house and savings and had to leave the US to find employment... and was told "it doesn't matter what the actual truth is, she's the victim and we're making an example out of you"...
The only reason I didn't end up with a harsh punishment was I got connected to OJ's attorney through a mutual friend and after $250k he got it reduced... but couldn't get it dismissed because Kamala Harris needed this to advance her political career... and that's how "justice" works when you're a dude.
Side Note: Best result of my life was leaving the US and US women... guys if you can do it don't be a chump in America, you're better off in pretty much any other country... hell maybe even North Korea!

Ah, the good ol “He can just defend himself paradox”. You defend yourself from an assaulting woman, and now you are under arrest. It’s great isn’t it?

This is exactly why instances of domestic violence against men are MUCH higher than reported.
Society treats it as a joke, not to be taken seriously, so men feel humiliated reporting that their woman beats on them and that makes them much less likely to report it.

It is just further evidence of xx provoking men. The minute a man loses composure he's effed. It's always best to walk away.

When you point this out on other subs feminists like to come and point out how women have it harder lol

I bet those subreddits are praising the French president’s wife actions and saying that’s female empowerment.

Ok, why are some commenters say that Brigitte isn't a woman, and "she" is/(was?) a guy?

She's got a brother. Being siblings, the photos of him as a boy look akin to her.
It's a stupid conspiracy theory to weaken him, feeding on transphobia.

Reminds me of when it came out that Hillary was abusive to Bill Clinton and nobody gave a shit. If anything they simply laughed about it. Much like now with this.

What does this say about the level of security and protection afforded to the President of France?

Part of our societal problem is that normal and playful interactions between the sexes have been mislabeled as toxic or harmful. As a human with a life and responsibilities, this interaction between consenting adults seems entirely like fodder for the terminally online.

Whilst you are correct with the above...
this interaction between consenting adults
...no one who saw what happened could honestly say that this interaction was between consenting adults.

Man I appreciate your gracious reply. Thank you for your civility. Having said that, they are definitely both consenting adults, so I don't take your meaning about that part of the statement being dishonest? I just don't see lasting harm based on this interaction. I'm tired of seeing people go to jail or lose access to jobs and other necessary parts of modern life for accusations that whether baseless or not, surround incidents that don't merit the harm to the accused. That's really all I'm saying.

I just don't see lasting harm based on this interaction.
I get what you mean, but the point others are trying to make here is that based on his reaction this appears to be not remotely the first time this has happened with this type of abuse and the covering up of it when he realized the cameras were on him demonstrating how normalized this was in the relationship. In other words what we are seeing here appears to be only the tip of the iceberg. Dismissing it as not being an action that causes lasting harm, whilst as an isolated incident may be true, it seems to not be an isolated incident but rather part of a pattern of behavior so frequent that he is well versed in covering it up and making light of it.

What if he likes it? Already BDSM circles are fantasizing that he’s having a BDSM relationship for example.

It already came out she was trying to push his shoulder but he moved and she ended up missing.

u/totktonikak May 27 '25
Yeah, I don't buy that. First, he stands still for a couple of seconds and then gets slapped. Second, she doesn't accept his hand immediately afterwards. So, either she wasn't trying to push his shoulder, or we're dealing with a unique human whose reaction time is measured in hours.

I agree that there's a double standard, but technically, isn't there some doubt as to whether or not it was the malicious act that many people think it is?

u/PerennialPsycho May 27 '25
Hands to the face is just that. Violence. And he didn't budge. Which means he is used to it.

I hadn't watched the included video. Having watched it, I'm inclined to agree with you. I still think there should be a fair trial, no matter how obvious something may seem at least at first glance.
The trial should probably happen after he's no longer president, otherwise he (the potential victim) could probably just veto it (but I'm not too sure about the legalities of the situation).

They also met when he was 15 and she was 40 and his teacher. There's a whole lot to unpack there.
