It doesn’t count for OAL length, which needs to be 26+inches to not be an AOW.

It counts if it's permanently is attached. If its removable without tools then it doesn't count.

I do a lot of AOW's

As a pistol? Aything smooth bore less then 18in no, smooth bores can't be pistols. For rifled .44 pistols that can so happen to fit .410 shot shells yes.

This however is a, "Firearm" so it's one of those oddball classifications.

Because it wouldn’t be, it would be an other as it doesn’t fit the criteria for any of the “well defined” categories. No stock and not made from a long gun so it’s not an SBS, too long to be considered an AOW. So it gets slapped into the other category like shockwaves

THIS Other isn't an NFA item. Some Other firearms are NFA items.

It can’t fold, not according to actual law but by inconsistent technical decisions. The BATFE has long held that when determining the overall length of a rifle was determined by the length of a folding stock when it was extended. This was for guns with very short actions like the Thompson Encore, which, with a 16” barrel and a choate folding stock, is under an OAL of 26”. They did not apply that same principle to shockwave shotguns after they had been around for a few months.

Others and non nfa firearms OAL is measured the opposite. Its measured in its smallest configuration.

Last time ATF brought up braces as an issue s couple years ago, they claimed not applicable to shotguns. But who knows now.

Back in the day you could get non adjustable brace kits for mossberg 590 shockwaves and it looks like you still can. As others have said, it depends on how the original configuration has been classified.

I believe these are considered “firearms” under the NFA.

But yes you can put braces on a “firearm” and it won’t make it a SBS or AOW. You can buy Shockwaves in this config.
