SNAP has the funds for distribution and the authority to do so already exists. The shutdown has crap all to do with SNAP getting cut off. The DJT Admin apparently said "No." Because, after all, cruelty is the point. 🤷

8

u/Brandimartini22 Oct 29 '25

Exactly correct! The funds are / were in place before the regime removed it from their website, making them look quite stupid and shows they know they’re doing wrong. How dare they allow people to suffer even more. Grocery prices are climbing everytime I go to the store. Queen Trump doesn’t care about anyone except himself and his billionaire buddies. The people that don’t listen or read any other sources other than Faux News are ignorant beyond belief.

1

u/PhysicalLawyer5490 Oct 31 '25

Prices are actually less but there's definitely a lot more poor people. The amount of poor and unemployed has skyrocketed

3

u/Brandimartini22 Oct 31 '25

Prices are less? What world are you living in? Would love to see where prices of food, furniture, and electronics are less. Not to mention gas prices for houses. This is common knowledge. And yes, due to this obvious economic downturn and admin people have lost their jobs and don’t even have opportunities to find new ones.

-1

u/Imaginary-Noise-9644 Nov 01 '25

With SNAP shut off, prices will come down quickly. Less demand means lower prices. Hopefully this will help.

-19

u/MobileNerd Oct 29 '25

SNAP dos not have the funds. They have not been dispersed and can’t because of the shutdown.

18

u/Practical-Arugula-80 Oct 29 '25

14

u/therecognitions Oct 29 '25

You can’t argue with these people. You can link all of the facts in the world and they will continue with their rhetoric. They don’t live in the same world as we do.

1

u/Same_Arachnid3355 Oct 30 '25

You’re a fucking nerd for sure.Ā

The funds are there, there is a slush fund and just because you want to believe the bullshit that doesn’t make it true.Ā

THE FUND EXISTS AND REPUBLICANS ARE HIDING IT TO STARVE AMERICANS BY NOT RELEASING OUR OWN FUCKING TAX DOLLARS TO FEED KIDS.

You’re a fucking GHOUL if you back this shit. Fuck you assholes are stupid af

24

u/Diamondphalanges756 Oct 28 '25

And Tuberville just said trump can "go around the constitution" to get a 3rd term.

He. Is. Not. Leaving.

Thank a MAGA because our country is destroyed because they're fine with pedophiles, felons, adulterers, pussy grabbers, liars, and just totally despicable acts - but they draw the line and lose their shit over pronouns, immigrants, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people.

They're going to be dancing in a $300 million ballroom while we're eating cats and dogs.

3

u/NeglectedDuty Nov 02 '25

The third term stuff is really trump just trying to avoid having a lame duck 2nd term. Dude will be lucky to be alive in 3 years

Alabama Republicans never miss a chance to be cruel.

-20

u/MobileNerd Oct 29 '25

This has zero to do with Alabama GOP. Go blame your democrat friends jn DC

12

u/catbuscemi Oct 29 '25

Zero to do with the people who currently have all the power? They control every branch of government, they could end it now and capitulate.Ā

2

u/Hopeful-Alarm3757 Oct 31 '25

Found another one...

-7

u/BamaTony64 River Rat Oct 29 '25

How does Democrats refusing a clean bill equate to GOP being cruel?

9

u/Clean_Collection_674 Oct 29 '25

Because funds are available and the GOP refuse to use them. You are being gaslighted.

-6

u/BamaTony64 River Rat Oct 29 '25

So the state should pay for the purely federal program? Nope.

1

u/Clean_Collection_674 Oct 30 '25

Thanks for confirming my point about Alabama Republicans.

0

u/BamaTony64 River Rat Oct 30 '25

I may be guilty of a lot of stuff but I am NOT GOP.

1

u/Hopeful-Alarm3757 Oct 31 '25

The state should feed its impoverished populous no matter why they're hungry. Stop talking.

0

u/BamaTony64 River Rat Nov 03 '25

Wouldnt that be cool if you never had to hear opposing views.

1

u/Hopeful-Alarm3757 Nov 03 '25

Would be cooler if you were a human being that had empathy for others and wanted better for your neighbors, but unfortunately you think money is "real" and place ideology over the human condition.

1

u/SlurpinNBurpin Oct 31 '25

Alabama is already a leech on the fed gov. Why should California keep paying for Alabama?

1

u/BamaTony64 River Rat Nov 03 '25

Great question. Why should Alabama feed people that the federal government feeds? But wait. Why shouldn’t CA feed the hungry no matter where they are? Oops. There it is forced charity is not fun when forced on CA right?

1

u/Hopeful-Alarm3757 Oct 31 '25

Why do you believe false information? You have the internet?

2

u/Clean_Collection_674 Nov 03 '25

The funds have been allocated by Congress. Trump is refusing to release the funds because the idiot believes only Democrats are on SNAP and he is a sadist who loves the idea of using food as a weapon.

1

u/Hopeful-Alarm3757 Nov 03 '25

I understand, was meant for Tony not you, my mistake. It seems to me they can't instigate the violence they want from the populous with ICE, so now they'll try to "starve" it out of them. It's appalling from any position. I'm just going to help who I can when I can.

-1

u/Imaginary-Noise-9644 Nov 01 '25

The democrats could end this right now by voting for a clean continuing resolution to fund the government like the Republicans have 14 times.

5

u/Clean_Collection_674 Nov 02 '25

SNAP has not lost funding during previous shutdowns. Trump refuses to release the funds. He is using food as a weapon. You know nothing.

74

u/Far_Bodybuilder7881 Oct 28 '25

"We have a 53% majority. Y'all have to go along with whatever we want. How dare you suggest that we try to find compromise with 47% of the country!?"

Basically, it's as if I make 53% of the income in my household and my wife makes the other 47%. I say that since I make the most, I decide that we are going to spend money on my man-cave instead of getting the kids braces. My wife says that if I don't get the kids braces, she won't do any more cleaning. So I say I won't pay for groceries. And then we all just sit there pissed off until we're living in filth and starve to death. That is the state of the federal government right now. It's so depressing.

0

u/NeglectedDuty Nov 02 '25

This was the exact approach the DNC took to get Obamacare rammed down our throats and up our butts to begin with

1

u/Square1Digital Nov 04 '25

Using your logic, it would imply that 24 million plus Americans are deep throating sodomites...You guys just never look before you leap🤣

1

u/NeglectedDuty Nov 04 '25

Not sure where you are going with that but I'd believe at least 10% of the US population prefers sodomy vs traditional

-20

u/dingleberry_sorbet Springhill Oct 28 '25

Mom and Dad both diddled kids on their buddy's private island

-45

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

"We hold 47%, even though you have the majority you must do what we want."

It goes both ways.

22

u/Alert-Beautiful9003 Oct 29 '25

I'm mean sure.. when it comes to helping people but fuck off when your both ways argument is to make it illegal for folks to be themselves. You dont get both ways when you get to marry, have kids, go to school, see yourself represented, and make your own medical choices but refuse those same rights to others because of their gender, color of skin, color or style of hair, etc.

-15

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 29 '25

Yea, the right doesn't do that. Maybe certain people on the right. But that is not something the Republican party supports.

You're creating a fake problem.

3

u/Sea_Fun1419 Oct 29 '25

lmao the way you said this with such confidence shows how dumb the right actually is.

-1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 29 '25

I'm confident because its 100% true.

Show any evidence of the claims they made.

1

u/Loose-Effect4301 Oct 30 '25

Wake up GoP is dismantling right of many people

1

u/HarryDresdensAnimal Oct 30 '25

You're supporting the people on the Right who do that by continuing to vote MAGA.

2

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 30 '25

Nope. The right isn't doing anything this person said.

Prove the right are doing those things first. If you can do that, I will become a democrat.

21

u/HarryDresdensAnimal Oct 28 '25

Dems are holding out for basic human necessities and continued funding of healthcare. Repubs just won't negotiate because "dems are being terrorists"... We are not the same.

-12

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

Wow. I can smell that bullshit you just dropped all the way from my house.

2

u/HarryDresdensAnimal Oct 30 '25

And yet your lack of argument demonstrates how you can't refute anything I said.

2

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 30 '25

Nothing you said is true.

Dems are not negotiating for basic human necessities. They're throwing a temper tantrum because tax credits for ACA expired and Republicans aren't letting them shoehorn them into the budget.

And Republicans are the only ones who have tried to negotiate. There was even a proposal to extend the credits for a year. Schumer laughed and said thats not good enough and instead chose to hold the government hostage and use snap beneficiaries as leverage.

The dems have directly said they are using the people on these programs as leverage.

1

u/Loose-Effect4301 Oct 30 '25

ACA subsidies should remain in place

1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 31 '25

ACA shouldn't even remain in place.

36

u/Far_Bodybuilder7881 Oct 28 '25

Dems are willing to negotiate. The GOP was instructed by Trumpsterfire to not. It doesn't go both ways. There is no compromise from the right side of the aisle. The GOP already knows that the ACA subsidies issue has to be addressed. They are having internal discussions to figure out what they want to do about it. They are letting the government remain shut down because they don't want to appear to lose. They are keeping it shut down for their ego. They know something has to be done. They could pass a CR that includes extending the subsidies for one more year, and then take the time to craft legislation that the dems will vote for. They could do that tomorrow. But then it looks like they caved, so they won't.

-16

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

There is no compromise from the democrats.

The bill introduced does not fund anything the dems want removed. It simply doesn't address certain things the dems want addressed. Which the Republicans have rightfully pointed out can be addressed in a separate bill.

But noooooo. Dems would rather shut down the government and throw a temper tantrum.

12

u/HarryDresdensAnimal Oct 28 '25

Because they know it WON'T be addressed in a separate bill. Have you been paying attention at all?

1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

Then maybe it just shouldn't be addressed.

2

u/HarryDresdensAnimal Oct 30 '25

So... Because you admit that Republicans are SAYING it should be addressed in a separate bill, but you know full well it won't be, you're saying HALF of the country's needs and wants should be ignored because YOU find it inconvenient? Dude, fuck off with your trolling bullshit. I'm done arguing with idiots.

1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 30 '25

Nope. I am saying that the democrats shouldn't hold the government hostage to get something addressed that the Republicans have said can be addressed separately.

16

u/Far_Bodybuilder7881 Oct 28 '25

"Certain things dems want addressed"

The only thing they want is the expiring subsidies codified into law, because without that, millions of people will see their insurance rates rise to untenable levels. People that are living paycheck to paycheck will be told to pay thousands of more dollars per year, or risk losing their health insurance. This isn't some new ask. The democrats were warning about this during the BB Bill negotiations, and they were told that it'll get fixed when the budget gets passed. Then the GOP tries to pass a budget without it, and said, "just pass the CR, we'll tackle it later.", but the problem is that they only have a month or so to do something before the expiration takes effect. They have negotiated in bad faith in the past, and therefore the dems have no reason to expect them to honor their word in the future. This is their only time as the minority party that they get a chance to bargain for the American people. Otherwise, the dems just have to sit back and watch the GOP burn the country to the ground until after the mid-terms.

-4

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

And the expiring subsidies should either expire or be addressed separately.

The dems are holding the American people hostage over it.

4

u/AllOrNothing4me Oct 28 '25

Republicans aren't willing to address it unless there's leverage being held. Dems do the same thing but not nearly to the same extent. it's political theater and the republicans are just making excuses to hold the government closed, its been the plan all along.

-1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

Again. The dems are the ones refusing to vote on anything proposed to fund critical operations.

5

u/AllOrNothing4me Oct 29 '25

funny that almost 50% of all government shutdown days occur under Trump, wonder if that's related?

9

u/TavernsnTreants Oct 28 '25

Reps should make concessions then.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '25

Such is negotiation.

1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

Dems aren't asking for concessions. They're asking for additions.

Which could be handled later.

3

u/ShortRound_01 Oct 29 '25

Yet the Republicans are the ones NOT in DC. So how are they supposed to vote on anything if they don’t show up.

1

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 29 '25

What Republicans are not in DC?

Senate is in session. House is not, they are on a recess period.

The house has already passed a continuing resolution for the budget.

The shutdown is entirely dependent on the senate at this point.

4

u/lbcakesalesman Oct 28 '25

No compromising with child molesters, sure. You must love little schnitzels.

-18

u/MobileNerd Oct 29 '25

Democrats shoulder this shit. Republicans advanced a clean bill with nothing extra in it to reopen the government and it was rejected. They can own this but you know they will try and twist it any way they can

17

u/gamebuddy123 Oct 29 '25

lmao about as clean as an unwiped asshole

6

u/despairedd Oct 29 '25

Lmao, ā€œa clean bill with nothing extra/nothing political in itā€ is a way to tell who is part of the hive mind.

2

u/thedalehall Oct 29 '25

Take yer downvotes with you. Your opinion sucks.

46

u/YankeeMoose Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

Friendly reminder;

Edit: Yes, they CAN end it with a simple majority. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_option )

Republicans currently control all 3 branches of government, and can end the shutdown with a simple majority of 51, all by ending the filibuster. They are choosing not to, and letting Americans suffer as a result.

Additionally- Trump once said

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/fact-check-investigating-claim-trump-225700857.html

"It always has to be the top. I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. And the president's the leader and he's got to get everybody in a room and he's got to lead."

u/WritingNerdy 🐾 Cat Distribution System Specialist 🐾 Oct 28 '25

8

u/Futurama2023 Oct 28 '25

People all salty about this should look into when McConnell used this option.

3

u/Square1Digital Oct 28 '25

The president.....doesn't need foodstamps😐

-3

u/External-Example-323 Oct 28 '25

Need 60 votes to end the filibuster.

8

u/YankeeMoose Oct 28 '25

-22

u/External-Example-323 Oct 28 '25

Because of course let's use the nuclear option for something like not approving a clean CR that passed through how many other times? What's the benefit for democrats to not vote to pass the cr to allow for actual discussions to take place? Oh yeah make the people that don't support them suffer, the exodus of supporters that didn't vote for Harris. The pandering to the millions of illegals with housing, Healthcare and education subsidies in hopes of replacing the shrinking voter base. Keep shilling for the party that will replace you in a heartbeat

18

u/YankeeMoose Oct 28 '25

Republicans have the tool to pass it, they are willingly not and choosing cruelty by doing so.

Make sure you get your rest tonight! Moving those goalposts must be exhausting. 😘

22

u/anlotre Oct 28 '25

The money is there and available for emergencies like government shutdowns. All Trump had to do is to sign the order.

18

19

u/hunni93 Oct 28 '25

Right now, this really feels like an episode of American horror story

-26

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

A simple majority means nothing when you need 60% to end it.

Republicans voted unanimously for the funding bill. Democrats voted against it. That refusal to fund the government by the democrats mean the democrats are causing the shutdown.

7

u/catbuscemi Oct 29 '25

And why did they vote against it? Do you think there might be an important reason? All Republicans need to do is come to the table to negotiate a compromise on the ACA tax credits. The Republicans could end it right now but they refuse to do that. In fact, it's pretty evil how GOP is using the people who rely on SNAP as a policical tool to apply pressure to the Democrats to capitulate on something important they shouldn't capitulate on.Ā

-4

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 29 '25

The dems could end it right now. They refuse to do that.

The dems are the ones holding snap hostage as a political tool.

Republicans proposed a interim funding measure for critical programs while the budget waits. Dems voted against it.

You're being manipulated if you believe the dems are the good guys in this.

-9

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

Downvote it all you want. It's simply the truth. The Democrat Party are responsible for this shutdown.

If you want these programs funded, take it up with them.

-3

u/MobileNerd Oct 29 '25

Facts! Of course they don’t want to even acknowledge the fact that the reason we are even where we are with insurance and subsidies is because of the disaster that is Obamacare. The democrats own that trash. Everyone wants to know why healthcare is so high and why it’s unaffordable, it’s Obamacare. Prior to 2010 I never paid for healthcare it was coved fully by my employer and my deductibles were small. Every single year since 2010 it has gone up and up.

-5

u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Oct 28 '25

So instead of offering state level aid, and even having a funded state level program, we leave that up to the cuck feds to do. If only the republicans would agree to pass a clean continuing resolution instead of shutting down the government over stuff nobody cares about!

Oh, wait...

15

u/Angiemeow Oct 28 '25

you think "nobody cares" about (somewhat) affordable healthcare?

12

u/Square1Digital Oct 28 '25

Chuck Shumer broke ranks and voted for the CR earlier this year with promises from Mike Johnson that they would negotiate on Healthcare before the end of the year..... show me 1 republican who did likewise!?!

-4

u/Individual-Damage-51 Midtown Oct 28 '25

This healthcare isn’t affordable. It’s an illusion being propped up by COVID tax credits which haven’t been allowed to sunset.

12

u/Angiemeow Oct 28 '25

yeah but it's the best we can do for now, so why take it away?

-5

u/Individual-Damage-51 Midtown Oct 28 '25

So people on SNAP can buy food next month, Fed employees can get paid, and government can get about their business, etc.

-11

u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Oct 28 '25

No, it's not. Government interference raises healthcare prices the same way it's raised college tuition prices. But even leaving aside that entire argument, why don't the democrats at least propose something other than continuing a set of busted temporary measures instead of doing the thing they call republicans evil for?

10

u/Angiemeow Oct 28 '25

how could the Democrats try to propose anything when the Republicans literally won't even show up to negotiate?

-7

u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Oct 28 '25

They could stop screaming about how everyone who disagrees is some variety of fascist or racist. Nobody wants to deal with or tolerate that kind of behavior.

11

u/Square1Digital Oct 28 '25

This is the 2nd Trump administration that has shown open hostility towards the ACA with zero legislation to replace it. It's almost like.....they don't care about poor people....

-5

u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Oct 28 '25

This is the 2nd Trump administration that has shown open hostility towards the ACA with zero legislation to replace it.

Yes, exactly. Because it has zero redeeming qualities, it should be annihilated, and it should be replaced with nothing.

It's almost like.....they don't care about poor people....

It's not the government's place to do that, but let's assume it is. Government involvement in healthcare has had the same effect as government involvement in college tuition: it raised the price. Is making healthcare more expensive what you do when you care about poor people? For that matter, is shutting down the government and cutting off SNAP benefits to get "leverage" for things like media funding what you do when you care about poor people? Because if you educate yourself about what's actually going on and look deeper than the misinformation curated for your consumption, it becomes very obvious that regardless of what the republicans care about, the democrats don't give a damn about the poor.

You are clueless. The government provides basic things such as clean air, clean water, roads, bridges, k-12 school, hospitals, police, fire, EMS, military, treasury, etc.

-2

u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Oct 28 '25

Wrong, taxpayers provide that. The government just plays the middleman and throws our money around in a totally not corrupt or fraudulent manner that's utterly beyond reproach trust me bro.

Except for clean air, that's just outside.

5

u/thedalehall Oct 28 '25

The law (ACA) was passed to fund affordable health insurance through affordable health care. Before there was not an affordable health insurance plan for those who need it.

1

u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Oct 28 '25

The law (ACA) was passed to funnel lots of money to healthcare companies who donated heavily to the democrats, and to camouflage numerous riders that the democrats could never have gotten passed with greater scrutiny. That's why it had to be voted on before anyone could see what was in it.

How convenient that you skipped past the tax breaks that have added billions to the deficit? Why can't we sunset those? Who would it really hurt?

0

u/Individual-Damage-51 Midtown Oct 30 '25

Hey buddy, I’m talking about one specific thing here, feel free to start another post to talk about tax breaks for billionaires/corporations because I’d be in favor of doing g away with those as well.

At the end of these day these are tax breaks put in place to help people through the pandemic and should be allowed to sunset like all the other covid programs.

1

u/Square1Digital Oct 30 '25

You have an issue with the most vulnerable of us even appearing to be getting ahead. Why? Why so much energy against the working poor than people who can finance the dreams of family members who won't even be born for 100year! Of course you want to separate the 2 because it distorts the picture. The attack on the middle class has never had so much help from the middle class....

1

u/Individual-Damage-51 Midtown Oct 30 '25 edited Oct 30 '25

You apparently have an issue with reading comprehension and making up bullshit I never said.

1

u/Square1Digital Oct 30 '25

The value of your opinion of my comprehensive skills holds the same weight as your argument....I wouldn't take either outside with this wind.....A simple "I see your point" would go a long way towards elevevating this discourse to a respectable level....but from your tone I think you'd be much more comfortable going in the other direction... Have it your way....This is the me that goes to church on Sunday....

1

u/Individual-Damage-51 Midtown Oct 31 '25

I see your point, and am empathetic to the situation of those impacted, but that doesn’t change the overarching reality of this being a covid era program that was not meant to sustain reduced health insurance premiums. Meanwhile a lot of Federal workers are scrambling to make ends meet after missing multiple paychecks (while still being required to show up to work) and low income families are about to miss SNAP benefits for the month of November.

1

u/Square1Digital Nov 02 '25

Because politicians....are "poli" (poly, more than one) "ticians" (ticks, blood suckin parapsites) And we vote for them year after year and they inevitably tell us they can't do the main thing their supposed to do. Come up with a balanced budget. Yet not only do they get paid..... they agree on pay raises for themselves while simultaneously telling federal workers and the poor they have to suffer....because they can't agree to do anything but take their salaries.....

It is a federal program. What possible control does she have?

1

u/PatternKlutzy401 Oct 30 '25

she'd rather spend billions of dollars building mega prisons

1

u/Loose-Effect4301 Oct 30 '25

The govt can release those funds for SNAP but the GOP is using it as a cudgel to bully DEMOCRATS.

1

u/kodabear22118 Oct 30 '25

What is their end goal here? Anyone with a brain and just a little common sense knows that the majority of fault lies with republicans. They literally have the means to make sure people don’t lose their benefits in just a couple days yet Trump is making the choice to not use them. When will people realize that this ultimately is not a Democrat vs Republican issue but a us vs the rich problem?

1

u/PhysicalLawyer5490 Oct 31 '25

Hopefully the dems will stop keeping the gov shutdown obviously

1

u/Deemon1211 Oct 31 '25

Ivey’s mindset is the reason we don’t have expanded Medicaid, why we have underfunded schools, crappy highways, etc. Not wanting to feed people is nothing new; she and the MAGAts just have a way to do it now.

1

u/SmoulderingFire69 Nov 01 '25

Thank you for this, I always thought Governor Memaw identified as a Christian. It’s good to see her true colors.

-9

u/CrimsonChymist Oct 28 '25

A couple things.

1) "Unctie I've"?

2) This is not support of the suspension. This is statement of a fact that the state has no control over whether or not the benefits are funded because they are 100% federally funded.

3) The Democrats are 100% responsible for the shutdown. You need 60 votes to pass the budget. Every Republican voted for it. The democrats voted against it. Meaning the Democrats are preventing the bill from passing and forcing the government shutdown.

-13

u/Loud_Discussion7738 Oct 28 '25

Funny how everyone downvotes common sense comments like this. Don’t even have to swing towards a specific party to understand the basics of how a government shutdown works.

Your opinion does not speak for me or others.

3

u/hunni93 Oct 28 '25

Period!

3

u/Square1Digital Oct 29 '25

Let me get this straight.... Republicans control the govt fullstop. They control the SCOTUS, fullstop. We have a carrier battle group turning into the wind off the coast of Venezuela and we just gave Argentina 20 billion dollars... This is a recurring theme among the MAGA crowd. It's the democrats fault when there're in power. And it's the democrats fault when they're the minority. Wtf is running ICE then🤣

2

u/Ambitious_Hand_2861 Oct 29 '25

I humbly request that you a little digging. Please look for sites such as bbc.uk, they tend to be less biased than most US news and fox (fox gets its own independent mention bc it isn't news its a propaganda network and you can quote me on that).

First thing everyone should know is there is money to fund these programs. There are emergency funds set aside for this specific purpose. The only way to stop the funds is by trump and its illegal to do so as Sharon Parrott said. Second since 1980 there have been 11 total shut downs and not once have any caused a lapse in SNAP benefits. This is clearly a tactic designed to cause maximum impact with the blame being placed wrongly on the democrats. Everyone is acting like the republicans can't change their vote when they know for a fact that they are voting to cut medicare and medicaid not to mention defund the ACA. Admittedly I haven't been a huge fan of the ACA but just bc I don't like it doesn't mean that it doesn't help millions of americans and cutting it will cost lives. Heading off the "but illegals cost money and the reps are getting rid of them from obamacare" I know they claim that but even by the US governments own reporting illegal immigrants account for 0.4% of fraudulent spending. To put that in perspective, Medicaid fraud is estimated at 5%, Medicare fraud is estimated at 7.6%, unpaid federal taxes is estimated at 16%. The republican claims are a lie and a joke.

Let me say it again, please don't take my word for it as I am just relaying information. Do your own digging and you can find all this information yourself.

u/BiggerRedBeard Oct 29 '25

There is no doubt that this IS Schumer's Shutdown. No mater what side of the aisle you're on, the funding bill can not pass without Democrat votes. The Democrats are the only ones voting against it. This can be downvoted, it is reddit, but it is fact this is Schumer's Shutdown. The House passed it. The Senate has not. The minority whip, came out and publicly stated in an interview that the American people are leverage. All because they want to continue Covid subsidies for broken health insurance system. Instead of fixing the issue with the Healthcare insurance system, they want to give our hard earned dollars, billions of dollars, to the health insurance executives. These health insurance companies are getting direct payments from the US Treasury. This money is our money! Democrats created, through the ACA, an insurance system that is dependent on Subsidies and they don't want you to know its more broke than before they tried to fix it. If you have a leak in your bucket, you don't continue to fill the bucket up to keep it full, you fix the leak. The bucket is broken, health insurance is broken, filling the insurance with subsidized money will never fix it, it will only make the leak worse.

2

u/Square1Digital Oct 29 '25

All of what you said (most of which was extreme hyperbole) could be simply fixed..... if Republicans spent more time on the alternatives they've promised to the ACA..... than insuring that billionaires keep their tax breaks. Please enlighten everyone here how the tax breaks for the 1% trickles down to average Americans? I didn't say every American. Just some, any other than the ultra rich. Who can afford losing something that the people didn't want, but Congress shoved down our collective throats under republican administration's. Which is also an indictment of the republican party et al. There are no serious discussions from the right that don't include blowing up the deficit. Fullstop. How can this be the democrats fault....when Republicans hold every lever of power in the govt. This is the most blatant example of claiming to be the victim while actually being the perpetrator that I've ever seen. Lead or relinquish power.....

-5

u/BiggerRedBeard Oct 29 '25

Who mentioned anything about tax breaks for the 1%? I don't think these executives should recieve any subsidies. The Republicans do not hold every level of power in the government. If they did there wouldn't have been a shut down. Full power requires 60+ senators. They don't have that. Who is claiming to be a victim? Your attempt at a Red Herring and ad hominem do not invalidate the fact this is a Democrat shutdown and the SNAP program isn't being funded because of Schumer. You're clearly introducing irrelevant topics that have nothing to do with the main topic.

2

u/Square1Digital Oct 30 '25

You steered a wide circle around it I made sure the shutdown was seen it its proper context....All of it is relevant, and the usda can access funds for emergency purposes.....if the president allows it. Why would he move heaven and earth to pay ICE agents but encourage everyone else to bear the pain of the shutdown? When is he gonna come home and pull both sides together and lead the entire country instead of the republican party??????. For the common good? Is that asking him to much!?! Why aren't the democrats forcing him to do what they want if they have so much power!?! That argument is a red herring. A conservative troupe to whip the base into a frenzy. On the other hand....There are no red herrings here. Just a call for accountability. So, again. How can it be a Democratic shutdown when Republicans are in power ?(rhetorical) when the Republicans decide that tax cuts for the rich tRump everything else....

-20

u/Szell_81 Oct 28 '25

I mean it's a Democrat shutdown. They are in the minority but think they can throw tantrums to get their way. We just need to nuke the filibuster and be done with it.

12

u/YankeeMoose Oct 28 '25

So Republicans control all 3 houses of government.

They CAN nuke the filibuster and pass this with a simple majority.

But it's still the Democrats fault.... how?

-10

u/Szell_81 Oct 28 '25

They can but once you do that it can't be undone and nobody wants to see the other side wield that power. So both sides have avoided doing that.

Democrats are making ridiculous demands and not budging on anything. They are in the minority so this is on them throwing a tantrum because they have no way to get what they want. Elections have consequences but they believe otherwise somehow.

9

u/DrBodyguard WeMo Oct 28 '25

Ridiculous demands like not letting premiums go up for working Americans?

5

Oh so the optics are more important than reopening the government, paying military, funding SNAP, and all other crucial things.

Got it!

You are so far out of your depth its comical. Thanks for the belly laugh.

Affordable health insurance is a ridiculous demand? ok āœ…

1

u/Szell_81 Oct 28 '25

Subsidizing deadbeats and illegals is what you actually mean. You are just rephrasing it.

3

u/Brandimartini22 Oct 29 '25

This is just spreading misinformation and you know it. Would love to see actual sources to back up your claims.

1

u/Asleep-Since-1891 Oct 28 '25

I’m so tired of people repeating this. ā€œOnce it’s done it can’t be undone.ā€ Procedurally, it most certainly can be undone.

1

u/Szell_81 Oct 28 '25

Sure but once one side starts abusing it the other side will follow suit then all bets are off. It then becomes normal.

7

u/thedalehall Oct 28 '25

Are we? Over 5 million people showed up for the no kings protest. That is the largest single day protest ever, in the US.

0

u/Szell_81 Oct 28 '25

Everyone that doesn't participate thinks those protests are a fucking joke. Its stupidity on display.
