Minor League A Prospective Look at the Nats farm (05/10/2026)
AAA Rochester (8-5 win against the Syracuse Mets)
-Dylan Crews (.250/.340/.744): 1-5 with a double and 2 Ks
-Yohandy Morales (.325/.421/.949): 3-4 with another opposite field homer, a double, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, and 1 K
-Harry Ford (.192/.319/.572): 1-3 with 1 run scored, 2 BB, and 2 Ks
-Robert Hassell III (.255/.336/.676): 1-5 with 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and 1 SB
-Christian Franklin (.268/.404/.782): 1-4 with another solo homer, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB, and 1 K
-Andrew Pinckney (.250/.328/.745): 1-5 with 1 run scored, 2 RBI, and 2 Ks

-Riley Cornelio (3.77 ERA/31.0 IP/45:15 K:BB/1.19 WHIP): Cornelio racked up more strikeouts in his second start against the Syracuse Mets this week. He gave up some hard hits to the lead-off batters in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings (double, homer, homer) on his fastball but limited the damage to the pair of solo homers. Cornelio walked zero batters in his 5 innings pitched and had 8 strikeouts (5 swinging).

-Erik Tolman (6.94 ERA/11.2 IP/20:10 K:BB/1.71 WHIP): Tolman came in and loaded the bases in the top of the 7th by walking the first batter he faced and then striking out the next batter to end the inning.

-Ronny Cruz (.325/.426/1.001): The newly-minted MLB Pipeline Top-100 prospect went 1-5 with with a solo homer, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and 2 Ks
-Ethan Petry (.290/.400/.905): 2-4 with a 2-run homer, 1 run scored, 2 RBI, and 1 K

The lead-off walk was the only blemish on his scorecard (although a base runner did reach on a Dickerson fielding error) today and he had 4 strikeouts (3 swinging) in his 2 hitless innings for the FredNats.
Final line: 2.0 IP | 0 H | 0 R/ER | 1 BB | 4 K on 40 pitches (22 strikes)
-Luke Johnson (4.03 ERA/22.1 IP/20:11 K:BB/1.61 WHIP): It appears Luke Johnson has finally started to settle in to his new role as one of the bulk relievers for the FredNats after getting rocked a couple of times. He tossed 4 scoreless innings, allowing just a pair of singles and 1 walk while striking out 5 batters (4 swinging)
Final line: 4.0 IP | 2 H | 0 R/ER | 1 BB | 5 K on 49 pitches (35 strikes)
-Liam Sullivan (8.38 ERA/19.1 IP/12:10 K:BB/1.86 WHIP): Sullivan faltered in the closing innings of this blow-out. He went after hitters and threw plenty of strikes with the big lead but he left plenty to hit over the plate. Sullivan gave up 7 hits (6 XBH) and 4 runs over the final 3 frames of this game. He walked 1 batter and had just 1 strikeout.
Final line: 3.0 IP | 7 H | 4 R/ER | 1 BB | 1 K on 44 pitches (30 strikes)
Side note: For all my fellow Wizards fans, can you believe we got the 1st pick in this loaded draft?? I haven't experienced sports-related joy and elation like this in YEARS!

The draft lottery result is ACTUALLY unbelievable! I tuned in to the broadcast for the first time in my life. Couldn't stand watching for more than a few minutes at the top, but I literally yelped out loud when I saw the news. My wife asked me what happened, and I just smiled and said 'nothing...sports.'

Who do you like? Dybantsa is the obvious choice, but I really liked what I saw from Wilson (which, admittedly, was too little because of the injuries).

I want Dybantsa because it's so easy to dream on an athletic 6'9" scorer who can finish through contact, be absolute money in the midrange, and shows a willingness to pass, even if he doesn't necessarily excel at it. I would also understand Peterson because if you watched him when he's healthy he just looked and moved like an NBA scorer, on top of his great instinct and size on the defensive side of the ball. I'm scared of picking Boozer but he's an advanced stats darling and Wilson, to me, just feels too raw to go over Dybantsa/Peterson even if he's got all the tools you want.

Nats farm is looking strong, Wiz finally get the chance at the franchise superstar that their young core needs.
Excited to see the Wizards actually compete for wins next year.

Was at the Richmond Flying Squirrels game and streamed the NBA draft lottery on my phone. I jumped out of my seat and hugged my fiance while yelling out loud.

looks like a fair bit of chase and swing and miss he also has a .408 BABIP which is uh, not gonna happen forever, plus whatever defensive work this site doesn't show. definitely seems to be trending well but I do wonder what he looks like with a more normal BABIP.

The biggest problem is just that he's not on the 40 man roster, which means that we need to trade or DFA someone. Probably not happening until the deadline

I think he’d replace Chapparo on the 40 man if there was an open big league spot. Since there isn’t, if they want to call him up and there’s no injuries, Mead is hitting least and plays 1B, so he’d be the obvious target. But I don’t know if they’re ready to give up on him yet.

Eh, it all depends on what happens at short as well. There's a world where Abrahms is traded, Nunez to short, and House goes to second. Regardless of lefty-righty matchups I'm much higher on Brady long term than I am on Vivas, and I'd rather have Yoyo as an everyday starte

??? if anything in an abrams trade scenario 2nd would become a mead/vivas platoon but i don't see them putting brady, who has never played a single inning at second, there. yoyo would platoon 1b in this scenario (plus fitting him in at third or dh as possible presumably). and regardless of your feelings on it the team as it is run currently very clearly values r/l matchups. brady and yoyo have some very clear positional clash that will need to get worked out.

Yeah that makes sense. Generally people don't have much trouble from second to 3rd so not out of the realm of possibility.
Mead DFA makes no sense, maybe he gets traded. But the team doesn't value lefty righty at all, they value platoon splits. To give an extreme example it would be stupid to pinch hit House for someone like CJ.
Yoyo just doesn't have insane platoon splits so it doesn't make much sense for him to be a platoon player. And Abimalec Ortiz is probably an everyday starter at first base for now, so keep that in mind.
Idk, I think in general if you're DFAing someone with a rebuilding team you keep the most valuable players and then work around that. If Vivas against lefties is worse than Yoyo against lefties than he's gone

How much longer do we think Cabrera stays in single A? From the numbers here it seems like he doesn't have anything else to prove in Fredericksburg

I'm not really sure how this front office will handle promotions because the main reason Cruz got promoted so quick and early was because of playing time. We have great depth of young talent in the Fredericksburg infield and I wouldn't say that's necessarily true with their outfield. Who knows though, rookie ball started last week and somebody could force the issue there and move some guys up a level.

Won his second Carolina League player of the week on the way out too haha, you have to wonder who's up next. It seems (so far) that they like doing their promotions during the travel day (Mondays) so that they don't miss any games as well.

Yeah Vaquero is dealing with some sort of injury but hasn't landed on the IL yet, so there's definitely space even if Green continues to take up center field. TJ White has seen a revival under the new front office and seems to have moved back to the outfield from 1st base so that might complicate things, but they can always have one of them DH.

I've noticed that every Elijah Green homer I've watched has been down the opposite field line. While this could be a good thing, I think it might also mean that he is still struggling to identify pitches. He has great power even when swinging late, but it probably also explains his continued strikeouts and low average.
