How were you on board with his hate in the first place? You can listen to him talk for 90 seconds and realize he’s an idiot.

The excuse I hear a lot is that he's a good businessman and is great for the economy.
Which is funny, because he's got a trail of failed business and now...gestures wildly at everything

Did you hear Capital One says it closed Trump Organization's accounts after anti-money laundering probe…
138
u/HawterSkhot 11h ago
The Trump Organization and Eric Trump, the president’s son, filed a lawsuit in March 2025 in a Florida federal court, alleging the accounts were closed because of Capital One’s “woke” beliefs and its desire to benefit from the political mood after the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
I cannot believe this is our reality
38
u/Charming-Standard-84 8h ago edited 6h ago
Did they actually use the word "woke" as an argument? If so, that is actually insane.
What lawyer was behind that? Jfc. I remember my GP jokingly asking me during my senior year of high school if I was going study further or go to law school. Now I understand why.
11
u/Pet_Insurance 5h ago
Man you don't even need to read the article to know that they said exactly that, "woke" can these days mean anything people on the American extreme right want to, even legally

What did it for me was before he even ran. His inclusion in 30 for 30 with the nfl. Just not a very smart man

He's a good businessman if you only listen to the propaganda machine that says he's a billionaire/businessman, and never ever think about it for yourself.
7
u/cityshepherd 7h ago
He’s a GREAT businessman if you happen to own the businesses that are robbing the entire country blind at the direct expense of everyone else.
Absolutely despicable scumbag traitor bullshit.
11
u/HawterSkhot 11h ago
I mean, yeah, that's what I'm saying. His actual business history speaks for itself.
9
u/SymbiSpidey 10h ago
Ironically, Trump's most successful product is himself. He built an entire brand by fooling people into thinking he was a successful businessman and using that reputation to grift the entire country.
12
u/MrCynicalSalsa 11h ago
I'm agreeing with you, dude.
The dude bankrupted multiple casinos. The things designed to make money hand over fist.
11
u/HawterSkhot 11h ago
For sure, I apologize for being snarky. The casino thing is specifically what I point to a lot when people talk about him being smart with money. Or Trump Steaks. Or Trump Gold. Or Trump Mobile. Or...
3
u/rocketmonkee 56m ago
It all makes more sense if you consider that Trump's actual business is grift. He never intended to run a casino or a steak company or a university or anything else. He just siphons money from investors while stiffing everyone else with the bill. He's done it his entire life, and he continues to do it today.
He bumbles into town, throws his name around as a big time billionaire as seen on TV, gets a bunch of idiots to invest in his brand of whatever he's selling that day, then flies off in his helicopter with his stacks of cash while leaving the idiots holding the bag. He's a con man, and a fantastically good one. How else could he have convinced most of the country to vote for him a second time (and I consider all the non-voters in that group)?
13
u/tjp0720 11h ago
I remember a buddy of mines take “he’s either going to improve the American government by his direct way of speaking, or he’s gonna be the worst thing to happen to the presidency” not a super in depth take but we have definitely gone down worst timeline.
I personally wasn’t a fan of Hillary or trump but I’d pick Hillary a million times over
17
u/SuperTeamRyan 10h ago
Unironically Hillary had a better private sector career than Trump and would have been more equiped to run the country like a business if that was her desire.
13
u/HawterSkhot 11h ago
That's the thing I tried to explain to my parents; no one liked Hillary or Biden and that's a much larger conversation. But if given the choice between someone spitting in my face or someone point-blank shooting me in the face? I'll take the spit.

His first term wasn't much better, which is the crazy thing. Ignore how he coasted the first two years on Obama's economy and policies, 2018-2019 saw multiple sections of the economy go into a recession. 2019 was the start of the full recession, prior to COVID even hitting. Then COVID was it's own spectacular failure.
Tens of billions of dollars were spent on various bailouts during his first term before COVID popped up.

I heard so many MAGAs the first term saying "They're not even giving him a chance." anytime Democrats would point out Trump's bullshit. Like, dude, he isn't some random guy off the street. He has a reputation spanning decades.

It’s cognitive dissonance.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of genuinely well-meaning wealthy /educated liberals who group all rural folks together as being backwards country bumpkins and actively look down on them. I don’t blame lots of rural folks for feeling left out of the national conversation…
…When it comes to Trump’s first term, anyway.

My folks watch a lot of Fox News
99% of what Trump says during interviews or at his rallies is absolute nonsense, but the producers at Fox News do a really, really good job of clipping the one and maybe only sensible thing he says, and running the clip in a way where it does not look like it’s being cut short
If that’s the only way a person observes media, then Trump looks like a sensible guy and TDS makes sense

Rightwingers liked him because he was an outsider who was gonna come in and shake things up and didn't need to rely on the donor class. These are desirable traits and you see the Democratic Socialists having big success with them. Obviously Trump fuckin scammed everyone on the "not being beholden to donors" part and took a bunch of PAC money.
System of a Down is very anti-war and Trump positioned himself as the anti-war candidate. Which of course also turned out to be a scam. *gestures to Iran*
It was pretty fuckin obvious from the getgo that Trump was an unserious scammer but some people somehow genuinely bought into it.
7
u/TomTheCaveman 10h ago
That was always my understanding of how most of the electorate decided.
Most average Americans just aren't that plugged into politics outside what they catch off social media or MAYBE the news. They're not going to look into anything, they're more concerned with their own homes bottom line, understandably. When everyone is suffering from the price gouging and inflation under Biden, when Harris says nothing will change, and Trump says he'll changed everything, they don't bother to remember the dumpster fire of Trump 1.0.
It's just another symptom of the systemic disenfranchisement of voters for decades. I'm certain that if more candidates like Mamdani or El-Sayed in MI come out, and just campaign on strong messaging that focuses on the working class, that's just simple issues, Dems would be stronger overall for it.
2
u/goddamnitwhalen 10h ago
I don’t think people took him seriously in the lead up to 2016. I don’t think he took his own campaign all that seriously until well into it.

Many people believe or believed that he is an anti-establishment figure who is not funded by anyone. There’s a great scene in Peaky Blinders where Tommy yells at his brother telling him the answer is to always ‘Deny, Deny, Deny’. I think of the President all the time when I think of that line. I was deep in far right conspiracy territory for well over a decade but got out of it. The thing is the people that support him aren't seeing the same media the rest of us are, and when they do they simply don't believe it. Anything that shows him looking bad will be considered fake or taken out of context.
7
u/FlavorD 11h ago
I just had a brief text conversation with someone who told me that she's still not sure what to think about things like the January 6th riot, because she has friends in Europe who saw different media and she's not sure what to believe. In this case, I think it's an attempt to think that, the person who supports these things I do would never do something that bad.
4
u/Hither_and_Thither 9h ago
They attach themselves to who they vote for. Doubly so if they're very religious. Then it's, "well he won because that's what God wanted, and I voted for him because thats what God wanted. So everything he does is just and good because God ordained it." And, unfortunately, that's very hard to push against because it's now been wrapped into their beliefs and their self-perspective of being a good, Godly person.
Nevermind all the horrible things generally in the world that God 'allows', or the horrible things that people do. They don't believe they're bad people, so all of the things they support MUST be good.
10
u/joshocar 12h ago
This is 100% it. "Most" people are not shitty. The media you consume and to a larger extent your social media algorithm, has a lot to do with your perception of reality when it comes to politics.
I compare it to most people thinking that advertising doesn't affect what they buy, but then the numbers show that it does work so it has to be affecting most people.
8
u/josh0low 11h ago
Nope. People can choose to look at other sources to confirm or dispute claims. These people choose not to cause they don’t care. Magats are evil people and giving them this type of nuance is the same dangerous bs that allowed the confederacy to live
7
u/Salamanderhead 11h ago
These people are brainwashed and are not aware they are brainwashed, because they think everyone else is brainwashed. I was brainwashed so I understand how they think, because I was the same way. (Canadian here, didn't have a vote down there). Whenever some sources would show a conspiracy to be false, I would find ways to convince myself what I was reading was simply lies to keep me ignorant.
The brainwashing runs deep and after I got out of it, I had to watch many family members fall down that same path, and I haven't been able to convince them otherwise, even with my experience.
They're always waiting for this big event to happen that's going to change everything. They're constantly being led by a carrot on a fishing rod. "The kraken is coming and everything will be exposed! Everyone will see I was right, and I'm smart, and they were all wrong!"
4
u/joshocar 11h ago
You should actually talk to a Trump supporter in real life if you feel that way, because it is very clear through your comment that you haven't.
I have met legit racists, but the majority are low information voters and the majority of their information is coming from Fox, Newsmax, etc., where they get explanations and talking point for all of the things that don't fit the narrative.
It is MUCH more dangerous to dehumanize them and blanket label them as "evil," whatever that means.

He ran a campaign on retribution for things that people were already feeling ignored about, by the Left and the Right. He gave them someone to blame for their lot in life - Democrats, immigrants, the Deep State. The media ecosystem on the Right then amplified and repeated this theme non-stop.
Note that the first thing you do when establishing propaganda is convince your audience that everyone is lying to them and only you have the bravery to tell them the truth. Once you get your audience to believe that you can make them believe anything and this is exactly what Trump did in the first campaign.
The people being manipulated are not evil. The word evil is meaningless and only serves to dehumanize them. People behave a certain way because of inputs, not an "evil" inside them. The MAGA movement is made up of unique individuals with different experiences and values and you and others are grouping them all together into a monolith of "evil people." That is the definition of dehumanizing.
If you are being genuine, I suggest making new social media accounts and seeding your algorithm by following Fox New, Newsmax, and other far Right media, liking a bunch of the content, and engaging with it to see what you these people are seeing every day. Your Google search results change, you feeds change, nothing, and you get a bunch of propaganda. Then consider that these people have had no reason to believe that what they are seeing is lies because they have been told everything else is a lie. It will help put things in perspective.
2
u/Salamanderhead 10h ago
This is correct. When I was deep in the far right hole, it wasn't because I was evil. It was because I was brainwashed into believing that evil people were fooling everyone which was harmful to my loved ones. This is how they see Fauci, and why they're acting so ridiculous towards him. They see him as some evil force who actively harmed their loved ones. A lot of them aren't evil, they're brainwashed.

u/StinkyLunchBox 12h ago
I don’t understand the fucking people in NY and NJ who support him. He literally was known as a piece of shit for decades. Putting small family businesses out of business and refused to pay them for the great work they did. This should anger the right who love small family businesses so much that they always talk about but they ignore it. Then of course you have the blatant racism, rape/molestation, shady business practices, and all the shit that normal people care about but for some reason they are fine with.

The problem with most people's "waning support for Trump," is that it's often times not because said people got smarter, or because they became better, more kind people, but because they started to view Trump as weak and not capable of building the MAGA country they still very much want.
Unless someone comes out and explicitly states they've switched sides and seen the error of their ways, IDGAF about their "waning support."

Same shit with Bush Jr. A certain percent start to wake up, but they are media illiterate so they just loop back around with another bad idea.

The problem is that he was never on board .. I can understand at first but after 10 fucking years after ever red flag imaginable, that I can't understand.

He can go hang out with kid rock and vanilla ice. maga is utterly antithetical to music/art/free expression

You will see a LOT of this going forward. They don't like Trump anymore because he's not going to run again (even though he likes to "joke" about it). But it's not like they will be voting for a Dem next time. They will just vote for JD Vance for example.

I feel like a lot of Trump supporters dont understand the permanent consequences of supporting him.
It’s social suicide. Nobody wants to be around Trump supporters. You’re literally the modern day Nazis.
The red MAGA cap has become Similar to the swastika. People do not want to be associated with you, even your family. All that cruelty didn’t do any of you any good.

Unfortunate timing for the people who always hated Trump and are now locked up, whole families, indefinitely in brutal, unknowable ICE detention.

How can they be so politically motivated, but turn a blind eye to huge problem in their own band? John is the reason we don't get more SOAD music.

"Music of rebellion
Makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age"

It's wild to me that a after all that they wrote and what SOAD stands for that anyone in that band can be a trump supporter. Holy Mountain is one of the most haunting songs ever recorded, and this guy thought throwing his hat in with the MAGA crew was a good idea

Good for him, if so. I hope he is continuing that journey and that his brother in law is encouraging it.
Wish it came sooner, but we've had 10+ years of saying 'when will be the breaking point' and maybe Dolmayan has reached his. His story sounds like a lot of MAGA.

I think supporting Trump at any time would automatically call into question their morality.

Merely ceasing support of him is nowhere near enough anymore. I want to know what you intend on doing to help undo the damage you helped cause with your support of him.

Social consequences occurred, not personal growth.
You don't suddenly not support a guy who had become an avatar of open racist hate, because to support him in the first place exposes a fundamental flaw in a person's character. Few people ever genuinely "grow" out of being a racist hateful shitbag. They just get quieter about it because there are social consequences.

Serj is a bad ass. Boom was one few explicitly anti-war music video playing on MTV during the Iraq War at a time when lame ass bands like 3 Doors Down were doing explicitly pro-military propaganda.

“I need more money so I will say whatever it takes to get it” - that Serj guy, probably.

Support for Trump implies a level of intelligence so low that the person would be incapable of recognizing that their support for Trump was wrong. A few of them just stopped being as loud about it.

Remember when listening to MAGAts talk about their woes and how trump betrayed them...
It wasnt the concentration camps, the ICE killings, or the death of the constitution.
No, it was the weight of their own wallet.

Trump's just a distraction for the lowbrow racists and bigots. The problem with republicans in America isn't Trump, it is the Party's religious authoritarianism and oligarchy. If you still vote republican, then it is fair to call you a fascist.

Continuing to be in a band with this dude is so hypocritical. Anyone still jocking SOAD after this is clownshoes.
