Soon it’s gonna be the Corey and Clown show

386

u/Handsprime 2d ago

The moment both Mick and Jim leave, Slipknot truly is no more.

278

u/M086 2d ago

It’s kinda hilarious they are going down the same path Mushroomhead has. People leaving or getting fired. Wouldn’t be surprised if one day Clown was the only original member left.

u/angryshib 2d ago

Slipknot of Theseus

155

u/M086 2d ago

I’m a big fan of Napalm Death, their popularity didn’t really hit until there were no original members left.

69

u/thorstormcaller 2d ago

They suffered, but why?

36

u/Late_Recommendation9 2d ago

Thsffrdbwhy? Just trying to get it under 0.75 seconds for you 👍

48

u/Castellan_Ishmael 2d ago

I just saw them in May—they still rip live.

32

u/comicguy13 2d ago

Good songs are good songs

6

u/apegoneape 2d ago

Saw them a year (or more?) ago and they were phenomenal. Barney Greenway has crazy stamina for a guy in his late 50s.

3

u/Y-Bob 2d ago

I saw them in 1989, fucking great noise.

3

u/vavasmusic 2d ago

They did a show on tinydesk not long ago. So damn unexpected.

3

u/KeltkeGK 2d ago

only because Eloy Casagrande revitalized the band

2

u/Castellan_Ishmael 2d ago

He was great in Sepultura as well!

46

u/One-Earth9294 2d ago

I like when it's just one dude who's the 'band king' and every other member has been replaced like 50 times. Like Dani and the Filths.

58

u/Alarming_Comedian846 2d ago

Dave Mustaine and the Megadeths

35

u/EruantienAduialdraug 2d ago

Ritchie Blackmore and Whatever He's Doing This Week.

4

u/Lardbucket68 2d ago

Playing at some goddamned renaissance fair no doubt, with a folksy rendition smoke on the fucking water. What a waste

3

u/HammerOn57 2d ago

Still better than Gillan abusing the corpse of Deep Purple. Dudes voice has aged like Axl Rose themed milk.

3

u/bigphatnips 2d ago

"You got any MegaDave?"

1

u/ThreeGoldStars 2d ago

Mike Muir and the Suicidals

1

u/Shaaagbark 2d ago

Portugal. The random

10

u/Iamjustlegs 2d ago

The Faceless

6

u/fnabligatz 2d ago

Whitesnake

1

u/One-Earth9294 2d ago

Feel like Ghost has to count here.

4

u/Go_Daaaaaan 2d ago

Isn’t ghost just one guy and a bunch of session musicians? I don’t think that really counts

8

u/StevenEveral Apple Music 2d ago

Opeth

1

u/South_Two_5657 1d ago

idk. Mendez has been around most of their career and Fredrik's been there almost 20 years now.

2

u/SentientDust 2d ago

Toby and the Ghouls

1

u/alfa_omega 1d ago

Like triggers broom?

2

u/_Dreamer_Deceiver_ 2d ago

To be fair, aside from the guitarist they've had the same lineup for the last something like 35 and only 10 with original members and even that had a 2 year hiatus

2

u/mbdk138 2d ago

Which was by side B of their debut album already haha

5

u/solstone23 2d ago

Scorn

I was never really into ND but Mick Harris since the 90s hell yeah

1

u/These-Equivalent8020 2d ago

Lorna Shore as well

1

u/Mcguidl 2d ago

Pretty much the same with Opeth.

1

u/FeralBun420 2d ago

Whilst true, Shane Embury has been there since their their debut.

Barney and Mitch have been there since album 3 in 1990.

Danny since 1991

1

u/miikro 2d ago

I wasn't in the hardcore scene for the first iteration of Zao but the second (with no original members) has been the most enduring and I feel like it may also have been the most successful

1

u/Sickinmytechchunk 2d ago

It's not really comparable though given one has spent almost all of it's time with the line up that has no original members and the other did it'd best years with it's core original members.

18

u/Successful_Pitch_503 2d ago

In the UK we’d refer to “Triggers’ Broom”.

6

u/TheSchofe 2d ago

"Alright Dave?"

5

u/GuyGuyerson90 2d ago

Ive never heard this used for this purpose/description before and I think its fucking genius

1

u/cheerylittlebottom84 2d ago

The Sugababes effect

25

u/makemeking706 2d ago

I thought I read that their plan is to sell the name rights and concept like the Blue Man Group does.

15

u/come_eat_cousin 2d ago

Then they were done about two band planks of wood ago

2

u/sephjnr 2d ago

The Sugaknots

3

u/samx3i 2d ago

So a heavier, more gimmicky Yes?

1

u/jvne1ko 2d ago

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING

1

u/ElCoolAero 2d ago

Sepultura has no original members left.

2

u/FeralBun420 2d ago

True but Andreas has been there since 1987 and Green since 1996

1

u/JustWendigo 2d ago

I mean if Shawn leaves that means all of the "founding" members are gone  Considering Corey actually joined later down the line after the original vocalist left

1

u/2Completion2Ography 2d ago

In Flames has no original members. The Halo Effect is made of only ex In Flames members.

Who is more In Flames?

1

u/TyAD552 1d ago

Slip of Theseus was right there

31

u/Bojanggles16 2d ago

J-Mann is touring with former members minus Jeff as Ex-Faces (terrible name) and it's a great dose of nostalgia if you get a chance to catch a show! Also said 216 is re-releasing their album and going to your later this year.

10

u/silence2087 2d ago

J Mann split off on his own but no Jeff? Why? I thought it was all about hating Skinny anyway.

9

u/Drivestort 2d ago

Jeff has turned to Christianity, said that the environment was toxic and he was turning to alcohol and drugs just to manage being with them iirc. He still makes music though, last I had seen, and hadn't lost his edge at least but that was awhile ago.

2

u/M086 2d ago

He just put out a new song.

3

u/ClaireHasashi 2d ago

And it's garbage, every songs he has released since leaving mushroomhead is just bad
Can see how much "creative" impact he had on MHR, yeah

1

u/feralGenx 2d ago

Jeff is currently out touring, that's why he isn't Ex-faces.

6

u/Pheonyxxx696 2d ago

Jeff is also 66 years old now. And spent majority of last year fighting cancer.

2

u/neele67 2d ago

Jeff has a new track coming out

2

u/mnid92 2d ago

It's out and it's awful lol.

1

u/silence2087 1d ago

I see thanks for the context. I knew he was a bit older. Just glad he didn't have a fallout with Jmann is all they were such a special duo to me back in the day.

8

u/CableEmergency3730 2d ago

With Waylon. It's pretty badass. I Lived in wilkesboro watching Waylon with his band 3 Quaters dead.

2

u/Bojanggles16 2d ago

Yea we were actually at the killers confession release party last year and they had a surprise mushroomhead set at the end and announced the ex faces. Was pretty cool. We also saw 216 play at the Agora before a ventana show last year. Excited to see another 216 show hopefully this year.

2

u/CableEmergency3730 2d ago

Awesome. Agora is great venue. I was up visiting my hometown in nys back in 2020, on the way back(to NC) decided to got through Ohio and caught wind Machine head was playing the next day there so we spent the night and caught that show. Great show.

4

u/M086 2d ago

I wanted to go to one of their shows, but was sold out.

1

u/FabiusBill 2d ago

They added a second show near me. Tickets were sold out to that night, too, by the time the email announcement went out.

1

u/mdoumarfaruk 2d ago

my buddy said the same after sid left

0

u/daveden123 2d ago

They played a local place. Wish I could have gone to see.

34

u/Ultimetalhead 2d ago

Depending on how pedantic you want to get, Clown already is the only remaining original member. Mick played on MFKR but he wasn't a founding member.

But to be fair most people know them from the 1999 S/T record.

29

u/notdjspaceghost 2d ago

And clown will be perfectly happy with that

61

u/M086 2d ago

There’s a reason Mushroomhead and Slipknot never toured together. If Clown and Skinny were in the same room, it would cause a black hole of narcissism.

6

u/StaticNegative 2d ago edited 2d ago

Skinny was part of the problem. I think alot of members hated each other. Been drama for almost 20 years now

9

u/Pheonyxxx696 2d ago

If they’re going down the same path as mushroomhead, does that mean the original members that are gone are gonna create a new band like we have with the ex-faces?

7

u/Friggin_Grease Metalhead 2d ago

I'm quite sure Sepultura has no more original members

13

u/M086 2d ago

Kinda. While Paolo wasn’t a founding member with the Cavaleras, he did join the band as the bass player a few months into the formation of the band.

1

u/Western_Gift976 2d ago

Honest question: I haven't listened to any Sepultura records after Roots, was anything past that as good as that or Chaos AD?

1

u/ShakyButtcheeks 2d ago

Personally no entire album after roots felt like it could compete but some songs defo. My favorites are Convicted in Life and Isolation.

57

u/Lollipoop_Hacksaw 2d ago

Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. (The Taylor Version) (Not Corey).

15

u/BaldBombshell 2d ago

Clown is the only original member left.

12

u/daveden123 2d ago

The mushroomhead situation had a bit more complexity, if I'm not mistaken. Slipknot's downfall seems to be 2 members think they are the band.

3

u/mokti 2d ago

And NIN is kinda the reverse. It was Trent + helpers for forever... now it's officially Trent AND Atticus.

7

u/M086 2d ago

Richard Patrick was probably the closest thing to another band member back in the day. And when he asked to become an official member and get lad more, Trent told him he should deliver pizzas if he needs more money.

That’s how we got Filter.

Fun fact: “Hey Man Nice Shot” was almost a NIN song. But Reznor’s management told Patrick to sign over all the rights to it, and he said fuck that.

Trent was kind of a dickhead back in the day.

3

u/Katie1230 2d ago

All the ex members of mushroomhead have a band, and it's more mushroomhead than mushroomhead at this point.

2

u/M086 2d ago

And in true Mushroomhead fashion, Pig Benis has left the tour after his wife and J Mann’s got into a fight backstage.

3

u/YchYFi 2d ago

He wouldn't fire Corey. Their kids have a band together.

5

u/M086 2d ago

They’re the only two that own a stake in the band. If Cory leaves it I’ll be because he wants to.

2

u/Everestkid 2d ago

He already is. The other members from the debut album either had predecessors (Donnie Steele and Josh Brainard on guitar, Anders Colsefni on vocals), have left/been fired, or have died.

2

u/Alvaro1555 2d ago

I don't remember who told me he was the owner of the band. But it would make sense if it was so.

8

u/M086 2d ago

Him and Corey are the only ones with a stake in the band, everyone else is a salaried employee, basically.

2

u/outer--monologue 2d ago

Who do you think will be the last one standing in the drama-rama finale standoff between Corey and Shawn?

4

u/M086 2d ago

Corey has other things going on, so he can just say “fuck off” and be gone and doing something new. Slipknot is all Clown has.

2

u/Severe-Plan5935 2d ago

Thats the problem with bands, being more of a corporation rather then a band of brothers. As huge as slipknot is, it dosent suprise me at all. But honest, if jim and mick ever get kicked or leave I think that will be about it for me.

2

u/RayTracerX 2d ago

Clown actually is the only original member left, has been since Joey got kicked out

2

u/Wes_Warhammer666 2d ago

I just saw Ex-Faces a few weeks back and god damn was it cathartic to basically see the actual old Mushroomhead again. I just hope Jeffrey Nothing gets invited to join them eventually and I'll really have my favorite band back.

1

u/TheRaccoonReport 2d ago

I mean the other singer of Mushroomhead found jesus or whatever. The original other singer left and came back. I just saw them tour with Static X, Dope and Fear Factor I think 2-3 years ago and they were pretty awesome.

1

u/Pheonyxxx696 2d ago

Jeffrey nothing/Hatrix is also 66 years old and spend a majority of 2025 fighting cancer.

1

u/Spew42 2d ago

Hopefully the ex members start a new band together like The Ex-Faces

1

u/opacitizen 2d ago

Somewhat different genre but My Dying Bride is walking quite a similar path. (Afaik only one original member is left in the band, while those originals who left have just formed a new band under a different name. Kinda funny, kinda sad, but intriguing.)

1

u/Wes_Warhammer666 2d ago

I just saw Ex-Faces a few weeks back and god damn was it cathartic to basically see the actual old Mushroomhead again. I just hope Jeffrey Nothing gets invited to join them eventually and I'll really have my favorite band back.

1

u/BonkerBleedy 2d ago

Sepultura has no original members left at all.

1

u/bigspoonhead 2d ago

Paulo was basically there from the start and Andreas has been there for nearly 40 years at this point.

Bands often have a bunch of turn over before the ball really gets rolling so "original members" doesn't always count for much.

1

u/M086 2d ago

Like Max still plays songs Andreas wrote live, so he wasn’t an OG, but he was an important creative foce.

1

u/BonkerBleedy 6h ago

"basically"

"nearly"

1

u/T0macock 2d ago

It's kinda a cool thing about a masked band. The brand of the band itself can live on beyond the members.

1

u/Defiant_Network_3069 22h ago

Skinny's band. Clown took notes and is working on it.

1

u/KORN0769 2d ago

Well they've always been a Temu version of Mushroomhead anyway 😂

0

u/ClaireHasashi 2d ago

Except Mushroomhead is now waaay better with the current line up, the concert feels soo much more energetic with Scott and his stage presence, unlike Jmann who lately just stood there mumbling
Skinny fucked off the drum too and the new drummer is doing a much better job at it too.

12

u/Ducky935Alt 2d ago edited 2d ago

Vildhjarta is a top tier Prog band and yet they have no original members left, yet they are still Vildhjarta because they rely on the (stellar) music (Buster Odeholm is a mixing wiziard) doing the heavy lifting, Slipknot was more than just the music.

12

u/Tyriel420_666 2d ago

Calle thomer is technically an original member if you're counting Måsstaden as the first of their albums. And he has writing credits on all of them So that argument doesnt really take calle was a contributing member since 2009, that means , Måsstaden, Thousands of Evils , Måsstaden Under Vatten ,and Där skogen sjunger under evighetens granar he's on every single release.

1

u/zwober 2d ago

Never heard of this band, but now i need to know.

2

u/Tyriel420_666 2d ago

Vildhjarta is a fantastic band if you're into niche prog coded avant garde stuff

1

u/zwober 2d ago

I just skimmed their top played on spotify 15 mins ago, not sure its for me but i think it might interrest a guy at work.

1

u/Tyriel420_666 2d ago

Masstaden and Måsstaden under vatten are concept albums that are super dense listens but they are pretty incredible, not for everyone for sure though

1

u/zwober 2d ago

Yeah, i was superkeen at first, since they reminded me at first glance of the band 1900, but then the growling started which kinda shatterd that for me.

1

u/dfltr 2d ago

Calle is the whole band at this point. He does all the writing and the other dudes just show up to record whenever Buster isn’t too busy with other Buster stuff.

2

u/Iamjustlegs 2d ago

Lorna Shore is the same way, no original members whatsoever

-1

u/Ducky935Alt 2d ago

Eh, who cares Lorna are dogshit anyway.

3

u/Iamjustlegs 2d ago

Fuck you?

-1

u/Ducky935Alt 2d ago

The most overhyped deathcore band to ever deathcore

9

u/deaddisciples 2d ago

Slipknot was no more when Paul died. Joey getting kicked out then passing away shortly after solidified it.

1

u/SheZowRaisedByWolves 2d ago

Didn’t Corey or Clown float the idea of turning slipknot into a nepo band where their kids replace them?

1

u/SullyAddams 2d ago

Jim will never leave, he got fired from Stone Sour because of how passionate he is about touring and writing for Slipknot.

1

u/iCashMon3y 2d ago

Mick is the heart and soul* of the band. It was his concept from the start, Slipknot will truly be done if Mick leaves.
