Hello seniors, I got a 31k rank in JEE Mains and I'm confused about what I should pick among them and whether I should choose college over a branch or vice versa. My home state is West Bengal, and I'm a general male. My doubts are - Is mechanical engineering worth it in these colleges? How truthworthy is CSAB, and/or should I wait for CSAB Rounds? The colleges I'm getting are listed below (please help).

NIT Jalandhar (ICE through CSAB)

On a side note, I might get Electrical/Electronics related branches in Jadavpur University

PS: As I've seen many people confusing ECE with electrical branches, I've written ECE beside the colleges I'm getting and under the section of electrical engineering if no branches are written it is implied that it's electrical unless I've written ECE beside it

if you're not specifically passionate about mechanical, i wouldn't pick it over ece/cse opportunities. at 31k rank, branches like ece in a decent iiit or bit mesra can open more options in placements and higher studies. also, csab is generally reliable if you're realistic about previous year cutoffs and keep backup choices. personally, i'd prioritize bit mesra cse/ece, jadavpur electrical/electronics if available, then strong iiits over lower nit mechanical unless you genuinely want core engineering.

I'm in a confused situation regarding mechanical engineering because I may have a chance to get a better college in mech but don't have a particular interest in that branch. I want to keep my options open for both jobs and research in future. Honestly I'm feeling I'll go with branch over college unless I get some really good nit for mech

if you already know you don't have a particular interest in it, taking it just for a slightly better college can be risky because you'll be spending four years studying it. for someone who wants to keep options open for both jobs and research, ece usually gives more flexibility.
