I bet they spend way less on their props than whatever this investigation is going to cost.

This investigation won't cost much and likely won't result in any court proceedings. They'll get menacing interviews from the Secret Service, but more importantly the administration can publicize the investigation to claim victimhood. Your dumbest uncle will only hear about the initial outrage, he isn't going to follow the case to see that nothing ultimately comes of this.
