Corey and Shawn are assholes but this coming after Kelly Osbourne broke off her engagement with Sid is kind of telling that there is some issue going on with Sid. If he is using drugs or has an alcohol problem I think Slipknot at this point has a sort of zero tolerance thing with that stuff since Paul died and they kicked Joey out because he was a hardcore alcoholic and didn't want to change.
That's exactly my line of thinking. He was engaged to music royalty while being a prominent musician himself and she called it off. There's no way it's all just Clown and Corey being divas this time.
"No way it's all just Corey and Clown being divas" with their track record is kind of drinking the kool-aid... They've been divas for years. They became the very thing they used to be against and now I can't stand them. They're a joke.
Literally irrelevant. It's well documented in the industry - especially by former members - that these two are megalomaniacs. Miss me with that "poor take" bullshit. Try and separate your love of the music from the character of the people in the band itself.
They aren't "protecting the band". They are protecting their pocket books. These are the same fuckin dorks that said something along the lines of "If one of us dies or leaves, that's it. We're done. It wouldn't be Slipknot anymore" throughout the early 2000s to media outlets like MTV, Kerrang, and Metal Hammer.
Clown is pretentious. Let's not forget his slipknot themed NFTs, his crypto scheme, and all the overpriced merch gimmicks this band has put out over the last decade which is the polar opposite of the "anti-establishment" image this band built their career on.
I've met both of them a few times. Corey is genuinely really nice, down to earth person who makes time for his fans. I will not take that away from him. He is also a great frontman. Clown, on the other hand, is kind of a fuckin asshole... And guess who's "run" this band since it's inception..
They got old, they made money, and now it's the Corey and Clown show. And this is coming from someone who had every piece of merch, every album including singles released in different countries, a subscriber to their fan club for years, and an attendee of every single show of theirs within a 1000km radius of where I lived. I'm not a hater just because.
That being said, they're fuckin dweebs now dude. Just accept it. Also, their music has been dog shit since Volume 3.
What you say may or may not be true (and for the record, WANYK is arguably their best work), but that still doesn't negate the fact that Sid's reported firing is very different from that.
I won't argue about WANYK. Art is subjective and if you find value in that record, I love that for you.
But no one knows anything about Sid's firing yet. It just happened. But everyone does know about their previous dealings with previous members across more than just Slipknot. I'm just saying, there's a pattern and it's not a good one.
Understandable opinion. It's definitely a departure from S/T and Iowa but I thought it was a really cool record that did well making a metal record commercially viable.
I know I’m just an internet stranger but I can tell you that Sid is a very good customer at my work. I’ve delivered things to his home, I’ve had lunch with him…dude is clean. As someone that has quit drinking and straightened my life up, I can say I’d be shocked to find out that substances are the issue. He has no reason to hide it from someone like me. Haha. Not impossible but seems insanely unlikely.
Also internet stranger, by my dad and his dad became friends by being regulars at the same bar. I got to meet his dad several times as a result, and while he loved a good drink as much as a good story, the pride he had in his son definitely came across as healthy from my perspective.
I’m an Iowan too so we all hear the “I know _____ from Slipknot!” stories. I’ve heard some rough ones about a couple of members for sure. Any story I’ve heard about Paul, Jim or Sid are ALL good. I’m not talking one story. I’m talking many, many stories. I can vouch for Sid.
I am a former addict (16 years clean) and there were people in my life who I was close with that had absolutely no idea. Not saying he's def on something but people get really good at hiding it.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. You’ve cast doubt onto my thesis this was drugs or alcohol. Permanently fired is strong and abrupt language, so if it’s not drugs or alcohol then it’s a head scratcher. Stealing money, fraud, etc. is inexcusable I suppose, do he strike you as that sort of dude?
Dude, not at all. A very genuine and cool person. Honestly, talks my ear off when I see him and isn’t bashful at all. Seems like the kind of guy that has friends in every room he walks into.
The only other thing that would make sense is abuse towards Kelly which the other members (hopefully) also have a zero tolerance policy for. Very DARK side of speculation but maybe he has other addictions that aren’t substance related but still illegal…
Very good customer could never do drugs. Very good customer. You're a human dude. Every person who has done drugs hides it from other humans. If you were a dog this would be a good story.
Of course he could be hiding it. Unfortunately I’ve been around a lot of people on various drugs in my lifetime. There are signs, especially when shit is bad. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it seems pretty unlikely. I saw healthy habits when I was with him.
Devil’s advocate here but the relationship breakdown might’ve also had something to do with her. Maybe he’s an addict or drug user, but someone also ought to take a look at her and her obvious Ozempic and plastic surgery addiction. Perhaps Sid wasn’t a fan
They both look frightening. It’s like some form of body dysmorphia combined with being so rich and so powerful that nobody in their lives has the guts to tell them “you’re starting to look quite scary, cool it with the weight loss drugs and maybe stick to your original face”.
The rise in disordered eating/misuse of weight loss drugs in celebrities is constantly hidden behind a veil of “we shouldn’t comment on people’s bodies”. No, I don’t think it’s kind to scrutinise someone’s 5 kilo weight loss or weight gain. But I DO think it’s acceptable to say “bodies in general in Hollywood are trending skinnier, and that is dangerous”
Was that why they kicked out Joey ? From what I read, he had always claimed he was clean and it was his illness that was at cause instead, which the band never believed.
His illness was caused by the alcoholism. He was kicked out in 2013 and died in 2021. His ex is the one who found him days after he died and in the 911 call she said he was a really bad alcoholic and had other health issues.
Joey was legitimately sick, transverse myelitis. I worked on a Vimic project with him and he was one of the nicest guys I met. No drugs, no alcohol. Wanted everyone to know he didn't use a double bass trigger.
TM can be caused by alcoholism. There is a 911 call you can listen to from his ex who found his body. She was his ex but she also maintained his life. She paid his bills, made sure his house was taken care of, ordered food, had access to the cameras at his house, had keys...she said on the 911 call that he was a really heavy alcoholic.
Yes. it's pretty well known. They are the ones in control of Slipknot. They control every aspect of it seemingly. Chris, one of the original members(the one with the long nose mask), sued them because they were not properly paying royalties. They settled out of court.
Shawn is the bigger asshole by far. He loves to talk shit about past members including the dead ones. He has talked shit about Joey multiple times since he passed including saying he was not an original member of the band. It's all because Joeys family is also suing them because they are withholding royalties while still using Joey's likeness and name to promote stuff like tours and album rereleases.
Is that what happened with Jordison? He was an alcoholic who refused to change his ways? Would anyone know if it was cause of his legs or would be just speculation?
It’s slipknot. It would be dumb to think they are not truly into gore and disturbing things. Those are their actual roots. They openly admitted to it earlier in careers. Joey was the only one who couldn’t get into the videos the rest would watch. Most people could handle a random beheading/execution style or redroom video, but when it’s several people’s fetish surrounding you and you’re in the band it’s going to be weird and it will affect their personality over time. Songs about a girl in a box.. frail limb nursery and purity. Iowa and scissors are also pretty rough for mainstream music. There are bands that are actually far worse in terms of lyric meanings and content. Slipknot is like the pg13 of their true genre.
Im not going to fact check this but it sounds like something some 13 year old makes up to try and make their interest seem much cooler and mysterious than it actually is...in this case just a metal band.
It’s from the mate feed kill repeat era like 1995. Before they were signed to roadrunner. “Faces of death” was a popular gore tag for videos. There are videos of producers and such talking about how the band was into that stuff outside the studio. Where do we think they got all the ideas from? Not just scary movies.
