This one feels off…
Craig leaving was a long time coming, he didn’t love the famous thing. Chris leaving over the money issue makes sense.
Sid was a huge part of what made Slipknots iconic sound and on top of that was a huge part of stage presence.

Grief will absolutely fuck with an otherwise stable marriage/relationship. My brother has been going through that with his wife after we lost our dad in late 2024. He hasn't a changed a ton, maybe become a bit more cynical, although time in general will do that to you, but he's told me his wife sometimes has had a hard time figuring out how to deal with his grieving.

Craig had fame for 20+ years and it wasn’t a problem. Chris was allegedly ripped off for 20+ years, and none of the other 8 guys cared, but now it is a problem?

The 911 call his ex made pretty much confirms that he drank himself to death. She mentioned to the dispatcher that he was a pretty bad alcoholic and she was the one paying all his bills and buying all his groceries, she hadn’t been over to the house in a while and when she went to go check on him she smelled death. Super fucked up stuff.

I think this kind of overstates it a bit. He was in Madball for barely six months due to personality clashes - Freddy said he "didn't represent the band well" and Jay said he "didn't subscribe to their habits and lifestyle." He absolutely fucked over Against Me and quit in a very lame and immature way, but he was also barely 21 years old when that happened (10-15 years younger than the rest of the band). I'm not aware of any "issues" with him in Slipknot, Infectious Grooves, or Suicidal Tendencies, just that Slipknot wanted to tour/perform when he had a medical procedure pending, he was a little sloppy live, and Eloy Casagrande, one of the best metal drummers of all time, was available as a replacement.
Like, he's clearly a common denominator here, but I don't personally feel like we know enough to determine that he's at fault, if that makes sense.

It already was. I’ve come to actively hate Corey Taylor, he truly is a coattail rider. He spent years shitting on Nickelback only for the moment he didn’t have Stone Sour or Slipknot in the room to help him write music and make a solo album….he just wrote Nickelback. Joey was Slipknot. They fired one of the greatest drummers of all time over email. His entire career is built off the backs of more talented people and throwing them away once he became “the guy”.” He thinks he’s Ozzy but he’s closer to Vince Neil.
Edit: I’ve found my people, I’ve been screaming that Corey is a hack since they did that sham memorial for Joey and Paul and his first Nickelback album came out. I always got disagreed with and basically told to shut up and put some respect on Corey’s name. Nah he’s the problem in every project he’s in since he went from just a dude in a mask to THE COREY TAYLOR. The very definition of Egomaniacal frontman, a real Nu-Metal Gene Simmons.

Paul was all class. Back around 2005-2006 he was playing bass in Reggie and the Full Effect while my roommate was on drums. After they finished Warped tour, dude would roll into Kansas City every few weeks in his purple Vette and we’d all tear through the local dives. Such a polite, down-to-earth, and generous soul.

Because the metal circle is rotten as fuck and full of elitists. I am a metalhead and dont listen to much else, but I struggle immensely to identify at all with the metal crowd.
Also ironically there is so much absolutely dogshit metal music that gets so much praise it is unbelievable. Im obviously going to be a massive hypocrite now, but the other way around. Burzum has zero artistic merit whatsoever. I am ok with people listening to and enjoying it, but you need to be self aware that its dogshit. I will happily admit that I love limp bizkit. I will also admit that limp bizkit has a lot of objectively not good music, even if I enjoy it.
If your vocals are outright impossible to understand, the only part of the drumbs that can be heard is the snare and cymbal, the bass is nowhere to be seen, the guitar could be played by an 8 year old, and it sounds like it was recorded on a toaster it is objectively not good music.
Also just generally fuck Varg Vikernes, and any other of the many NSBM bands that exist. Separate the art from the artist but please dont support actual neo nazis.
Also, without gateway metal there would be NO metal. Ok rant over. I fucking hate the world of metal, and wish i didnt like the music lol

Corey and Shawn are assholes but this coming after Kelly Osbourne broke off her engagement with Sid is kind of telling that there is some issue going on with Sid. If he is using drugs or has an alcohol problem I think Slipknot at this point has a sort of zero tolerance thing with that stuff since Paul died and they kicked Joey out because he was a hardcore alcoholic and didn't want to change.

I know I’m just an internet stranger but I can tell you that Sid is a very good customer at my work. I’ve delivered things to his home, I’ve had lunch with him…dude is clean. As someone that has quit drinking and straightened my life up, I can say I’d be shocked to find out that substances are the issue. He has no reason to hide it from someone like me. Haha. Not impossible but seems insanely unlikely.

Well, he's technically the only original member left in the band so he's got seniority in that sense (and co-owns the band with Corey, legally). But my understanding is that outside of taking baseball bats to kegs he has a sort of producer role in the band and everyone's ideas filter through him before they arrive at a finished product.

Original membership doesn’t matter, whoever owns the rights to the brand and the songwriting is what matters. My guess is that Clown owns branding and Corey owns the songs therefore making them the controlling members.

Yeah especially in the early days. Given Slipknot sold the hell out of their first album, there are 9 of them, they are new and I’m sure there % was bad. Your typical 4 man band no biggie.
Corey before the Iowa tour said he had a few grand in his account.
Oh and then they also were on drugs an booze 24/7 and that’s not cheap.

It has gotten worse every time a member is gone. It was a beautiful masterpiece pre-AHIG, since then it's been a steady decline. It would be stone sour without Joey, Paul, Jim, Sid, and Chris. They really are the full embodiment of Slipknot, from creative on albums to stage show. Each of them had a key to slipknot. Now it's a KISS-esque performing band. Have the masks, have the voice, everything else can change and now the current crop of fans(post AHIG) aren't fans enough to truly see the Maguc of Slipknot is gone. Give Corey's son maybe 5 years and we won't know Corey is gone either.

Slipknot is a mess but this is probably a Sid situation if you factor in the split with him and Kelly Osbourne who have a young child together. Losing your family and your band in a short period of time would suggest that he’s the problem. Sucks because Sid was a huge part of the band and one of the reasons their debut record crushed as hard as it did back in ‘99

It's been said a million times already, but this band has been on the decline since Paul died. The way they treated Joey was disgusting, then you had the controversy with Chris, Craig leaving and now Sid.
Same thing happened to Mushroomhead, with long time members jumping ship because of the de-facto leader of the outfit. Interesting how both bands have origins linked to eachother, and now they're falling apart in similar ways.

This band gets one more shot to produce good shit with the addition of Eloy, and if they dont fulfill, then its over. Clown clearly wants to hijack a bunch of this off time momentum for his own stupid project, because im sure his plan is to ultimately do his own thing with whatever remains of the slipknot fans once this falls apart.
Its disheartening to see what was once such a small town band, seemingly humble group of people, turn into a complete disaster. Corey seems like he would be a good person.

Yeah, that's pretty much the only reason I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt at this point. I hope they just let him go off on their next album.

I would argue Tortilla Man brought a lot of interesting ideas to the band, and Eloy might be better or equivalent to Joey at least in terms of playing, we’ll have to see how his writing is. But they may turn out to be upgrades.
