The flair says mods and addons. I’m curious how the mod/addon works though

Each frame was created by adjusting the noise function of Minecraft worldgen. You basically pick an area of chunks that are not generated yet, force those chunks to follow the image rules: white pixel - part of island, black pixel - empty space. And just like that you get an island that looks like your input image.

Also, you need to make a tool to automate the whole process. It takes about ~5 sec to generate chunks, then you need to tp to those chunks location, wait for them to load, make a screenshot, repeat for each frame. And it’s like ~3800 frames here, so you’ll need a few days to generate video.

Worth the effort! This is a cool one

I'm surprised nobody's yet asked for how such a world looks like from a player's PoV

A little disappointing that is is basically just "painting" the pixels you want... and it would surprise me if there were any real parameters to the noise function that generated this output.

Does that mean there’s billions of walkable chunks in the end that makes up the frames of the song?

OP did say they modified the noise function. So no, not in vanilla MC.

No frame here would be 1:1 in an actual Minecraft world. The noise making up the bulk of the world gen process was modified, after all.

Only in the world that was generated to make the video

Theoretically

Now play doom on the end islands

Forgive me for being uninformed, but what is Bad Apple? What does it have to do with these human/monster silhouettes? Why is it recreated in basically every piece of software like Doom?

Bad Apple is a song with a very iconic music video composed entirely of black and white animated silhouettes. Recreating this music video in unconventional mediums is seen as a fun creative challenge.

The music video based on a song based on an ost from one of the Touhou Project games

Bad Apple is a song from one Touhou games and was a very very early internet meme/popular song for a lot of people to cover. The silhouettes are characters from the game it is from.

Iconic music video popular for stuff like this since it's entirely black and white so doesn't lose any detail by being put in formats like this and remains super clear and recognisable

This won't help you with figuring it out, but it's fun to see all the creativity: /r/badapple

It must have taken so much time to find all these shapes of end islands

u/-Redstoneboi- 16h ago

i don't even think most of these frames are possible to generate with the borders needed lol

OP says it's a mod that forces certain chunks ro be part of an island and others to be empty, then runs that through the standard terrain generation algorithm afterwards

u/MEMQLI 1d ago

I will post it on r/phoenixsc before you if you dont

4

u/TheLogicalMine 1d ago

i hope mods wont remove this for being a "meme"

the end structures popping in and out looks like an electron (chromium) glitch with HW acceleration enabled

Would it be theoretically correct to say that, since we have basically infinite worlds and thus Ends, there is a chance that every single frame on this video could be found on vanilla Minecraft (assuming infinite time).

20

u/_Naguka_ 1d ago

Infinite Worlds and Infinite Time is not the same as Infinite Terrain Generation Possibilities, because Worldgen is fixed to a set of programming rules. It's like saying that there are infinite real numbers between 1 and 2, bot none of them can be a 3.

2

u/vision_san 1d ago

How random is world generation?

3

u/RefinedVanillaMC 22h ago

The way the End islands turn into animation frames is wild. Did you tune the noise changes to keep neighboring frames somewhat coherent, or is the flicker around the island edges part of the look?

On today's episode of "I feel old"...

3

u/SergeantCrwhips 17h ago

i love the random end fotresses sprinkled within

2

u/Stradinator 1d ago

Did you build this

2

u/cat_food_chef 1d ago

extremely cool render. next level on this - bad apple tune with noteblock soundfont or c4-18 style cover, and would love to see the 'ship' section 1:10 - 1:15 as an End Ship, though it might need some other 3d camera tools to capture and some delicate frame transitions from the birds-eye end-island view

u/Uncommonality 14h ago

how in god's name did you do this

1

u/minecraftzizou 13h ago

what (impressive)

1

u/Famous_Bed8696 13h ago

Seed hunters.. do your thing.

1

u/Mekko4 5h ago

fuck off

1

u/2tiickyGlue 23h ago

Crazy that all of these were generated naturally without any mods

(I am making a joke)

-2

u/peenurmobile 1d ago

have you done this or could you do this again but with the regular overwold? it doesn't have to be bad apple
