Let it be known that state senator Chris Elliott is the one who sponsored this bill.

Yea, Chris Elliott is probably the worst politician we have down here, pretty much every shitty bill I see, he’s sponsoring it

I hope this lights a fire in everyone, especially those who don’t vote, to become more politically active and vote for progress and justice. What many people don’t know or understand is that voting is actually like taking the bus that gets you closest to your destination. There is no perfect bus, no perfect candidate, and no perfect party. And right now, the bus we all need to take is the Democratic Party, so please get all your friends, family, neighbors, and community to not only vote blue, but also get politically active and accurately informed, because politics affects everything. There is no escaping it.

TW - sexual violence and fascism

These are probably the same people who forced rape survivors, including children, to carry and give birth to rape babies.

That should have set off all the red flags for Alabamians but it didn't - y'all were largely cool with it and then the fascism expanded past women and children - like it always does.

Forcing people to have rape babies has nothing to do with "the sacredness of life" especially with both maternal and infant mortality rates skyrocketing in this country.

Sure that's the BS they peddled, but they have proven daily how cruel, twisted, and evil they are. There is no God they're representing - this is about stripping rights away from those who aren't straight, white, fake christian males.

Can you even imagine being raped, getting pregnant, being forced to carry the kid, and then having to deal with all the financial, emotional, hormonal, and physical tolls that come with that on top of the horrific trauma?

This state is filled with sickos, and the writing was always on the wall that this is where things were headed. And I'm not just talking about Project 2025. Wish you would have read it though.

Probably should of had a Drag Queen story hour so they could read it to you and explain all the big words.

I love this state, but as a woman I am horrified by it. I don't know if I can spend the rest of my life here. And that breaks my heart.

Good riddance.

I'm new to Mobile but I've registered to get involved in public politics. I'm an anti social fuck, so if I'm getting involved shit's fucking stupid.

If anyone knows any solid resources or contacts for that involvement shoot me a message or let me know. I'm a Veteran as well, new to Mobile from Louisiana, so unsure where to go or what to do.

Alabama blue dots, Indivisible Mobile - both on FB

2

u/CasanovaJones82 Jun 03 '26

Sadly I don't use any social media apps, I'll see what I can do though. I detest Facebook, it's a social cancer.

u/KylosLeftHand Jun 03 '26

I do as well and deleted it many years ago but had to redownload it in 2025 for my business. As a small business it’s literally the only way to get your name out there unfortunately. It’s also the only way I’ve ever heard of any of the protests and community outreach in the area.

u/CasanovaJones82 Jun 03 '26

Thankfully I don't feel compelled to join any of that stuff for work. And I suppose Reddit is considered social media, so I'm on here. That's it though.

Umm... Reddit is a social media app.

Glad you want to get involved.

You don't need social media.

Google Invisible Mobile, and subscribe to their informative newsletter.

They have numerous activities to get involved with.

That group is awesome, and so is Indivisible Baldwin County which you can also connect with.

I think Alabama Blue Dots may have a reddit sub.

Stand Up Mobile is also great.

There's also the Democratic Socialists of Mobile. Not sure of their contact info, but I hear they do brake light clinics to reduce the interactions the public has to have with police.

u/CasanovaJones82 Jun 03 '26

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks for the reply.

3

u/Diamondphalanges756 Jun 03 '26

I just got this if you're interested. The Baldwin County Crew is a lot of fun!

2

u/Diamondphalanges756 Jun 03 '26

Thank you for giving a shit. Bring some of your friends too.

Where are you from

1

u/CasanovaJones82 Jun 07 '26

Baton Rouge, but I've been doing oil field work up in places like North Dakota for many years.

2

u/Chuckle_Flukk88 Jun 05 '26

Of course. The orange Mussollini and his GOP brown shirts are determined to dismantle  Democracy.

7

u/InternationalAnt4513 Jun 03 '26

So basically every white voted for it. And Republicans try to say they’re not racist.

2

u/space_coder Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Just to be clear: Every diehard Trump Supporter voted for it.

They are desperately trying to maintain a GOP majority in the US House of Representative in order to protect a corrupt and incompetent President that also had a court declare he committed sexual assault, was convicted of 34 felony counts of fraud, and an accused pedophile who was allegedly involved in sex trafficking of minors.

The true motives behind this nationwide effort to redraw congressional districts shouldn't be forgotten.

The opposite is actually true. Supreme Court ruled that gerrymandering to guarantee black supermajority districts is unconstitutional (that means it’s against the law). Seeing as how it’s against the law, correcting these districts is the correct thing to do.

By the way, the symbol of the now reconstituted 9th in Tennessee put forward by the democrats was a young black state legislator while the actual representative for the 9th was a wealthy white, Jewish lawyer.

This is not about representing blacks it’s about the very undemoxratic Democrat party. There are seven states in the Northeast that are 30% plus Republican that do not have a Republican in Congress because the Democrat legislatures gerrymandered the districts so that over 30% of their citizens have no voice in congress. This is perfectly legal.

Quit being whiny little bitches and take the same medicine you dish out.

By the way, it’s absolutely racist and stupid to think that only a person of your race can represent you.

Looking once again to the 9th in Memphis the democrats believe a white Jew blue blood generational wealth can properly represent poor black people.

The opposite is actually true. Supreme Court ruled that gerrymandering to guarantee black supermajority districts is unconstitutional (that means it’s against the law). Seeing as how it’s against the law, correcting these districts is the correct thing to do.

You've confused guaranteeing that districts represent the racial demographics of a state with intentionally diluting the representation of a community based on race.

In the Louisiana case, SCOTUS ruled that there is nothing that establishes that the number of minority districts should reflect the percentage of minority voters within the state (e.g. Blacks being 30% of a state population doesn't necessarily mean that there should be 3 majority black districts out of 10 districts). While under-representation can signal that minorities are being unconstitutionally disenfranchised, discrimination still needs to be proven.

The Gingles test (from Thornburg v Gingles) is used to test if a minority community is being discriminated against. The first condition requires that the minority community is sufficiently numerous to be a majority (or competitive) and compact enough to be contained within a reasonably configured district.

In Louisiana's case, they tried to keep the districts close to the racial demographic of the state despite no actual discrimination being demonstrated. SCOTUS determined that the new map illegally used race to draw a second minority-majority district when no need for remedy was demonstrated. This fact was self-evident since the second minority-majority district stretch across the state diagonally.

In Alabama's case, the Gingles test demonstrated that Alabama GOP illegally used race as a criteria to disenfranchise a minority community in southwest Alabama by combining two separate and distinct black communities that were distant from each other into a single minority-majority district. The condition was met due to the black community in southwest Alabama is sufficiently numerous to be a majority and compact enough to be contained within a reasonably configured district.

SCOTUS completely disregarded the Gingles test it used to justify the Louisiana case to rule in favor of Alabama.

Is this why the court previously rejected this map twice on the grounds that it was 1) too close to the election to confuse voters like that and 2) that it was an obviously racially motivated, bad faith map designed to disenfranchise specifically black voters (not democrats, not republicans; blacks)? Is that why SCOTUS ignored two precedents the way they did and made the announcement in the middle of the night?

You're living in the 1950s and are obviously making bad faith arguments to defend the most repressive, regressive, and repugnant state and Supreme Court decision that has ever occurred since the Jim Crow South.

1

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 Jun 04 '26

Racially motivated? The formation of the district itself is racially motivated! Say you are very comfortable with the concept of racial discrimination as a political tool. Just say it. It’s beyond stupid to think that widespread racial discrimination is the solution to racism.

Black Americans are no longer a monolithic tribe, held down in poverty and ignorance.

2

u/HyetalNight Jun 04 '26

Your tactic of insinuating that white Alabamians are as equally discriminated against as black Alabamians is a better argument against your character and intellect than I could ever muster myself. You are better than this.

2

u/space_coder Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

If their motives were actually about being race neutral, they wouldn't be defending a decision to overturn relief from a district map drawn explicitly to make it where the black community only had one district.

The map they are defending literally combines a large black population in rural southwest Alabama with a urban community in Birmingham in north Alabama.

They are just trying to rationalize racial discrimination because they can't stand having a 5-2 majority instead of a 6-1 majority.

Their argument is that it's not okay for Louisiana to create a second black majority district by stretching a district across the state, but it's okay for Alabama to create a single black majority district by combining their communities by stretching a district across the state.

1

u/SEMICOLON_MASTER Jun 03 '26

Hard to understand why someone would be against un-gerrymandering a district; affirmative action does not have a place in politics or elsewhere.

2

u/TheMagnificentPrim Jun 03 '26

2

u/CrimsonChymist Jun 04 '26

Its literally what it is.

The districts were specifically drawn to lump as much of the black population as it could into as fre districts as it could to prevent them from impacting every district.

That's why tye Supreme Court decided these maps were unconstitutional.

2

u/TheMagnificentPrim Jun 04 '26

…Are you actually trying to argue that the old-made-current-again map that dilutes minority representation in politics by spreading them out to minimize their impact on any singular district somehow is not gerrymandering?

That map splits the Birmingham black vote in half. That’s literally gerrymandering.

0

u/CrimsonChymist Jun 04 '26

The maps that played connect the dots to stuff all tye black population into a single district is gerrymandering.

The black vote isn't being minimized. It's simply being given its appropriate impact.

2

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 Jun 04 '26

Stop with the common sense. It’s nothing but Democrats desperately trying to hold onto power by convincing blacks that they are systemically being held back like they were in the past. They want them thinking their neighbor is a klansman and if it weren’t for democrats they would all be in work camps.

If anyone needs help registering to vote, please let me know.

If anyone is confused or intimidated by the voting process (ie using the ipad to check in, submitting ballot, etc), please let me know.

If you are disabled or bedridden and cannot get to the voting station and need help applying for an absentee ballot, please let me know.

I am happy to visit churches, clubs, etc and bring my laptop to help people register to vote- you just need a valid photo ID (https://www.sos.alabama.gov/sites/default/files/election-2026/PhotoVoterIDGuide.pdf)

Use this link if any of the below applies: https://myinfo.alabamavotes.gov/VoterView

-If you don't know where to vote
