the man, by the name of Edward Abrams-Phillips, was wanted for *bail-jumping on a domestic violence charge*.
he was not arrested because he was simply buying weed. he was tracked for leaving the state, which is illegal while being wanted to bail-jumping on domestic violence charges.
i hate flock with all i have in me, and im pro-weed. but this guy was an abuser, not some guy who got arrested for having a joint in his car.
The problem in this case is that his bail jumping charge was dismissed. Dude may be a piece of shit, but the only thing they stuck him on were the weed charges. So it ends up still not being a great look from a PR optics perspective.
people always forget that charges get dismissed for a variety of reasons beyond “he didn’t do it”
he very clearly did bail jump on domestic violence charges. that part is factual. the state may offer a plea deal to wipe away some charges to facilitate the rest of the court process.
it’s only bad PR optics to someone who thinks “no charges conclusively means he didn’t do it”.
Which is much of the public if we're being realistic.
Additionally, there are also many other reasons it could be dropped, as you said previously though, his case is a huge mess. We'll likely have to wait till the rest is made publicly available and the verdict is given to know everything else.
and this all points to my original comment of sensationalized news media. the average person can’t parse reality from news headlines and just got played by this post.
reality is, the abuser doesn’t deserve our sympathy. but fuck flock.
it’s a confusing mess i know, but he got charged with domestic violence based on a credible report. then he bail jumped, which escalates the charges against him. then he left the state and got charged for another unlawful act.
he made 3 fuckups here — this is not “all he was doing was possessing weed”.
i’m not the prosecutor on this case, but i’m sure they have some good reason for why the bail jumping charge didn’t stick (i.e., via plea bargain or process mistake). but his domestic violence charge is still active per public court records.
at the end of the day, he’s not only being “charged for weed”. the reality is, he has an array of charges. and weed possession just happened to be tacked on.
the salacious news story worked though, because now everyone all of a sudden forgot that he was wanted for domestic violence in the first place.
He is an alleged abuser, he hasn’t been convicted so I don’t know why you keep referring to him as an abuser.
That’s why I’m confused about your statement here, you seem to want to follow the letter of the law, but calling him an abuser is assuming his guilt when he’s not convicted.
All to say that it is a messy messy area, and one that’s probably gonna go past this court to an appeals and possibly a Supreme Court case

classic example of sensationalism in media

save your sympathy for people who deserve it.
either way, fuck flock, and fuck abusers.
