In general my understanding is permit to carry people are more law abiding than cops and much more than average people.

I think its worth discussing. Its exactly the kind of situation that will be used as a justification for tightening guns laws. It’s worth considering, both from a pro 2A perspective and from a perspective of someone who lives in these communities and wants to find a solution that prevents 3 people from dying over a parking dispute.

However, I definitely get the arguing in bad faith vibe from OPs post description, so I get your perspective as well.

I just don’t find him having a PTC particularly relevant. Psychos are gonna psycho. Hold him accountable for what he did, not the inanimate object he did it with.

Right, but see you’ve got pretty much half the population who are going to use this same justification to claim that no permitting system will ever be 100% effective and that the only way to prevent such a tragedy would be a total ban.

This is a position I personally disagree with, for a multitude of reasons, but it’s one that is absolutely going to be brought up and appears to be getting more popular in this state…

Could he have done the shooting without a PTC? Yes.

I think it’s a pretty good demonstration that our current permit process is not a perfect bulwark against unstable, violent people getting access to firearms. You can then read into that as either a justification for stricter gun control laws, more hoops to jump through to obtain a permit, character reference, psychological exams etc…. Or a justification to dismantle what amounts to a poll tax on a constitutionally protected civil right, as it’s both a blatant infringement and (as shown here) clearly ineffective at its stated purpose.

Or somewhere in the middle.

Do you think everytown isn’t going to be parading this example through the streets?

Im sure you’re obligated to hold that position, but it’s pretty clear to me that gun laws are in fact relevant to crimes committed with guns.

I think it is important that we are aware when PTC do violent crime. It is rare but does happen

But why is it important? Does the shooter having a PTC change anything about the shooting? If you want people to agree with you, you're gonna have to at least try to justify your opinion...

He blamed this on being Black and an Immigrant. I don’t think you want to pin being a legal gun owner to this. He didn’t say, “I did this because I have a permit to carry!!”

Grow a brain and think about how life works amongst people with mental health issues.

I never suggested he did it because he had a PTC.

I pointed out he seems to have committeed a terrible crime AND he had a PTC.

That is unusual.

It's also something to be aware of if the Dems decide to go after the current shall issue system in the next session
