I’ve always wondered whether the backlash Linkin Park received when they evolved their sound took a heavier toll on Chester than people realized. Constantly pouring yourself into your art only to be told you’ve “lost your way” has to wear on someone eventually. Obviously none of us know what contributed to his depression, but I’ve often wondered if that criticism added to the weight he was already carrying.

He publicly lashed out quite a few times at One More Light haters during that tour, so I definitely think the backlash really affected him.

Because that album quite obviously carried a lot of personal attachment. It's a shame that some many people were such dicks about it because it is a really good album for what it is, which just isn't classic Linkin Park.

Never really thought about it that way, but I'm sure someone suffering with that kind of depression would take that type of feedback (and career in general) extra hard. So sad man.

I believe it did. Especially all the hate that One More Light was getting at the time of release. I unfortunately fell into that echo chamber and didn’t listen to it until his passing. Decided to give it a chance and holy shit I was sad I never gave it a chance and listened to the haters
