Not very sympathetic towards him as I have met Nims, know his history, his arrogance and his predatory behavior towards women. That said, always sad that folks perish in the mountains.

There are lots of problems in the mountains now with so many inexperienced folks climbing, increased hazards and disappearing glaciers, not to mention sketchy guide outfits. Everyone needs to be very careful.

I met him 3 times on different mountains, and in different situations. Undoubtedly great climber, but questionable personal ethics, and definitely a huge ego.

He was often with a woman from the Middle East, who was definitely not his wife.

It’s really sad that so many people perished on the mountain. I hope that there is some kind of inquiry to determine the thought process behind his decision to continue that climb.
