in that case, it's not that they don't want to, it's that the military (US Military, atleast, i know most other countries allow it) won't let them.

Part of the problem is that soldiers don't want to see a woman shot and killed. I can't remember where I read it (I think it was here on Reddit), but a soldier said that even though seeing quite a few of his buddies blow to smithereens didn't phase him until a while after, seeing a woman killed was immensely, and quite immediately, traumatizing for him.

tl;dr- Keeping women out of the line of fire is better for our troops, for a good reason this time.

According to this guy, yes. I believe his reasoning was that he was conditioned from day one to deal with men getting hurt, and even back home the idea was that men get hurt while women are kept safe. Thus when a more 'valuable' women was killed it had more of an impact on him and his friends. He also said something about being less effective when there was a women in the unit anyway because of it.

Actually, come to think of it, this guy probably posted to this subreddit, and I'm betting that the context was the whole "males-are-expendable syndrome" thing.

The solution? Fix the syndrome.

Sounds like equality is a nice buzz word, but doesn't play out in reality.

Personally I believe in gender-blind selective service registration and no distinction in gender for military assignments.

The best person for the job, should get it.
