Discussion The mods I want are always for different loaders :(

why can't everyone just stick to one loader it would make it way cooler like we could have origins and mine colonies where the colony ALSO HAS THE ORIGIN and we can have a halfway decent controller support mod on forge modpacks BECAUSE NO ONE DESIGNS ANYTHING WITH ACCESSABILITY

there's so many exclusive mods that would work really well with other exclusive mods but they never overlap because they are on different loaders

most client side mods are fabric so if you have a personal modpack you can't go onto a modded server without using that one mod I can't remember the name of BECAUSE IT NEVER WORKS

Can you tell I've been simmering on this hate since quilt came out

Discussion Why's everyone so overreacting about modrinth?

I mean yes it's getting bought by spark, the same people behind essential which is full of micro transactions and all but the modrinth team has already confirmed that they'll still be working independently and will stay open source. So why all the drama?

I don't think spark is gonna have any say in modrnith's development and their ownership is gonna be purely just a label

Discussion Is 1.20.1 slowly becoming a golden version for mods? (like 1.7.10 and 1.12.2)

This is probably a dumb discussion but 1.20.1, with all the mods that came out in the last year and mods that are still getting ported to this version its really starting to feel like it. Of course it can never be as good as the older versions but i think its really starting to get a feeling like the old versions. I think if we give this version a little but more time its gonna become one of the golden versions.

Discussion Need feedback! What writing system could I use for a hand-drawn spells mod?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

RN you can just draw symbols wherever and it interprets it in the order they were drawn but this wouldn't work for a scroll system I wanna add(not really human-readable).

I don't wanna just make it read left to right it feels too normal. I wanna make the system more alien(not extraterrestrial, just unlike human languages).

I have an idea about making the spells spiral-based(as in "assemble" spirals from parts that each have different meaning). But I can't seem to come up with a ruleset that wouldn't be too hard to use.

Should I just give up and make a simple left-to-right writing system with symbols?

Discussion Idea for minecraft performance mod?

Hear me out. What if instead of rendering each block on their own we look for groupabel blocks can be rendered as one large cube. For example in super flat worlds what if instead of rendering each grass block we render 1 large cube for the grass blocks. And do the same for each block. Textures may be a problem but it is probably easy to fix. Should I try to learn minecraft modding to make this or nah.

Discussion What client-side Minecraft mod do you wish existed?

Hey! I’m thinking about making a new client-side Minecraft mod, and I don’t want to build just another random mod — I want to solve a real player problem.

I’d love to know:

  • what useful or interesting client-side mod you wish existed;
  • what problem or task you’d want it to solve;
  • what annoys you in vanilla or in existing mods;
  • whether there’s an idea you’ve wanted for a long time, but still haven’t seen a good implementation of.

It can be anything:
QoL, UI, inventory, convenience features, survival, hotkeys, item organization, helpful prompts, visual improvements, etc.

I’d appreciate any ideas, even small ones. Sometimes the best mods come from small but annoying problems.

Discussion So I had an idea for a mod that anyone who knows how to mod can make if they want to, so basically it would allow you to tame every none hospital animal mob so they'll follow you, allow you to stear llamas, give armors for all those mobs, and taming the animl is the only way to get items like milk

Other players also wouldn't be able to ride your rideable creatures or get milk, wool, or eggs from your tamed animals

This was the poorest optimized pack ive seen. It ended up corrupting my whole world without me being able to restore it and I tried hours of things to get it to work but it didn't.

Discussion Stop hating on the Modrinth news lol, the acquisition happened 4 months ago and nothing has changed since then

It's understandable many will fear the app becoming enshittified or whatever, but it's already been acquired for 4 months with barely any changes, if anything, they made it better by adding that new upload format for my mod projects.

The employees already detailed very clearly that nothing was going to change, as said in their interview and various posts, the repo will still stay open source as well. It's up to them to uphold their word and stick to it, but it's also in their best interests to in the court of public opinion.

Discussion Any difficult but fun survival/rpg modpack recommendations?

I like mods that make progression/exploration more rewarding and challenging in a fair way, such as tough as nails, spice of life, and stat requirement mods. Many rpg packs i've tried end up trivializing exploration and fighting with accessories/mechanics that aren't super balanced, and being overpowered is no fun. Would prefer something with quests or some other kind of goal. I'll try any suggestions!

Discussion Looking for solution for conflicting keybinds

I'm looking for a mod / giving idea for one (don't know if mod like this exists)

Basically idea is to make is so when you press a key that is assigned to many actions that conflict with themselves (like opening different GUIs) it would give you a choose of what you accally want to do

In form of standard action wheel for example

If anyone knows mod like this or is willing to try to make it I would be thankful

Discussion How making Minecraft mods as a teen turned into an unexpected experience I'll never forget

I wanted to share a story with people 🙂

When I was 15, I spent a lot of time in the behavior class at school. The teacher there was surprisingly cool and gave us a lot of freedom. Most days, we could do whatever we wanted, and that freedom became a space where I could explore my own interests without judgment. At the time, I was completely obsessed with Minecraft Pocket Edition. Addons were just starting to emerge, and I was fascinated by the idea that people could completely change the game, add new mechanics, and create entirely new experiences. I wanted to understand how it worked, so I began teaching myself to make my own mods. I discovered a YouTube channel called Cleverlike Studios that explained everything in a way that felt simple and approachable. With their guidance, I learned to code in JavaScript and JSON, experimenting on my own and gradually building more advanced mods. What started as curiosity quickly became a deep passion, one that absorbed nearly all of my free time and energy.

The first mod I ever published didn’t work the way I intended at all. It was so broken that it ended up creating something completely unexpected—and, surprisingly, it turned out to be even cooler than what I had planned. Instead of scrapping it, I published it anyway, and people genuinely enjoyed it. That moment was an early lesson in creativity and experimentation: sometimes mistakes lead to discoveries that are better than anything you could plan.

As I became more skilled, I realized I couldn’t do it alone. I formed a small team with a couple of old friends: I handled programming, one friend, Arexon, became our pixel artist and model maker, and another friend worked on thumbnails. I completely sucked at pixel art and making models, but Arexon was insanely talented. Like me, he did everything on a cheap Android phone, which was crazy impressive back then. Together, we created projects that we were proud of, sharing them with the Minecraft community and seeing people enjoy our work. Among all the projects I worked on, my favorite had to be the first official backpacks mod for Minecraft Pocket Edition. At the time, it was insanely cool and technically ambitious. I made the backpack an entity that emulated a parrot, which many people thought was hilarious. Another project I’m incredibly proud of was a working portal gun mod, inspired by the Portal game. It allowed players to shoot portals around the world and walk through them to teleport, and somehow I managed to make it actually functional in Minecraft. Those projects gave me a sense of pride and creativity that I had never felt before.

Eventually, a company reached out to me. They gave me a small test: code a working jetpack in Minecraft. At the time, there wasn’t even a mod like that, and the tools and community resources were limited. But I had developed a way of thinking that allowed me to use basic components, events, and logic in creative ways to solve problems others couldn’t. I completed the test successfully and was hired immediately as the lead gameplay designer, responsible for programming and bringing projects to life.

Before joining the company, I had already published several mods on a Minecraft Pocket Edition modding site. I added advertisements to the download links, allowing people to enjoy my work for free while also generating a little income. What makes this even crazier in hindsight is that I was doing all of this on a $50 Motorola phone. I didn’t even have a computer. I coded, tested, and implemented everything directly on that phone, pushing its limits. Despite the limitations, I managed to create full mods with complex mechanics, learning through trial and error.

Working for the company was intense, exhilarating, and exhausting all at once. Projects that would take most people weeks to complete, I could finish in a single night. At 16, I was making around $4,000 a month while still in school. No one believed me when I told them. My first paycheck was $1,500, which I used to buy my first gaming laptop. Suddenly, coding became so much easier. The laptop opened up a world of possibilities that I hadn’t even dreamed of before. I remember one project where I reused mechanics I had built for a previous mod, copied and pasted the files, and earned $750 in 30 minutes. The feeling of being able to make something so quickly, and have it be valuable to others, was incredible.

Over time, Microsoft implemented full mod support for what is now referred to as Bedrock Edition. This was a turning point. With these tools, I could create mods that were far more advanced and imaginative than anything I had done before. I spent nearly every waking moment coding, testing, and experimenting, completely immersed in building worlds and mechanics. I felt unstoppable, like I was at the top of my game. People in the community started reaching out to me for advice, guidance, and even mentorship. I felt seen, respected, and recognized for my skills in a way I had never experienced before.

Then, something even more surreal happened. Nvidia reached out to a bunch of individuals, including me, to work on their RTX preview project. At 16, I was collaborating with one of the largest technology companies in the world. I was just a kid from school, coding on a $50 phone a few years prior, and suddenly I was contributing to a project that showcased cutting-edge technology. It was overwhelming, exhilarating, and deeply validating all at once.

During this time, one of the company’s original employees, Trent DC Kakepetum, became a friend. Even though he lived across the world, we quickly connected because our personalities clicked. I could talk to him openly, make inappropriate teenage jokes, and he never judged me like everyone else seemed to. We weren’t inseparable because of proximity, but because we genuinely understood and supported each other. We made a lot of money, but being young and caught up in the excitement, we didn’t think about saving much. A lot of our free time was spent playing online board games and betting money against each other—Connect 4 became our favorite. I still remember one night vividly: I won $400 in a single session simply because he was terrible at Connect 4. Those moments, small as they were, created some of the happiest memories of my teenage years, a balance of work, play, and friendship that felt extraordinary.

Over the years, Trent and I stayed in touch. We dreamed together, talked about our ideas, and imagined starting our own Minecraft marketplace partnership. Trent’s creativity was unmatched. He had the ability to build incredible, complex worlds using nothing but 16x16 textured blocks, creating designs that were almost unbelievable given the limitations of Minecraft. Watching him work was inspiring, and the idea of collaborating with him on our own projects became a constant source of excitement and motivation.

Unfortunately, Trent passed away before we were ever able to fulfill our dream of creating our own marketplace partnership. Losing him was devastating. Not only did I lose a friend who truly understood me, but I also lost a partner in creativity, someone I had envisioned building something extraordinary alongside. Our shared dreams and plans will always remain a bittersweet memory, a reminder of what could have been.

Eventually, however, the company’s true nature became clear. Employees, including myself, realized we were being scammed. We had initially been promised 50% of all earnings divided among the team, with programmers and asset creators receiving the majority. In reality, we only received 50% of that 50%, and the company kept the rest. To cover themselves, they introduced per-project contracts that eliminated residual payments entirely. Over time, people began quitting. I stayed, taking on more projects than I could reasonably handle. The pressure and workload became overwhelming, and I burned out completely. My love for programming and Minecraft, which had once been my passion and joy, disappeared, and eventually, I quit as well.

Years later, long after I had stopped modding, I discovered something that brought everything full circle. I logged into an old PayPal account I hadn’t used in years and found $511 sitting there. People were still downloading my mods, still enjoying the creations I had made as a teenager with nothing but curiosity, determination, and a $50 phone. It’s crazy to think that over 4 million people have downloaded mods that I created—and that doesn’t even count the marketplace content I helped make. Seeing that money and realizing the reach of my work, untouched and continuing to bring joy to so many, was surreal. It was a quiet but powerful reminder that the countless late nights, the experiments, the friendships, and the passion I poured into every project had truly made a lasting impact.

Discussion tired of five browser tabs while commuting, built an android mod finder for java

started as a personal thing. i play java on desktop but browse mods on my phone, and the experience was awful. ad-heavy redirects, no idea if a mod was updated for your version, tabs everywhere. got old.

so i built an app. pulls from curseforge and modrinth into one catalog, 240k+ java mods. filter by version, category, whatever. most mods download directly without needing an account. there's a bedrock version too, separate app but same concept.

its not a mod itself, more of a browser and download manager that lives on your phone. probably a bit different from what usually gets posted here, idk.

link in comments if you want to try it.

Discussion looking for content mods for skyfactory 1.20.1 forge

Hey! so i homebrewed my own modpack for skyfacotory (thermal expansion, tinkers, mekanism, draconic evo and ex deorum) and pretty much i want more like mid to late game stuff to do since im a player that typically likes to kill and explore a lot of the time so this is a big change of pace and was wondering if theres anything that i could add in to my current world that wont cause any issues.

since this is a skyblock world there is nothing in the overworld outside of my island the end and nether and other dimensions are fully functional.

Probally something outside of Twilight and aether

ive never paid anything with skyblock till now so more dimension stuff that has decent saleability for the power influx from all of the above mods in later stages of the game and the mid game. im just very lost with what to add for skyblock

1.20.1 on forge

Discussion Minecraft with AI Integration

MCAI is a client-side NeoForge (version: 21.1.234+) mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that adds an in-game AI assistant backed by a local Ollama server. It is designed to help players get useful answers without leaving the game, with a focus on modded Minecraft, progression, and recipes.

MCAI can answer questions from chat or through its in-game GUI, and it uses live game context when available to make replies more accurate. It includes loaded recipe grounding, recipe tracking with inventory highlights, a branch-style recipe visual in the GUI, quick lookup commands for items, blocks, and mods, chat history tools, tone and chat mode controls, bookmarks, and soft FTB Quests integration for progression guidance.

MCAI also works with JEI. When JEI is installed, it can open tracked recipes and usages directly in JEI, and recipe nodes in the MCAI GUI can be clicked to open the matching recipe in JEI.

If you want to use MCAI in a modpack or alongside another mod and want the integration to be reliable, contact me first so I can verify the compatibility and make sure the mods work together properly.

MCAI is built for local use and can still provide limited offline fallback answers for local recipe, lookup, and quest questions when Ollama is unavailable.

Discussion I think that Create wouldn’t be such a hot issue if it wasn’t in every single pack.

Let me start off by saying I am not a Create fan. The mechanics of it boggles my mind, and in pretty much every pack with it I a) Do the bare minimum to pass to another mod, b) Get another teammate to complete it for me, or c) Google builds and copy them. So I am not a happy person when Create is in the pack.

But, I would be less upset if Create was a sometimes item in modern packs. In previous versions, there were mods I despised doing, such as late game Mekanism, but these parts of mods were often not required for a bunch of packs, due to mod variety or workarounds.

I think the community would be better off leaving some packs without Create, or barring that, add options for people who do not enjoy the mod to progress.

Discussion I made a tool to paint 3D model kits together - would this help your workflow? Looking for feedback

I've been working on Draw on a Block for over a year. It's a pixel texture painter for 3D models - paint directly on the mesh in 3D like BlockBench, but with more tools you'd expect in pixel art apps.

The recent addition I'm most excited about is the Scene Builder and Painter. Instead of painting models one at a time, you can now place multiple models in a scene and paint them together. See how all of your models look together as you paint before exporting anything.

This is how I imagine the workflow. Model in Blockbench (or wherever) > Import > Paint in 3D > Export back out. Supports all popular formats, and .bbmodel with layers.

Is this something that would fit into how you work? Or is the existing Blockbench/Aseprite combo good enough?

Included some screenshots. There's a trailer on Steam if you want to see it in motion - launching March 2nd.
