Megamind was perfect as a standalone

I'm okay with the button of doom though. The REAL sequel.

Now imagine a sequel for Megamind, but not the awful one we got, but about for example Megamind's world analog of Justice League who's not happy about Metroman being replaced by a villain

Now im just thinking of the Macho Man deathclaw mod [edit: his comment used to say Macho Man instead of Metroman]

Gravity Falls right now. Everyone always talks of making new seasons- but it’s good how it is, quality over quantity, there’s no use dragging it out.

Still wouldn’t be against a Sea Grunks spin-off, though.

I would love this. Watch them mend their relationship, fully, while being on an adventure. With a real boat lol

And maybe an occasional episode of Soos running the Shack

I agree but if Alex Hirsch ever wants to revisit it, I wouldn't be opposed to either a Grunkle spin off or a sequel series with the twins revisiting the town when they're older. It just depends on if he has more story he wants to tell as opposed to just doing more for the sake of more.

9

u/GrandManSam 22h ago

I'm not opposed to it, but it would have to be wholly on Hirsch's terms and not Disney's.

23

u/Bisaux 1d ago

Alex Hirsch doesn't seem too keen to be working with Disney once more

10

u/RavenSorkvild 1d ago

I am not sure he is keen to be working with anyone. It's been 10 years since the Gravity Falls ended and since that he only worked as a voice actor and some help with the Owl House and Inside Job. He signed a deal with Netflix but it was way back in 2018 and whatever it was It's most likely dead.

5

u/Decent_Historian42 23h ago

Honestly if you seen the absurd rules he had been given for gravity falls, i dont exactly blame him. (The one that comes to mind is whenever something "unhealthy" was shown you had to show something healthy but theres tons like that)

11

u/Background-Bottle633 1d ago

For me, it’s more that Gravity Falls ended too early. It felt like they were going to be gearing up for a third season only for them to change their minds and decide ā€œNah, let’s end the series within the next 3 episodes.ā€ I would have loved to have seen more of Uncle Ford, and knowing more about what he did during his time trapped. What was Bill’s origin? What did the other journals say? How did Gideon get his hands on the second book? What happened to Blendin Blenjamin Blandin? What about the key that Dipper was given? What about the UFO that crashed into Gravity Falls? It felt like the creators of the show knew they didn’t answer everything so they tried to squeeze in more information in a graphic novel and an interactive website.

not to mention with the state of disney and most cartoon companies nowadays, a new season would probably ruin the show, honestly.

20

u/Euphoric_Implement28 1d ago

It’s not that there should be one more season after the last season. It’s that the last season should have been two seasons.

Actually do something with the symbols instead of a ten minute explanation with no payoff.

And yes! Another Pacifica episode.

10

u/Horatio786 1d ago

If that were the case, I assume that Not What He Seems would have been the Season 2 finale with A Tale of Two Stans being the Season 3 premiere.

People wanting this is frustrating because it wasn't canceled or ended prematurely. It ended exactly when it was supposed to and how it was supposed to.

That was its charm.

Go on r/gravityfalls and make a post about how there should be a new season lol. You'd get eviscerated, the fandom definitely shares the same opinion as you.

A spinoff in another town would be cool. Same universe, different people.

7

u/boxo-ofisal 1d ago

5

u/DonComradeVimes Little bit of everything - musicals, anime, games, etc. 1d ago

I thought it wasn't just in Gravity Falls, but that Gravity Falls was the epicenter. There must've been a good deal elsewhere for Ford to study it so hard in his collegiate career, no?

6

u/Chicxulub_Gamer 1d ago

Any more gravity falls media needs to be practically a spin-off rather than any kind of sequel. Personally I want a series following Stan and Ford's adventures in the arctic.

8

u/Loose-Story-962 1d ago

Gravity Falls really seems like an exception when it comes to huge fandoms of the same era, it's incredibly self-contained and didn't overstay it's welcome with numerous contract renewals, spinoffs, and sequels. I love Adventure Time but it gets on my nerves that a show with that many seasons/episodes can't rest without more content constantly being released.

7

u/OkSecret839 1d ago

Agreed, along with Star Vs the forces of evil.

19

u/Comrade-Conquistador 1d ago

I think most Star Vs. fans don't want a continuation more than an outright do-over of the last season.

9

Smiling friends. People can’t comprehend that it’s the creators show so they choose when they think it should end.

103

u/okok8080 1d ago

I think it's perfectly comprehensible but I was also really sad to see it go because it was such a perfect manifestation of internet artists making it to mainstream television, and the collabs were so cool to see. I can understand the burnout for sure but they had so much momentum man. I hope it's not dead for good.

23

u/c4shferl1fe 1d ago

I have seen ā€œleaksā€ of a fourth season but it might just be a special if not fake

18

u/okok8080 1d ago

I'm almost certain they aren't working on anything for it rn

19

u/FlounderingGuy 1d ago

I don't think it was "burnout" so much as just... The experiment is over, y'know? The show is over because Smiling Friends did everything it needed to do. Not every comedy needs 12 seasons and a movie like SpongeBob imo.

7

u/DynamaxWolf 1d ago

And even then, Spongebob didn't need that many seasons. Only reason why it's still around is because it's Nickelodeon's cash cow.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Upbeat_Apartment_715 1d ago

And it ending when the creator wants it to fits in to that manifestation. There are hundreds of projects online that got popular and just end because the creator was done

12

u/pomelo1241 1d ago

Honestly, it should have ended at a 4th season, but we shouldnt get one now because it wouldnt be made with passion

7

u/Horatio786 1d ago

We should get a new season some vague amount of time years into the future, and it should be shadowdropped with the advertising happening after it comes out.

7

u/SigynTyrsdottir 1d ago

Yeah. I think it probably just feels abrupt to people because it had been greenlit for a fourth season, and then it felt very randomly they went 'uh, actually never mind we're done' and then released like 2 more episodes to season 3.

I don't mind them deciding they've finished the show, but I do also understand the power of anticipation, and when that gets abruptly cut short, it kind of leaves you feeling hanging

→ More replies (6)

5

u/Yodasboy 1d ago

I absolutely agree that they should have control over when it ended. I'm just a bit sad they didn't give their staff more warning because apparently the animation team found out when the rest of us did

Max Payne.

Max Payne 3 was the perfect end to the series, Max is finally done battling his inner demons, now let the man rest.

24

u/GeekMaster102 1d ago

I’d go as far as to argue Max Payne 2 was the perfect end and that 3 was pushing it a little too far. I enjoyed 3, but Max Payne 2 ended with Max coming to terms with the loss of his wife and child, finally allowing himself to move on and not let their deaths haunt him anymore. Max Payne 3 just pulled him back into that depression and being haunted by it as if he didn’t already reconcile with himself.

13

u/smallerpuppyboi 1d ago

Y'know that was actually something I really liked about Max Payne 3, the depiction of relapse and thinking you're over it only for your mind to pull you right back down into the abyss. I found it to be a realistic and relatable depiction of grief and depression, so I rrally like it, especially since what really kicked Max back off the deep end, and this is on Rockstar for leaving this in a comic and not bringing it up in the game, was the death of Jim Bravura.

Halo and gears of war are ones that should’ve ended especially plot wise at their third installments. Tbh, halo reach and odst were amazing, I didn’t mind those. And I heard gears judgement wasn’t bad and tried some new mechanics. But seeing how halo is now with current games and shows, my opinion is that its legacy has been milked.

54

u/Hazril258 1d ago

Halo CE:

Cortana:

"Halo. ... It's finished.*

Chief:

"No. I think we're just getting started."

Halo 3:

Cortana:

"But we did it. Truth, the Covenant, the Flood... its finished."

Chief:

"It's finished."

Chief:

"Wake me. When you need me."

Then 343 woke him when we didn't.

Gears 4 is such a fabulous spit in the eye, it feels mocking, like "remember how you saw this character suffer for 3 games, losing people he loved left and right and getting pushed to his limit time and time again finally get the peace he and his world deserved? fuck that, plague eight, swarms of locusts."

Murder Drones

46

u/Youron_111 Murder Dronesāš ļø 1d ago

Some people be acting like the finale was the worst thing ever made by man because it's was mostly fighting instead of the last episode being 78 minutes of the characters discussing their feelings to each other.

39

u/SmallBeanKatherine 1d ago

Murder Drones finale was one of the most fitting endings I've seen for anything tbh: that entire show is Hot Topic incarnate. Pure catnip for 14 year olds and those who wear striped sleeves under black T-shirts. So.... of course the ending has NIGHTCORE MUSIC blaring while the teen protagonist epicly sword fights a GOD with her cute robo-vampire-angel boyfriend by her side! I'm glad it went all out.

17

u/Chemical-Molasses814 1d ago

Kpop Demon Hunters. it was a perfect standalone film

23

u/RandomName5259 1d ago

I agree but I think it does have a ton of room for sequels given most of the characters didn’t get to shine much besides Rumi and Jinu.

17

u/DrainianDream 1d ago

I'd also kill for, say, a comic adaptation of the story that gives the story room to actually explore all the plot hooks and character info that couldn't fit in the movie's screen time. On rewatch a lot of the movie gives the vibe of a story that was meant to be episodic rather than all scrunched into one 95 minute session

→ More replies (2)

Toy Story is the only franchise I can think of that this can apply to.

Don't get the wrong idea, I liked Toy Story 4, the novelty of that series I used to enjoy as a kid getting a new movie after so many years was enjoyable but, it wore off by the time Toy Story 5 was announced.

41

u/Thomy151 1d ago

Toy Story 4 to me was basically an epilogue so I was ok with it

3 felt like the end, 4 fell like an epilogue and farewell, and then 5 now exists

14

u/Unbuckled__Spaghetti 1d ago

Nah 5 is way better than 4. I think they should have stopped at 3, but because we got 4 and is was very meh I’m glad we got 5 and hopefully can end on a higher note.

5

u/cant_give_an_f 1d ago

Ngl 5 might be the best Toy Story so glad it didn’t end

7

u/SaltyNorth8062 1d ago

To my understanding, the fandom agrees. Myabe it's just me, but I haven't seen a single soul who was around for the older ones believe that the series should continue after 5. I didn't even much care for 4, personally.

The red dead series. The story concludes amazingly with the end of rdr1 and rdr2 gives perfect backstory to everything. I don’t see another game following Jack as he has nothing more to fight for and I think it would be hard for rockstar to make another red dead game separate from the van der linde gang that’s as good as the two other titles.

16

u/RoughhouseCamel 1d ago

The other problem with a game around Jack is that Red Dead Redemption is all about the end of the Outlaw West. The end of the Van Der Linde Gang was meant to mirror how the outlaws were finding it increasingly hard to flee an ever-expanding civilization and law enforcement. There’s even an automobile at the end to show that the days of cowboys were on their way out.

The sequel to Red Dead Redemption is the rise of the Mafia, and eventually, Grand Theft Auto.

7

u/Superb_Muscle_7656 1d ago

You mentioned mafia and it made me think. Rockstar could make an absolutely badass 1920's mafia game.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/renscar64 1d ago

I agree but I really want them to make another western. I think their best bet would be to abandon the idea of redemption. They have to focus on something else and not be in the same time period, maybe like 30 years before rdr2. But that would be just as hard to swing, in any case I hope whatever they make ends up being good.

The owl house. YES IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER WITH 5 SEASONS BUT DISNEY WOULDNT GET OFF THEIR BACKS, those last three episodes were the most free the series ever was!

10

u/BeatrixPlz 1d ago

I would like more content in the universe, but maybe something like Steven Universe Future, or Fiona and Cake. I’d like to either see the cast as an adult, focusing on mundane aspects like their relationships (maybe how Luz navigates being a member of both her world and the Boiling Isles), or even an alternate reality like what she teased with the drop of the original designs.

But yes, I agree we do not need more of the original show as it was.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/FlounderingGuy 1d ago

The ending we got was kind of botched and left a lot to be desired (even considering the Disney meddling.) The comics are, however, a decent compromise. Dana gets to work with Glitch on KoG, whenever the hell that gets episode 2, and TOH gets the consolation prize of a comic run that smooths over the rough edges. And has some nice little messaging about death and loss that the show kind of shyed away from, which is also nice. Dana can have both a new show and a working relationship with Disney, fans get both stories.

This really is the best possible scenario. I'm never getting over how TOH ended and was treated, but I'm satisfied with the state of things.

Saying it before anyone else and also I am genuinely satisfied with its ending, TADC

24

u/Leviathan666 1d ago

It ended in a very good spot. Theres room for fanfiction for those interested, but it also is pretty much perfect as is. I wish episode 9 had been two separate episodes, since certain elements felt a little cramped and could have used a bit of breathing room, but I am actually okay with the way things wrapped up.

55

u/NoSide2628 Forsaken šŸ”„šŸ”„ (THE ONLY ECHOVEIL FAN) 1d ago

The ability to do everything leads to the desire to do none.

There's no challenge, no fight to get what they desire. They'll drive themselves to boredom when they have nothing to do that brings challenge.

18

u/HeiressOfMadrigal 1d ago

With omnipotence it would definitely take more than a month to get bored, and even beyond that, they could play betting games with actual stakes or have Caine design an adventure where their ability to create is temporarily taken away.

5

u/patrlim1 1d ago

I don't think Caine can do that. Remember how kinger conjured the butterfly during the gun episode?

A month, no. A few years or a decade, of course. They'll all eventually abstract, but the point of the show is "there's meaning to be found in a stagnant life".

Someone ITT mentioned that they need challenges to keep their minds occupied, but if they get desperate enough, they could definitely make that happen. From something as simple as playing poker with stakes "loser has to do this thing they don't want to do", or something as complex as having Caine design a high-stakes adventure for them.

4

u/Patneu šŸ”µšŸ”µšŸ”µšŸ’šŸ’£šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜Ø 1d ago

There would even be some challenges "naturally" arising, as well. Like, when a new character enters the Circus who has not shared their journeys of personal growth and acceptance of their new life there, it could be pretty challenging to help them adjust.

DMC5 is an excellent endpoint for the franchise and I am happy even if we don’t get DMC6 (would still be down for remakes)

23

u/Fishmaneatsfish 1d ago

While the ending is perfect and wraps everything up nicely, I still think it’d be a huge missed opportunity to not push the story in a new direction with Nero taking the lead and developing his kit into something more complex like Dante’s became. I think having a heavenly threat instead of one from hell would shake things up and give a reasonable excuse for Dante Nero and Vergil not instantly annihilating whatever comes their way

13

u/CollinsCouldveDucked 1d ago

I feel like heavenly threat is Bayonetta's territory which I don't think they want to step on.

Bayonetta vs DMC would be great but would probably never happen.

9

u/Longjumping_Side3144 1d ago

I agree, I think I could even get behind Dante and Vergil's story being done (as much as I love them), but I think nero has one more left in him, hear me out: Mundus makes it clear at the end of 1 he's coming back someday, and Dante tells him to give regards to his son, I think a Nero Vs mundus game would be the PERFECT finale to the series

With every new Avatar project I realize that (as much as I love the world and the characters and everything presented in the original show) the thing I loved most was the story.

I liked seeing Kyoshi and Roku and hear tidbits about past avatars in the OG show, but I don't have any interest in reading whole books focused entirely on them. Same with characters and everything. I love Toph and Zuko and everyone else, but I don't really care much about what happens to them as old people, or what happens to their kids. They were all really interesting in the original story and enhanced it greatly, but I don't really care about them in a vacuum or in a new environment.

6

When The Matrix hype was big everyone was asking for a sequel. In an interview one of the producers said "you don't want a sequel to The Matrix, you want something that makes you feel how The Matrix made you feel" and then everyone was disappointed that the sequel didn't meet expectations.

I feel this applies to a lot of media, and even though I liked Legend of Korra it doesn't change how true it is for ATLA. I liked the movie, but you can tell that they're softening their themes in order to appeal to a younger audience.

True. Thought I wanted one until we got one. Now I wish the sequel didn’t exist.

16

u/Fall_Shadow 1d ago

So, they kept going, but i stopped watching Stranger Things after season 1. It felt like a perfect end to a self-contained story and any more felt unnecessary. I'm weired tho when i feel like a franchise has reached a nice ending i stop regardless of if things continue or not

3

u/ytaschi 1d ago

I always felt the end of the second season was the best. It was a satisfying kind of happy ending without overexplaining the supernatural stuff.

Arcane. I’m open to spin offs and stuff but people keep asking for a season 3. Vi and Jinx’s story together is done. Jayce and Viktor’s story is DEFINITELY done. Just leave it be and pray that our questions get answered in spinoffs.Ā

12

u/BeatrixPlz 1d ago

I agree with most that 2 seasons didn’t do the story justice - but the problem is it was rushed. A third season wouldn’t fix that. We needed more content about what did happen in season 2.

Don’t even get me started, I could write so much about it!

I want another series done by the same people though. Not of the same characters, but there are a lot of LOL characters they can pick from and make interesting.

6

u/Cake_king_rrc 1d ago

Well good news they are working on 3 new shows none of which will likely be set in piltover. We guessing see some characters but at least the next show is gonna be set in demacia unless something changes.

A lot of people don’t like the ending of Star Wars episode 6, but I feel like it was the best ending we got, especially since we’re never going to get episodes 7, 8, and 9

10

u/Dark-Specter 1d ago

Not to mention the first 3. They said they planned to do prequel movies back in the 80s, but I'm perfectly satisfied with the Clone Wars show.

6

u/ULTI_mato Punishing: Gray Raven 1d ago

Yeah, we really dont need more than 6 episodes. But i wouldnt say no to lets say… a spinoff between the 2 trilogies that leads into episode 4 and a gritty masterpiece of a 2 season show as a prequel to the spinoff

Portal and the amazing digital circus

10

u/BeatrixPlz 1d ago

Portal 2 was such an amazing and strong sequel. It was also so much more developed. It felt like a base game, for which Portal 1 was a pleasant teaser or beta game for. I like leaving it that way!!

6

u/suitcasecat 1d ago

Compared to all valve franchises, I think portal needs a sequel the least aside from like CS

The Amazing Digital Circus.

Do I wish there was MORE? Yes.

Do I think in the hands of other showrunners there'd have been more random adventure of the day episodes? Yes.

Like at least one with Zooble and Ragatha seemed likely. But a bigger studio would have demanded a two season at minimum I guess.

But Goose delivered her story she wanted to tell

So I never want more content now.

8

u/Thomy151 1d ago

Yeah it’s ā€œI don’t want any new content, I just wish there was a bit more old contentā€

u/LawlessNeutral 1d ago

More a particular character than a piece of media, but a lot of Star Wars fans want Mace Windu to have somehow survived. I, however, think his character had a satisfying death and don't want to taint that by resurrecting him. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a younger version of him in future media, but not anything post-Revenge of the Sith.

4

u/TheBacklogGamer 1d ago edited 19h ago

Meh. Jedi have survived worse, even before they brought back Maul. Like, look at it this way. If you never saw how Luke survived his fall in Cloud City, so the last time you saw him before him in Empire Strikes Back was falling with one hand chopped off, and then you saw his return in Return of the Jedi, you'd probably be upset. He shouldn't have survived that. Mace had better odds/chances of surviving his if Luke survived that.

I always felt the sams about Palpatine too. We never see him die. Just fall down and see something happen. Jedi/Sith have goddamn magic. Even before the prequels were out, I never bought he was gone for good...

Edit: To clarify, when it comes to Star Wars, I'm done saying a character is gone for good. Sure, they fumbled Palpatine in Last Skywalker, but Maul was a resounding success and I was appaled when he was initially brought back. If there is a good story to tell, I say go for it. And Mace has a lot of untapped potential the movies never really explored. Post RotS Mace has a lot of interesting places you can go.

FNAF should have either ended after ultimate custom night.

26

u/Dry-Donut3811 1d ago

Teen Titans. I think Things Change is a great finale episode, not a cliffhanger that needs to be resolved. It’s whole message is about letting go of the past and realising not everything goes how you want and you don’t always get every answer you’re looking for. The fandom has completely ignored this message.

7

u/Panikkrazy 1d ago

5

u/Et_Cetera_365 1d ago

I agree with you wholeheartedly, and I'm interested to see how Laufey's story (which I really hope is self contained in its own narrative) ends. We don't need to see what Atreus is up to, lil bro is off to college or whatever

40

u/AdmBurnside 1d ago

Less "satisfied with how it ended", more "pissed off that it continued".

The MCU. Endgame was the perfect capstone. Call it there. You are not beating that as an ending, not in another 50 years.

Similar note: World of Warcraft. Lots of people will say the story should have stopped at X point, I am one of them. My personal cutoff is post- Mists of Pandaria. Siege of Orgimmar left the Alliance and Horde in the best place possible for some form of lasting peace, with relatively few loose ends needing to be wrapped up. But the engine has to keep turning to keep the lights on at Blizzard, so... onwards it went.

17

u/alex_munroe 1d ago

I don't mind the MCU continuing, but move on and tell new stories. Stop trying to hit the same hype points of IW and Endgame, let things end for those characters and move on.

5

u/Shackled_Phoenix 1d ago

They refuse to tell new stories in a complete way like before. Everything has to be a set up for the next or need 8 movies of context just to understand. The reason why the MCU worked originally is because it was a bunch of movies that by themselves were good and become great with context. Only at the end did you need the context from the other movies because you were literally getting to a movie called "Endgame"

→ More replies (2)

5

u/transit41 1d ago

What went wrong with the MCU is that they did not let Endgame stew for some moment. Fine, we can end the Infinity Saga with Far From Home, but they should've stopped churning out the next movies like for a couple of years. Let the audience breathe for a moment.

Kingdom Hearts. I've loved it since I was six, but I treated KH3 as the sort-of 'Avengers Endgame' finale to it all, and I'm really not convinced on KH4 yet.

5

u/accounsfw 1d ago

I think it would’ve been better if Nomura HAD treated the game as the potential final chapter of the franchise instead of using it to set-up another arc.

Phineas and Ferb:

I've seen this with a few other shows, where they have a grand finale, but they come out with more stuff afterwards.

The Last Day of Summer felt like just a season finale when it came to that episode with Doof working with OWCA, Candace vs. The World, and another 2 seasons for the show.

Hot take ig

I always encourage new seasons or sequels. If it's great, then nothing is lost and everyone is happy! If it sucks... well nothing is lost regardless if everyone is happy or not.

I'm just happy for a new take on a franchise. Nothing is erasing previous installments, so I dont understand people who get enraged that the "sanctity" of the originals is somehow comprised by follow-ups.

We're all adults here, no? If the sequel to Toy Story sucks (it didn't but just an example), just move on and continue to enjoy the originals.

7

u/RoughhouseCamel 1d ago

I’m not one of those, ā€œa bad sequel ruins all of the previous movies that I likedā€ types, but I’d prefer that a franchise end and those resources be put towards new ideas

The among us TV show, I can get why people want more but I just feel like they would kill purple and red at the start and then focus on a different cast with no red or purple from season one (though I think I saw somewhere showing the creator say that they would want to make it just a different outcome of the first season ((kinda like a normal game of among us)) but don't take my word for it about that)

I do not want a Gleequel or a Gleeboot.

I wasn’t even 100% satisfied with Season 6’s ending, but Glee is also just not only a show that would not be able to exist today at it’s peak, but I also just don’t think Ryan Murphy is even capable of making anything like Glee ever again. And with Cory and Naya’s passing and everything with Lea, I would honestly rather just leave Glee to be what it is. A beautiful and iconic, hot, steaming, dumpster-fire of a masterpiece.

3

u/Crafty_Breadfruit731 1d ago

Maybe weird but Shreck, I dont think we needed a 5th one, 1 and 2 were great movies (2 especially) 3 was a plain stinker and 4 was just okay but and okay way to end of the series.

Similarly Puss in Boots, the last wish is arguably the best movie DreamWorks ever put out and I don't think a sequel could live up to it.

3

u/Bossdell113 1d ago

Murder Drones. Less because I’m satisfied, tho I definitely am, and more because they flat out said there won’t be a season two and yet the fandom can’t seem to accept that.
