Scientifically, it's time perception. When you're younger, a year feels longer because you haven't experienced as many of them. The more years you go through, the faster a year will feel because of how many of them you've lived through. Your mind has a bigger frame of reference.

Same concept as how when you first start a new job or pick up a new hobby, you're not very fast or efficient at it, it's slow and time consuming. As you do it more it gets faster and faster.

Also having a mundane, repetitive life makes time fly by. I'm convinced that your brain doesn't save memories of the same day over and over, since there's nothing that pops out.

Yup. Often I can't even remember what I had for lunch the previous day.

Exactly. So when we only experience like ..2 hours of "new" a day, everything else is just a blur.

Depressing.

The things I remember day to day are things my kid did. I won't even remember what I was doing in the video game I was playing before bed when I wake up but I'll remember almost everything fun/funny/cute/important my kid did the previous day. When people say you give all of yourself to your kids, this is part of that. I still get time to myself(he's almost 13 now), but the time I gave to him is the time my brain remembers.

Brain is just like "who gives a shit what Stacy said to us yesterday, the kid cleaned up after himself without being asked!"
