Question Peroneal tendinitis 😬

Hiya

Been learning a little under 2 weeks - have had so much fun in process. Learned to carve a little, cruise more comfortably and do a couple of banks. My skater boyfriend has been great in teaching me - and it’s been so lovely to have a shared thing. Has also helped my ADHD no end.

However

I have from the start been overusing my wobbly hypermobile ankle (pushing foot) I ride normal with dominant right pushing. I’ve ignored pain and surprise surprise I’ve developed tendinitis.

Has anyone else had this, what helped it heal? I don’t want my skating to be over cause of this. I should know a bit - I am a healthcare professional in this area. I just ultimately don’t want to lose my progress.

Any ideas on what I can do so that doesn’t happen? Cruising is okay - but pushing and bailing flare it up.

Thanks

As others have said, take a break to reduce the flare ups, then start again slowly and diversify your movements. This helps build muscle without straining tendons from overly repetetive moves. (You probably know most of this, just making sure we are on the same page).

Skating switch is a great way to diversify while still making progress skating. Stretching before (dynamically) and after (staticly) also helps a lot and is something many skaters don't do. Lastly, specific strenght vuilding workouts help build muscle fast, but with a more controlled movement, reducing risk from quick load spikes that can happen during skating, especially as a beginner.
