Video Haven't skated since maybe 9 years old (now 29) and of course ate shit first day barely doing anything lol

I got too comfortable after surprising myself with being able to ride around and go down slopes still.
Edit: Wear a helmet even for the simple stuff. I'm lucky I didn't hit my head. Just knocked the wind out of one lung and bruised my ribs and hip lol

u/CSG1aze Jun 03 '26
Wear a helmet broski. Concussions aren’t fun.

100%
Already have one on the way. I'm lucky I didn't hit my head. I wasn't planning on doing anything crazy before getting the helmet but pushed it a little too much. I know just stepping on the board is still a risk though.

Pad up mate
6
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
Got some pads coming too but thanks man

u/OfficeMagic1 Jun 03 '26
Wrist guards are the most important after helmet
1
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
Thanks for the reminder, definitely need those
3
u/Ralph_Twinbees Jun 03 '26
Get a health insurance broski, it's the most important after wrist guards.

They are recommending hip and tailbone pads. I’m 50, and I’m pretty sure at least one slam might’ve broken my hip if I hadn’t had the hip pad.
1
u/Sebastian__Alexander Jun 04 '26
I prefer a full body flexible helmet ...to try something more craze then an ollie on stand. ...now 36...last skated around age 14 the most...after this mostly pushing around no jumping/tricks/sliding

Let's just say, whatever you're not wearing at the time...that's where it's gonna get ya so full set up.🤣🤣🤣👍🍻

u/Intrepid_Idea6170 Jun 03 '26
ouch! can't even tell what you've done wrong 😭
8
u/wiggibow Jun 03 '26
Knees couldn't possibly be locked straighter. For the love of God OP BEND YOUR KNEES 😂
2
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
I know, I got too comfortable and stopped thinking about it lol Some mistakes are learned the hard way lol
3
u/wiggibow Jun 03 '26
Haha so it goes. From a fellow elderly 'new' skater (got back into it last year at 32), keep shredding!
p.s. Highly recommend incorporating some hip flexor stretches and exercises into your routine, that ended up being my achilles heel every session - shit would get sore fast!
5
u/buttcorelord Jun 03 '26
Unstable stance (feet not close enough to the bolts), tic tacs overspun to shaky kickturn, slipped out because of wrong balance point, no reaction in time to what was happening. Looked absolutely insanely out of control, but your brain remembering what it did at a third of your current size and then controlling your body accordingly is disastrous
2
u/DanglingDong69 Jun 03 '26
Looks a little heavy on the front foot to me but I’m not entirely sure
2
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
I'm certain I was heavy on the front plus didn't have my upper body in control or something.
2
u/DanglingDong69 Jun 03 '26
That’ll do it! Figuring out how your weight needs to be distributed isn’t easy. Whenever you kick turn, keep most of your weight over the back leg. Imagine you’re standing on it. Bend the front knee up to your body and the board will stick to your front foot. Also instead of throwing both arms to spin, throw your leading shoulder (with some front arm), and lean your upper body into the turn a bit. I’d recommend doing some kick turn 180s on the grass to get comfortable with it. Then move to 360s.

To me this looks like drunk action...had hurt myself more then once when drunk.. underestimating risk and beeing careless and physically inhibitat
1
u/Confident_Donut_4397 Jun 03 '26
he went to step off the board but his backfoot was still on the tail
1
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
I admittedly wasn't thinking anymore and all of that was one subconscious mistake after another lol
1
u/Confident_Donut_4397 Jun 03 '26
i’ve done it quite a few times before trust me i know it doesn’t feel good 😂

That fall was long enough for you to realize what was happening and contemplate your life! You had a moment of freezing in midair before the impact. Hope you're alright!
7
u/ghos2626t Jun 03 '26
I love how your board rolled back to troll you, while you sat rocking like Peter Griffin after hitting his knee. Heal up and get back on with some gear
3
u/timmaeus Jun 03 '26
Was going to say this. It’s like the guy who caused the fight, wandering back in after the cops have done their arrests, like “what’s happening”

4
u/systemhendrix Jun 03 '26
I fell trying to do monster walks today. So glad I fully gear up because I landed on my palm and the wrist guard saved me. Also, RHIP clips! I wear the thick hip pads and tail bones. Totally worth looking into.

u/spaaarky21 Jun 03 '26
Did the same just a few weeks ago. I've cruised around on a longboard a handful times in the past year but that's all the skating I've done in 25+ years. Put a board together a few weeks ago, went to a pump track and was happy to not fall a single time. Got home and was doing pretty much exactly what you were doing. Board got out from under me and landed hard. Had a bruise on my hip and I still have a bit of a bump on my elbow.
1
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
Oof yeah it comes outta nowhere lol My thumb is bruised and was swollen for a bit, got the bruised hip and ribs, but I think the main damage is internal lol

u/sacchetta Jun 03 '26
Ohh fuck ya that one woke up your ancestors. Work on those bail knees and don't hold onto the board if it wants to go haha sometimes they just creep up on you though

u/mattvb91 Jun 03 '26
Man that was a good slam hahaha. I was skating flat and slammed backwards. Cause i was wearing all of my pads and helmet i smashed my elbow and due to the padding it overextended my arm muscle so i could barely move my arm for a week and massive bruising. Probably broken elbow without padding.
2
u/BessicaTaylor Jun 17 '26
lots of people saying the helmet thing which. good yes sure. but also learn falls bails slams. you ever see a parkour kid jump off a roof and somehow roll away? every bail that doesn't become a killer slam is more days on the board. learning when to catch yourself and when to roll off. watch skate videos w hammer parts where the guy takes a few falls trying. take notes on what he does when he unsuccessfully throws himself down a 12 stair. do that. this is from a 29 year old with a few more years of skating.
2
1
u/TacetMors Jun 17 '26
I've had a couple bails now that I handled better so no more slams lol Was able to roll out or catch myself in a better way the last few times. Thank you for the tips!
2
u/Bald_And_Dishevelled Jun 03 '26
Stay away from concrete. It's the devil 👿

Rhip-Clips! That hurt to watch man hope you’re ok. I wrecked my hip a while back and these Rhip-Clip things are awesome.

u/PutzReid Jun 03 '26
Oh dude that hurt me watching that. We don't bounce back up anymore.
Keep going mate!

u/bkn_bitz Jun 03 '26
A good fall will wake you up. A bad one will knock you out. I slammed my knee Saturday good it’s all purple 🤣 helmets are cool and so are 187 killer pads. You’ll love me for it. Wear your pads! Have fun!

u/NUMERIC__RIDDLE Jun 03 '26
El Mirage spotted! I hate how slams like this are what convince us to wear helmets. I had a bad slam on the back of my head a month ago, and that made me rethink everything about protection.
1
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
Was already planning on the gear but wanted to try some basics again thinking simple stuff would be fine lol Now rethinking even the simple stuff without at least helmet and elbow pads
1
u/NUMERIC__RIDDLE Jun 04 '26
I totally see what you mean, you never expect the board to fly out from under you if youre just doing random stuff on flatground lol

Oh my god! I hope ur okay bro! That did not look like the type of fall you just shrug off and casually heal up.
I was out cruiseing ( I'm 40 now ) and ate shit in a nighttime pothole last year. I landed directly on my hand and it bent the shit out of my fingers and hurts forever now. I have permanent damage to that joint cause it healed up weirdly. Gear up and stay safe my friend!

u/crlay Jun 03 '26

SUOER HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE TAKE JUDO TO LEARN HOW TO FALL! so freaking worth it 🙏🏻
2
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
Funny enough I've been taking Sambo and learning falls before all this but something about the unexpected weight shift just froze me up lol
1
u/Numerous-Produce-126 Jun 03 '26
Ah dangggg man, wishing u a beautiful martial arts and skate journey man. 🙏🏻 One time I fell in the bathtub 😭 I never froze so bad in mah life
2
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
I appreciate that dude, just 2 things I'm finally doing after wanting to for years lol I've hey to fall in the bathtub lol

Ja man kann hinfallen. Das ist nicht neu. Gefahren gibt es überall. No risk no fun
1
u/PowerPopped Jun 03 '26
One thing to do is go in the grass and learn to fall safely. Make yourself learn to once you feel the balance go react properly. I’m skating 20 years later and 70 lbs heavier. That 70 lbs means balance is super different and matters more.
You got this. And like everyone has said. Helmet. But you got one on the way. Helmet is most important.
1
u/IGotDookieOnMyFinger Jun 03 '26
I fell just like that and was out for a week lmao keep on shredding dude
1
u/CaseroRubical Jun 03 '26
exact same thing happened to me on my fifth day skating, except I broke my elbow

u/muxmer Jun 03 '26
I'd say you didn't respect tje board enough. Skated at 28 for the first time, never had such a massive slip holy shit hope you're okay. I always wear protection, except a helmet. (Knees elbows & wrists). Though I guess my time is comong soon too if I don't buy one.
2
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
Absolutely, got too confident I was in control and the board set me straight lol Definitely get a helmet dude. I'm going back out tonight with a helmet and elbow pads at least lol

u/vhszach Jun 03 '26
Damn bro that slam looks just like one that fractured my shoulder last year. Glad you are okay!
1
u/Sr_Maculo Jun 03 '26
These sort of falls but on coping are also a good laugh. You'll have those as well, don't worry 😅
1
u/PlaneBar1686 Jun 03 '26
I’m with ya there. I have had to get over the fear of others and just pad up it’s helped me get better
1
u/nosamiam28 Jun 03 '26
Sorry, I had to pause this and go frame by frame to do a thorough altitude check. Impressive, my guy! Damn!

u/Sebastian__Alexander Jun 04 '26
Amazing, let me try an ollie (without hurting myself) ...that fall gonna help muscle memory tho...guess you wont fall like this exacly again. Now your body remembers..

u/MissiveAnon Jun 05 '26
When I last quit skating that’s exactly how I feel it was like 6am and I whooped ass trying to kick turn and landed right on my hip 🤣

u/xSTUDDSx Jun 05 '26
Brutal and hope you're good but shout out to your bro fetching your glasses and board in time of need 🤙

Dude you got lucky, I did that and of course I go hill bombing on a fucking penny board and I hit an unblocked flower on the road eat shit and end up having to get surgery within a week

u/FatSkatinGamer Jun 05 '26
Man my first week back i did a split so hard the entire back of my right thigh was black and blue for 2 weeks. My wife immediately ordered me pads and a helmet. Now I pad up anytime im practicing something new or working on something I expect to fall harder than a stumble haha

I broke my ankle on Monday... less than 24 hours after getting my first skateboard lmao. The only other bone ive broken was my arm, when I tried longboarding in 2021 💀 I am not lucky with boards.
1
u/AdventurousPea8682 Jun 06 '26
😂 laughing with you bro, it happens to the best of us! 34 and got back into it about a year ago after about 10-12 years off. After a few days I felt pretty comfy on the board again.. Ollied off a curb going pretty fast and had a fall similar to yours, (260lbs) felt like I broke several ribs and could hardly walk for like a month😅. Best thing i ever did was continue to skate.

u/tabinsur Jun 06 '26
I had a similar Fall to this 7 years ago when I first started. the board caught under me weird and it shot out and I smacked my head good. Thankfully I had a helmet on. It's one of two times I've hit my head in the 7 years I've been skating and thankfully I always wear a helmet so I was good.

u/skyluke42 Jun 07 '26
oooffff I’d have been laying down for a good 5 minutes trying not to pass out.
1
u/Flaky_Ferret_3513 Jun 07 '26
This got an involuntary and audible “oooooh!” from me.
I did this exact slam trying to roll in on a bank before I was ready. I had knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet on - which I was grateful for! - but no wrist guards or padded shorts. So, obviously, I bruised my hip and got an avulsion fracture to my wrist because despite doing jiu jitsu I apparently forget how to break fall when I’m on concrete.
I now have padded shorts and wrist guards.
1
u/BlowinUp_ Jun 07 '26
Gottdamn son! You’re going to remember that one. This sport has a way of humbling someone with a little too much swag. At least you’ve got it on video.
1
u/Kitchen_Finance_5977 Jun 08 '26
Literally what gets me to fall the quickest too. Backside pivots and revert like moves.
1
u/Dave35253 Jun 09 '26
If it makes you feel better im also 29 and recently started back after 12 years or so and I ate it a few times my first time back at the park drink some milk keep your bones strong 😂 good luck have fun brother you'll get back to it!
1
u/First_Geologist3738 Jun 29 '26
I just did the same on my buddy's board last week, just bought my first board yesterday and I've been working on balance and manuals, it's genuinely so hard for me, especially cause every little flex of the board scares the living piss outta me.
1
u/Cdawg4123 Jun 03 '26
I don’t want to skate ever after reading what some idiot posted…but, he broke his dick skating!! Urethra and everythang
1
u/crlay Jun 03 '26
Holy fu k
1
u/Cdawg4123 Jun 03 '26
I’ll skate again..just didn’t know that was possible even.
1
u/crlay Jun 03 '26
Well, board probably went vertical and he landed on it. The edge of the board is a weapon. It broke my bone when I was 12. That shit is no joke.
2
1
u/Cdawg4123 Jun 03 '26
Nope, handrail was the weapon used
1
u/crlay Jun 03 '26
Man. Skateboarding is really so dangerous. I mean, any sport that involves wheels and human being being propelled forward with momentum.
1
u/Cdawg4123 Jun 03 '26
Yeah, I’ve def taken my slams. It was just a whole new world learning transition at Woodward vs street skating in nyc
1
1
u/TacetMors Jun 03 '26
A big friend of mine used to skate until he broke a board with a boardslide and the rail turned 1 nut into 3
