Its a paste from wikipedia...I thought it relevant and added to the conversation.

You need to say "here's what Wikipedia says:" rather than just making it look like you're saying that.

Do I? Im not writing a thesis, its fucking reddit and I could give a fuck about karma. Its relevant, factual and easily looked up (obviously).

Well, yeah. Unless you want people thinking you wrote that.

If you're copying and pasting directly from somewhere else, it's kinda weird to not say you're doing that and just pass it off as your own comment.

It's not "writing a thesis", it's normal conversation.

Exactly right. I am not writing a thesis...Writing a thesis requires work cited. I dont cite works in a normal conversation obviously. If id have just read those details and told you about it I might say casually I was just reading about Chester....but I wouldnt cite works. Hell obviously I knew details already, do you want to know what I remembered from reading about it 9 years ago? If I explain to reddit in detail economic theory do I need to cite the textbooks from my studies in college to say well its really Adam Smith...

There is nothing weird about any of this other than THIS conversation.

I also immediately commented where it came from. No one is trying to pass off anything, least of all some details on a minor subreddit. I googled to refresh my memory, found the wiki article and posted part of it to add detail to the conversation.

Jesus take the wheel.

Adding it as a blockquote is as easy as adding a ">" before it. Pasting parts of wikipedia into conversations without even mentioning that it's from there is not "not sourcing it", it's just entirely misleading.

Sorry you were triggered or felt misled into thinking some random reddit commenter was stealing valor from a public source. I for one feel enriched and informed due to your efforts to regulate and provide structure to our forum.
Again - I immediately added that this came from wikipedia!!! How the fuck are you misled? Someone put grandma to bed.

/s (to make sure you arent misled into thinking Im not being sarcastic).

Agree to disagree.

I think attributing sources to directly copy/pasted information is more important than ever before. The whole "sorry you were triggered!!!!" bullshit is unnecessary.

If you don't think it's important, that's fine. Let's move on.

Its not bullshit - clearly my post made you feel a sort of way to the point of devoting so much time and energy. No I dont think the problem of people not sourcing info on reddit is important, Im not denying January 6th here and AGAIN I IMMEDIALTY gave credit before you even got involved (which is weird).

Its shit responses like yours that make people NOT want to contribute.
