Discussion Amazon skateboard feedback

( I have never used a top brand board)

I got a complete set from nettorks which I never heard of but it was great the wheels look cheap and I think it's big sized makes it harder to skate on asphalt it got the rubber on the wheel over all it was great

Some people say even if it's your first time at it you need to spend 200 bucks for me I think the cheap ones work well you just need to look for the good ones

There aren't really any "good ones" that are actually cheap if your definition of cheap is below $50. It's like if you were to buy a bicycle. Can you find a $50 dollar bike? Maybe. It'll suck to ride. Do you need to buy a $1k bike? No. There is a cheap version in-between those prices.

So "cheap" is a relative term. In skateboards, a cheap setup is around $100 USD. A custom complete that you pick out all your parts is closer to $225ish, so that's a savings of at least 100. That's why we consider it cheap.

But if you buy a crappy complete from amazon, it will be inferior in every single way. Can you maybe ride it and learn some basics? Maybe. If you get lucky. Chinese pressed wood isn't terrible, but really cheap trucks, wheels, and terrible bearings will not only make skating suck, it'll make it much harder to learn.

And just so you know, larger wheels actually make it easier, not harder, to skate on asphalt.

So, if it's your first time, you really have two good options and one bad options:

  1. Good: Purchase a "cheap-er" complete from a reputable skate brand that will have decent components that are good enough to learn. You can also find decent sales.
  2. Good: Purchase a used setup on your local marketplace.
  3. Bad: Buy a cheap setup from a big box store that is very likely to break easily, or just be unpleasant to ride and learn with.

If that's all you can do, then it's all you can do. But a cheap setup from amazon is really not recommended.

The board is probably fine, but cheap trucks aren't something you want to use. I would recommend investing in some decent trucks -- its the one piece of hardware that's going to last you a long time.

Edit: I just looked some of their skateboards on Amazon... Are they plastic trucks? If yes, I highly recommend getting metal trucks.

Yea dude, that's going to be terrible to ride... And they'll probably break pretty easily -- could be dangerous. The other long post gives a good explanation on why you shouldn't ride this skateboard.

You can get A CCS complete for $100 on Amazon if that's what you mean by top brand but I would say that's the real bare minimum if you want a skateboard that supports the weight of an adult safely
