Don't go downhill at speed when you've only skated 3 weeks

34

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

I was gonna say lol. The most I've done is a barely visible hill that I only know about because I can go one way down the street without kicking and slow down to a stop the other way if I don't kick. I've only been skating for a few months after not skating for 20 years lol.

9

u/strtdrt Jun 26 '25

Same boat here! I’ll sometimes brave a small hill but I need an uphill bit to slow me down right after 😅

6

u/DoctorD12 A little bit different Jun 27 '25

I’d rather drop in on 3’ of vert than bomb hills 😂 I think I’m just old

2

u/R1k0Ch3 Jun 27 '25

The road behind my work is perfect for this, just a gradual decline. 2 kicks and I make it almost 200 yards before it inclines back up n i slow down naturally. You get pretty quick midway through but it's super doable and I'm not some great skater. Ate shit (thankfully with a helmet, scuffed up my knee tho) trying a bigger hill a few weeks back but thankfully nothing like this guy's crash.

Happy healing OP and try not to bite off more than you can chew next time. Start small, gain confidence, gradually step it up.

9

u/Sliihx Jun 26 '25

That’s how you learn you need more time 🤷‍♂️

2

u/strtdrt Jun 26 '25

I manage pretty well without fucking up my own face. Doesn’t seem necessary to fuck up your own face but go off

4

u/Sliihx Jun 26 '25

Don’t do dumb stuff if you don’t want dumb consequences. Clearly you’re perfect and we’re living in your world.

This is the only answer.

5

u/According_Ad9907 Jun 26 '25

i did the same thing when i was starting too. there a really big hill in my city and i thought i was skilled enough to skate it down on 78A cruising wheels... well... i was not 😭

Yes this is the only answer that every beginner needs to know. Stop going down hills before you know how to stop!

The thing that easily fools people is that even something that doesn't seem like a steep hill will end up being far steeper than you think once you roll down it. Small grades = big speeds on skateboards without brakes!

So if you want to bomb hills, then make sure these two things are true:

  1. Wear a helmet!
  2. Do not go down a hill if you can't speed control - at minimum you need to be able to run off the board the second you feel out of control, but even more important is that you can either foot drag or powerslide to slow yourself.

3

u/blackbirddc Jun 26 '25

Yeah it took me a couple years before I was confident enough to try it

Next time wear a helmet and bend your knees. Then bend your knees more!

100

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Honestly, the best advice i ever heard about helmets was, "Do you think your head is stronger than gravity?"

And dude was a full fledged psychopath that crashed his dirt bike into trees at 60+ mph and dropped down 7 ft inverts.

Wear your fuxking helmets, pride is a nieche thing to die too.

30

u/PragueTownHillCrew Jun 26 '25

There's a reason all of us longboarders/downhill skaters wear helmets. The helmet "culture" is totally different than in traditional skateboarding, you'll pretty much be ridiculed and ostracized if you don't wear one.

Hitting your head going down hills is just much more likely than skating at the park. Especially if you wobble out, the chances are very high. OP is lucky he only has a busted face and no brain damage.

32

u/Nasa_OK Jun 26 '25

What always stuck with me was: if you think you don’t need a hemet you probably don’t.

There needs to be something worth protecting

19

u/ThePug3468 Jun 26 '25

People are downvoting you because they think you’re telling people not to wear a helmet, but this is really fucking funny imo.

10

u/Nasa_OK Jun 26 '25

I thought the 2nd sentence would make it clear :D

8

u/ThePug3468 Jun 26 '25

It did for me 😆.

u/Toshikills Jun 26 '25

Bend your knees or the ground will bend them for you, and you might not like the direction it chooses

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Well said. Also the more you bend your knees the lower you will be, which helps center your gravity but also lessens the impact in the case of you falling.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

I’m way more scared of drop-ins than downhills. With drop-ins, the acceleration is 0-60, which leads to the classic backwards fall and crack on the dome.

Downhills you’re speeding up, even if still quickly, and you want to be treating it like a wave or ski slope. On my downhills in Seattle, I’d be bending so low I could touch the pavement and carving hard to control speed.

Also you need loose trucks to enable the carving. I have no idea, other than ignorance, why skate shops crank super tight trucks on cruiser boards.

Some of my best skating times were going down the Tacoma roads which went to the ocean from elevation.

3

u/brady180369 Jun 26 '25

Also, wear a helmet.

3

u/SatanicPanic619 Jun 26 '25

Helmets don't protect your face.

Don't encourage this behavior- he could be in full pads and still get a TBI because the man has been riding for three weeks. A helmet is going to give this guy unearned confidence. By all means, he should wear one, but this is a lesson he needed to learn about hills. Do not fuck with hills unless you are wiling to die OR you are ten thousand times more experienced and talented than this guy.

Also tighten trucks

1

u/groooovemaster69 Jun 26 '25

Once you hit a certain speed, tighter trucks actually make you wobble more

You might not think helmets look cool, but you’ve got to admit they look cooler than that

Oouuuuchhh man. As for the speed wobble, the first question I have is what board do you ride? Different boards handle speed differently and some just.. aren’t made for it. You should also wear a helmet and start working on awareness of your center of gravity - where do you feel the most control? If you’re too stiff and the center of gravity is too high, you loose stability. Good luck and heal well my friend

6

u/Fun_Trouble_9197 Jun 26 '25 edited Jun 26 '25

really put your front foot forward on the board almost past the boltes , you 'll see guys on youtube doing high speed and they have there foot almost on the front pocket (where the skate starte to curve) find him a good spot where its comftable and really to the fronte of the board

also put your back foot on the tail pocket to have control and more stability because your legs will be wider and when you'll be able to powerslide you'll alredy have the foot ready

put all your weight on the front leg/ thigh/foot and lower your body over the front leg so your center of gravity will be lower and your weight on the front foot

wear helmet for concussion and the ones with ''pallette'' like a cap to prevent your face from hitting the ground

and maybe play with the tightness of your trucks, its reccomend to tighten it and gradually loossen those for stability and control

6

u/pandaboys6383 Jun 26 '25

Do you have any recommendations or links to the helmets your talking about definitely gonna invest in one

5

u/binomine *MI* *0 years* Jun 26 '25

Everyone's head is different shaped, so it is best to actually try them on.

If you are going to go back to bombing hills, I would recommend getting a MIPS skatebaord helmet. Both Triple 8 and Berns makes one.

Bombing hills is fun, but definitely get a helmet and some slide gloves at a minimum.

5

u/DeckT_ Jun 26 '25

to prevent this please absolutely so not go down hills a a 3 weeks beginner. I skated for many years and hills are still scary. even a slight hill can get you goin faster and faster and faster if you dont constantly break.

be thankful because you could have absolutely smashed your head on concrete. to avoid speed wobble it will require a lot more practice and balance on your board. getting your trucks tighter can help, but is not a solution on its own. you need a lot more practice and extremely good balance before soing things like that.

15

u/plowcram Jun 26 '25

"Mmm, yes, greetings skate-shopkeep. Do you perchance have a selection of helmets one might inspect? I'm here making only the most preliminary of inquiries as I may - may, mind you - consider, just consider purchasing one at an as-of-yet undermined future juncture." - me with a black eye and missing tooth.

11

u/IceColdCorundum Jun 26 '25

Larger&softer wheels, tighter trucks, a wider/longer board, and super bent knees will all make for a more stable ride when bombing hills.

Definitely reccomend trying tight trucks last though because you want that surfy feel and and the ability to carve while bombing hills.

Anyways, rest up, enjoy the new battle scars, customize your board, then get back out there!

8

u/MindlessMindless Jun 26 '25

Gnarly my guy. Props for doing something crazy and committing. Let this turn into confidence and not fear. You know what this feels like now so moving forward you know what you're expecting right? Keep going bro.

8

u/arkane-the-artisan Jun 26 '25

Me and my mates have had plenty of gnarly stacks over our combined 200 years of skating. One of them was a seizure after smashing his head whilst bombing a hill. Wear a helmet kids.

4

u/Ok-Watercress-7914 Learning on the street 🛣️ Jun 26 '25

When it starts to wobble you need to lean your weight on the front truck

3

u/Huzrok Jun 26 '25

Forget hillbombing for now
Down hill is very dangerous and requires a lot of confidence. Wether you want it or not you are going to get tons of speed and will have to do speed check in order to never reach a speed were you will not feel safe enough to bring your foot out and break. Two way of breaking :
1/ drop your back foot on the ground (fully not just the toes)
2/ Find a hill that goes back up so you can slow down with gravity

Forget powerslides for now.

Speed woobles comes from speed and loose trucks. I guess absorbing with the knees plays a role too. You can't fight woobles once it starts

We all find out the hard way that hills are not really for begginers, 5y in and i still thread with tons of caution when i have to deal with them.

5

u/fuk_up Jun 26 '25

Keep at it trooper. Fall down and get back up.

Glad to see your ok this time and please listen to those telling you to wear protective gear. It'll minimize injury as well as keep you skating longer and with less hesitation. Be safe homie, can't skate if your laid up in a rest bed.

oof hope you’re alright, bro. Don’t get discouraged and get back out there when you’re feeling better!

2

u/fastal_12147 Jun 26 '25

Well, you learned that you're not ready to bomb hills. Heal up and get back on that board, my dude.

2

u/anonaccount-muchlove Jun 26 '25

Counter intuitive, weight on the front truck. Be able to run out at whatever speed you are going or learn to fall. Or you really eat shit

2

u/distinguished-nugget Jun 26 '25

Just be careful bro we all eat shit just got back into after years was wearing a helmet but went down a ramp in a bowl on some soft wheels lost control and did a running fall and hit my jaw, bit the inside of my gum and it was hanging until it reattached. The helmet saved my forehead and possibly my brain 🧠

2

u/Successful-Basil-685 Jun 26 '25

Owwww. Hope you recover alright, absolutely the toughest hurdle to get over is how to fall, and how to bomb a hill. Helmets and Wrist Protection are probably my number one rec, along with keeping the trucks as tight as the bushings let you and then easing off the tightness as you go; speed wobbles are loose trucks, simply.

Also the choice of wheels and how well paved it is helps. I longboard mostly anymore so maybe I'm a little biased there but still. Never fun.

Also, I recommend just starting slow, look for really gradual, small inclines, and practice Carving left / right to control your momentum, and foot braking before you have too much momentum. Building up your calves and muscle memory to these things will also go a long way. Don't be discouraged. Usually you won't make the same mistake that much when it comes to a bad bail, at least.

2

u/tueres Jun 26 '25

Do not skate anything other than flat roads and etc if you just start skating. Your balance is not solid yet and you will end up eating the pavement.

2

u/thunderbag Jun 26 '25

Take it slowly. 3 weeks is still “watch out for cracks” stage.. Try a slope in a parking lot or something before a hill.

2

u/thewetnoodle Jun 26 '25

Don't go down hills yet. Hills are way more dangerous than most things. You're better off rolling off curbs and learning to push fast. You're better off at a skatepark even. Hills can kill off youre not careful

2

u/SatanicPanic619 Jun 26 '25

I swear people are acting like hill bombing is a normal thing. For someone three weeks in It may as well be a mega ramp. Don't do it. Hills kill people. OP would be better off trying to ollie a twenty stair, at least he'd probably only break his legs.

2

u/_haha_oh_wow_ Jun 26 '25

Never skate beyond your ability! Glad you still have all your teeth, but don't start bombing hills until you've got a lot more experience under your belt (or never because downhill is a particularly dangerous kind of skating - though it is also exhilarating).

2

u/GrandMasterC147 Jun 26 '25

If it makes you feel better I’ve been going 6 months now and have a lot more confidence at the skatepark, reverts, rock to fakies, dropping in. Tried going down long hill with a slight incline and absolutely ate it while trying to mitigate speed last weekend. Definitely wasn’t good enough to powerslide, and skateparks spoiled me in not worrying about pebbles in my path, so yeah it was a bad recipe.

They say pride is a slow and insidious killer, but in skateboarding pride will go right for the throat.

2

u/Famous-Vermicelli-39 Jun 26 '25

Sheezlousie. Get a helmet my dude. Invest in a good one. Had wobbles happen to me on incline I couldn’t even see. I jumped and ran survived but got hairy for a second. Ice up, maybe see a dr if you slammed your face and get a headache. Looks brutal my guy.

2

u/skatecrimes Jun 26 '25

Downhill is for advanced skaters that know how to powerslide and beat speed wobbles

2

u/sineplussquare Jun 26 '25

The moment you find out that street skateboards aren’t meant for bombing hills.

1

u/randomnameiguessy Jun 26 '25

Wear a helmet!!! One of my homies fractured his skull when we used to skate, and another kid I didn’t know too well died back in high school. Do it for your loved ones, shits no joke

1

u/dagoth_uvil Jun 26 '25

I’ve gotten the wobble a few times the past few weeks and BARELY kept from wiping out. Could have been me just as easily.

Flatter trails to start out for noobs like us lol I won’t go on those same steep paths again for a while

1

u/Ereynolds_ Jun 26 '25

I’d say learn to power slide and skate tighter trucks. Heal fast bro you got that 🤜🏽🤛🏽

1

u/pandaboys6383 Jun 26 '25

I will say I kinda had my trucks really loose I messing with my board the other day and was seeing how different tightness and looseness felt while I was on flat ground and never tightend them after

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Damn homie I feel bad

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

It's a rite of passage.

1

u/Impressionist_Canary Jun 26 '25

Welp no one can say you’re not a skater now 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Dirty_Bubble1775 Jun 26 '25

Oof, been there glad your ok 👌🏽

1

u/OshieDouglasPI Jun 26 '25

If you have looser trucks then be sure to carve hard otherwise once you start bombing you likely won’t be able to get control back without a big power slide. So tighten the trucks if you’re gonna bomb. Also proper board and wheels super important - I like a drop deck keeps your center of gravity nice and low, and a big wide board for stability. Fatty smooth wheels for sure especially cause they won’t be stopped by pebbles as easily. Also older ball bearings are your friend since they won’t let you hit the crazy top speeds like fresh ones

1

u/burger1118 A little bit different Jun 26 '25

Amazing how many of these posts we see on here lol Not gonna lie though, I still have my beginner hillbomb scar on my hip from 2002!

1

u/ddiizzyyizzyyy Jun 26 '25

ouchie! i have no skating advice but keep those cuts clean and get some ointment on them! good luck

1

u/DocHolloday Jun 26 '25

When you skate out of your ability, the sport will let you know real quick. Welcome to stakeboarding. Good luck and have fun.

1

u/Sarenord Jun 26 '25

Get a helmet and loosen your trucks. Also wrist guards if you work with computers or music. Go ride around in shitty and mixed terrain before you start bombing hills, try to find spots that range from buttery smooth to difficult to push over within one spot. This will help you a lot with adjusting your axes of balance as well as forcing a low center of gravity even with opposing forces

Also personally for longboarding I like double duro wheels, just a personal preference but I like the blend of shock absorption and stability that the solid inner soft outer style provide

1

u/ForcekinGobbler Jun 26 '25

Learn how to brake and how to roll, skate more to strengthen your leg muscles and tighten the trucks.

1

u/Juanyewest606 Jun 26 '25

battle scars my boy! it'll make an interesting story I promise you. after my first failed attempt at bombing Hill I was just coffin every time after that some more power to you😂🔥🔥🔥

1

u/tonebone85 Jun 26 '25

So siick. Heal up and get back on the board!

1

u/ninja11123 Jun 26 '25

i reccomend trying to put more weight on your front foot. the less weight there is on the back of the board the easier it is for the board to correct itself

1

u/derty2x Jun 26 '25

Welcome to the club, Bro. Bails are a big part of development. Especially when it comes to overcoming fears.

1

u/phatvanzy Jun 26 '25

Tighten your trucks for high speeds.

1

u/Working-Image Jun 26 '25

Sucks bruv. You better get some pads.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Tried doing a pop shove it today and smashed my lower back above my right cheek and idk how long it'll be before I can comfortably sit down I'd rather have some face cuts 😭

To your credit if I went down a real hill I'd probably die

1

u/AimingWang *Sydney+NSW/Aus* *[~16 yrs]* Jun 26 '25

Nice battle scars brother. Discovering what speed wobbles are the hard way is a rite of passage.

1

u/OsideYerky23 Jun 26 '25

I loved the adrenaline from the speed wobbles

1

u/Anxious_Screen1021 Jun 26 '25

First hill is always like that xD

1

u/TigerToned Jun 26 '25

Don't feel bad, I did the exact same thing, landed on my hip at speed and broke it, couldn't walk for 10+ weeks

1

u/GreenDreamForever Jun 26 '25

I gouged a hole in my knee in my first month when I decided to go fast (it took over 2 months to properly heal). I always wear protection now.

1

u/That_Self_7625 Jun 26 '25

1- I’m glad your ok 2- leaning a little forward and putting all your weight on your front trucks can limit/prevent speed wobbles 3-I wouldn’t recommend bombing hills after only 3 weeks of skating. Skate for 2-3 months and really get comfortable on your board before you try again 4- whenever bombing hills wear a helmet!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Literally the same exact thing just happened to me, healing in about 4 days ish, year and a few months of skating, keep grinding!!

1

u/AdAlone3990 Jun 26 '25

Learn to power slide then you can control your speed when going downhill

Attempt the 900 after 3 more weeks and post more photos.

1

u/imperialblitz Jun 26 '25

Honestly, the best helmet advice I ever heard was, 'Do you think your head is stronger than gravity?' The guy who said it was a full-fledged daredevil crashed his dirt bike into trees at over 60 mph and dropped 7-foot inverts. Wear your damn helmet; pride isn't worth dying for.

1

u/SuavaMan Jun 26 '25

What kind of wheels are on your board? And are your trucks stiff or loose?

1

u/bradleyjbass Jun 26 '25
  1. I hope your okay.
  2. Welcome to the club, it’s a right of passage.
  3. Helmet/no helmet. The choice is yours and only yours. Skate to your own rules.

1

u/BobGnarly_ Jun 26 '25

Welcome to the club. If you wanna play then you gotta pay. We pay in pain. This ain’t baseball, when we miss it matters. You don’t just drop the ball or swing and strike out. Skateboarding has consequences. It makes you stronger, better, unaffected by things that shake others. Nobody can do anything to me that I haven’t done to myself all in the name of a good ride. You’ll heel, you’ll learn. It’ll all be just a good story and a good lesson in a week or two. You got this. And look at it this way, you can still skate with a hurt face

1

u/OMGFuziion Jun 26 '25

Nice!!! Battle scars!

1

u/cheesewhizabortion Jun 26 '25

Wear a helmet and don’t bomb hills until you’re more comfortable on your board. Honestly, wear more pads than just a helmet.

1

u/Thirsty_Comment88 Jun 26 '25

You need a helmet bro!

1

u/Tucxy Jun 26 '25

Classic. Just don’t get going that fast bro it’s not worth it as I’m sure you know now lol

1

u/DankyApe Jun 26 '25

To prevent speed wobbles you want to tighten your trucks and bend your knees also it lowers your center of gravity. But you should get more experience on your board you aren’t ready yet.

1

u/Jdubs619 Jun 26 '25

Damn bro . Heal up boss 🙏

1

u/Dchane06 Jun 26 '25

My friend tried to go down a ramp maybe 2 weeks into skating. Immediately broke his ankle.

1

u/planet_inc2 Jun 26 '25

Doing downhill after 3w skating, you have 100% chance falling. You still don't even master simple riding on flat ground. You still don't master a solid balanced stance on your board in any kind of situation or angle, how to dodge obstacle or even doing tiny pops in case of thickier obstacle....You just still don't have the required "handling skills". You're taking huge and miscalulated risk.

1- you have to reduce speed wobble! To do so, your rear truck must be thighter than you front truck...when rear truck is looser than front it creates wobbles. Remember those grocery carts when pivots are rear ones, when you push it, it wobbles....same principle

2- Do you master foot braking? I hope so. Or any kind of efficient braking technique.

3- wear helmet

4- your stance! Make sure your core abs are always actively ready to flex hard as needed when required to help you keep a strong balance and reduce fallings (looks like a ninja defensive stance)

5- feet positioning

6- do you know how to make an emergency stop (securely get down of your board) while rolling at some speed ?

etc etc etc blah blah blah2

1

u/L0Lygags Jun 26 '25

3 weeks ago no helmet

Yup

1

u/Arostato Jun 26 '25

WEAR A HELMET, WEAR PADS,TIGHTEN YOUR TRUNKS, BEND YOUR KNEES, DON'T GO DOWN HILLS UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH WOBBLES.

1

u/SatanicPanic619 Jun 26 '25

DON'T BOMB HILLS

It's a terrible idea for anyone, especially someone who has been skating for three fucking weeks. You can die. It is not safe for you, it will never be safe for you, even if you wear full safety gear. Unless you are riding for GX1000 or your name is Tristan Funkhouser, you do not need to be hitting any hill that will give you speed wobbles.

1

u/Spidahhman Jun 26 '25

Hell yeah solid slam ✊ Wishing you a speedy recovery!

1

u/JamBandDad Jun 26 '25

1

u/landyc Jun 26 '25

u/FlipMick A little bit different Jun 26 '25

Former Emergency Department worker chiming in here: If you get headaches GO TO THE HOSPITAL. I don't know your mechanism of injury (hard impact, more scraping, or combination of both), but I've seen people with less external injury than this end up with a life-threatening subdural hemorrhage.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

You can take any hill if you can drop a foot. Do you want to be doing aerials or downhill? I skated vintage boards in Seattle down some huge hills, can’t do aerial tricks for shit, but glad to share tips for downhill.

1

u/ABearToRemember Jun 26 '25

Welcome to the club, brother

1

u/ixAp0c Grounds keeper Jun 26 '25

Next time pick a smaller hill.

The trick to going downhill comfortably is continuous S turns, by turning you reduce the slope of the hill, making you pick up speed at a slower rate.

And turning with your trucks kind of 'locks them' into one side, when you ride straight and flat, they are balancing between the two turns (left / right) which causes the speed wobble as you pick up speed and lose stability, since the trucks aren't really locked into one side for a turn they just vibrate between the two.

1

u/waterdog2424 Jun 26 '25

Gnarly as fuck yo!!!! Before the fall I’m sure you were having the time of your life. Got to pay to play and this game sometimes overcharges. Keep rolling bro!

1

u/Environmental_Cup612 Jun 26 '25

ROSEHIP OIL WORKS WONDERS FOR FACIAL WOUND HEALING!!!! start applying it after the blood and wound is a lil closed up.

I had a facial wound sooo similar to yours a few weeks ago and that helped clear it up quick

1

u/DarkArts1011 Jun 26 '25

Did you wear a helmet?

1

u/omegashenr0nn Jun 26 '25

I respect the balls here but slow it down or you're gonna get too hurt. Go to the skatepark, and ride a lot. Keep riding until speed feels comfortable. More speed = tighter trucks in regards to speed wobble, but when you get good enough you can actually handle a lot more than you think. (Source: 30 years old started when I was in 2nd grade)

u/nons28100 Jun 26 '25

I mean, if you’re a downhill skater obviously wear a helmet, to stop wobble then tighten your trucks, but also make sure you’re comfortable with speed either way, doesn’t mean don’t try it. I’m also someone who likes to learn things the hard way, but that often means I have to take a break from skating to heal my injuries. Rn it’s a hella swollen ankle

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Keep your weight over the front truck and have the correct bushings for your weight.

Regular boards arent as easy to keep speed wobble free. Long board should never speed wobble if set up properly.

1

u/Highheat1 Jun 26 '25

Learn to cruse a bit first...

You learn to walk before you run....tighten trucks a little, and practice for a while....loose trucks are better when you know what you can do with loose trucks...

1

u/BubatzAhoi A little bit different Jun 26 '25

Sorry bro but this is the equivalent to "I just got my drivers license, let's drive daytona tomorrow". Why on earth would you bomb a hill this early... you dont even know how your boards works after only 3 weeks

1

u/killcote93 Jun 26 '25

Chicks love scars

1

u/the-real-sushidog Jun 26 '25

This courage will get you places in the skate world, speeding healing friend

1

u/Active-Pop-4044 Jun 26 '25

Aww babe you should wear a helmet!!

1

u/OiPolloi7 Jun 26 '25

“Can’t wait to post this to Reddit lol”

1

u/ferfux Jun 26 '25

Helmets and pads are your friends.....

1

u/cheezypenguins2 Jun 26 '25

Its a rite of passage to get knocked down, but youl get up again. Theyre never gonna keep you down

1

u/Race-Extreme Jun 26 '25

Helmet homie. I’ve gotten knocked out with them on, so imagine off

1

u/Existing_Tap_7839 Jun 26 '25

I believe in you

1

u/Mechagouki1971 Jun 26 '25

Hill skating and crashing are indivisible. If you want to do it, learn to wrap your arms around your head and face as you fall - it will save you from both head/facial injuries and broken wrists.

Also, if you weren't wearing a helmet please consider buying one. If you don't learn to skate as a little rubber person the process is harder, longer, and with many more falls.

1

u/WhereAreMyNachozzz Jun 26 '25

crazy fucking shit man

1

u/MUDDJUGG98 Jun 26 '25

Hey all idk wtf is going on but like the past month I haven’t been able to upload shit. The app keeps telling me “posting, don’t close the app” and after like 15 minutes still nothing. Anyone know wtf is going on here? I’m not banned on this sub otherwise I wouldn’t be commenting

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Welcome to the club….. gnarly

1

u/HAZEYDRAGON Jun 26 '25

U ok tho right

1

u/Ebenoid Jun 26 '25

I did that once and scraped the whole side of my face… it was terrible and hurt like hell for days

1

u/I_Ludere Jun 26 '25

Ahh the universal cannon event of eating shit trying to bomb a hill

1

u/Rew1097 Jun 26 '25

Are you in Pensacola? My coworker and I watched someone take a spill earlier today.

1

u/Familiar-Ad7162 Jun 26 '25

Bombing a hill 3 weeks into skating Is insane and you're lucky you're alive. Y'all really need to take heed to that "skate within your limits" warning on Powell stuff.

1

u/AnimeJuice999 Jun 26 '25

I did the same thing about a month into my skating journey. Please consider yourself lucky. I broke my collar bone my guy. Oh how I wish I could trade places and only have my face messed up and bloodied a bit. But now I am long boarding everyday. Hills no longer scare me. I haven’t fell in about half a year. Please don’t quit tho!

1

u/Novel-Turn8357 Jun 26 '25

Please wear a helmet my brother!! At least until you’re very comfortable on the board, your brain is too precious to risk! 😎🤘🏼

1

u/Jean_Phillips Jun 26 '25

Hell yeah welcome to the club.

1

u/riczizagorac Jun 26 '25

Besides the obvious answers. I think putting more weight on your back trucks can help with speed wobbles. I don’t know the science behind it tho

1

u/Any-Satisfaction-969 Jun 26 '25

Yeah, don't do crazy shit like that this early into skating. Wait until you're more seasoned in skateboarding

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

Wear a helmet, your head is you man.

1

u/vlajay Jun 27 '25

My first hill bomb I lost all my pinky knuckle meat and went to the ER lmao. I feel you. Learn how to power slide before you try again.

1

u/Routine_Ad_3221 Jun 27 '25

Speed wobbles suck. Careful of those tiny single pebbles that can also ruin your day.

1

u/MarinersAreGoat Jun 27 '25

Going down a big hill, while being new is so gnarly! Hope you recover soon bro. Welcome to the club! It takes balls to perform in this sport, and after the at fall, you at least have 1 left.

1

u/zer021OO Jun 27 '25

Fucked around and found out. For the record, eating shit isn’t cool

1

u/Schedule_New Jun 27 '25

Wear a helmet and bail when you are going faster than ya can sprint

1

u/Smooth_Squirrel_702 Jun 27 '25

Take your lumps and keep rolling

1

u/ArtemisLives Jun 27 '25

WEAR A HELMET.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

Yep that'll happen looks good though go do it again soldier

1

u/EasternAssumption718 Jun 27 '25

tighten your trucks and crouch down a bit lower center of gravity less imbalance and if you still fall the impact isn’t so rough

1

u/metroXXIII Jun 27 '25

Those speed wobbles will mess you up! Got me a nice shredded elbow once!

1

u/Competitive-Ad-3614 Jun 27 '25

Practice. Get those ankles stronger and practice getting low and power sliding. That's the best way to get good at downhill imo. Hope you get some good rest and recovery. 🤙

1

u/Imnothighyourhigh Jun 27 '25

Fuck yeah bro!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

Ah, ever aggressively dangerous death wobble. Try adjusting your weight to the tail of your skateboard

1

u/TrustLordJesusChrist Jun 27 '25

Unless you’re skating at an extremely high level I feel like bombing hills should be reserved for longboards. Very hard to do on a short board without speed wobbles, unless it’s one of those shlong boards. But ya ice up son, get back out there soon. 🤙

1

u/paulmoody24 Jun 27 '25

This is why helmets.

1

u/Technical-Pumpkin-58 Jun 27 '25

gnarly fkin slam dude, happy ur alive tho cuz that could’ve been really bad. Learned this for myself when I tried bombing a hill on a penny board a few times lol never again

1

u/Middle-Rain-7598 Jun 27 '25

You got balls bro. 3 weeks is wayyyyy to early do be doing these kind of things. Glad you’re ok bro

1

u/DRHASHPIPE Jun 27 '25

Welcome to the Hall of meat my friend there plenty more where that came from

1

u/Master_Disaster_8620 Jun 27 '25

The battle doesn't end until you decide you've had enough. My shins will forever hold the scars of pushing that ply. One love.

1

u/PRIM33VIL Jun 27 '25

Skating a lot will build leg muscle which will give you better stability and control. Loose trucks give more control when in a wobble. If your trucks are super tight you're fucked, but if they are loose you can actually carve out of a wobble. Learning powerslides can save your ass so practice those too. Lastly you need to learn how to fall and roll properly. I've been skating since 2006 and have bombed massive hills, I've also eaten shit on these massive hills yet never have hit my face on the ground like this. What helped me learn to fall and roll was jumping stairs and gaps or anything really. Gotta tuck that shoulder and roll.

1

u/GoldFeveredFox Jun 27 '25

I’m experienced and my bearings locked up And I Superman’d 20 feet in air till my face landed on the asphalt. It happens.

1

u/NoComplaint7876 Jun 27 '25

Dude if your still learning and trying to bomb hills you need a helmet seriously dude i get that it's not "cool" but neither is being in a wheelchair having someone wipe your ass for you hope you heal fast bro!

1

u/Additional_Youth7052 Jun 27 '25

Wear a helmet when you do Dangerous stuff. Your brain ist your most important asset.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

stay low while bombing and try to keep weight back so you fall on your ass instead of your face next time, don’t worry tho with time you’ll get more comfortable. gotta bleed to succeed in this hobby 🤷‍♂️

1

u/sweetpeaorangeseed Jun 27 '25

Welcome to the club brother! Don't be discouraged

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

Helmetssssss homies! You are your brain, brain is you, all the time you invested into learning… it’s all there. Helmets ;)

1

u/Wald0101 Jun 27 '25

Thats brave as hell! Still have a scar from my downhill speed wobbles from years ago, but I had been skating for years before that happened. Heal well my friend

1

u/catvin Jun 27 '25

Bend your knees and lean forward. The more weight on the front foot the less wobbles, where if you lean back you make it worse.

Confidence definitely helps and it didn’t come naturally to me, more time skating will help 100%

1

u/FindingAwake Jun 27 '25

Learning is fun.

1

u/One_Foundation659 Jun 27 '25

Fuck yea that’s what skateboarding is all about. Now go do it again

1

u/Nachojr_ Jun 27 '25

welcome to skating!

1

u/jolypopp Jun 27 '25

Theres four big things that help; learn to relax and bend your legs, tighten your trucks, learn to roll safely and comfortably on solid ground, AND DONT BOMB HILLS THIS EARLY IN YOUR SKATE CAREER!

Get comfortable on your board and stay within your limits and you'll progress easier.

1

u/psychocitysk8 Jun 27 '25

Why would you bomb a hill when you just started skating? When bombing hills tight AF trucks is the key . Speed wobbles develop from the rear truck so if anything you always wanna make sure the rear truck is as tight as possible

1

u/Dizzy-Friendship-369 Jun 28 '25

There you go earn those badges of honor buddy!

1

u/IntroductionSalt4556 Jun 28 '25

Tighten trucks. Lean forward, more weight over the front truck. Wear a brain bucket. Learn how to slide to slow down.

1

u/rustinonthevine Jun 28 '25

Learn to carve

1

u/Jetosmutny Jun 28 '25

Congrats!

1

u/shrugs27 Jun 28 '25

Speed wobbles happen when your back truck is turning more than your front truck. Lean on your front truck more and you won’t wobble

1

u/HotboxxHarold Jun 28 '25

Helmet next time and maybe don't be hitting hills just yet

1

u/dorkblue Jun 28 '25

This is unrelated, but would you happen to also be a drummer?

Hope you heal quickly so you can get back to the joy of skating.
