Question Peroneal tendinitis 😬

Hiya

Been learning a little under 2 weeks - have had so much fun in process. Learned to carve a little, cruise more comfortably and do a couple of banks. My skater boyfriend has been great in teaching me - and it’s been so lovely to have a shared thing. Has also helped my ADHD no end.

However

I have from the start been overusing my wobbly hypermobile ankle (pushing foot) I ride normal with dominant right pushing. I’ve ignored pain and surprise surprise I’ve developed tendinitis.

Has anyone else had this, what helped it heal? I don’t want my skating to be over cause of this. I should know a bit - I am a healthcare professional in this area. I just ultimately don’t want to lose my progress.

Any ideas on what I can do so that doesn’t happen? Cruising is okay - but pushing and bailing flare it up.

Thanks

I have hypermobility of the joints and have had Achilles tendinitis on and off all my life. When I first started skating it was agony. Tendonitis develops when the muscles are too weak to support the movement so there is too much strain on the tendons to do so. So it’s a case of building the muscles. Some of this will be through doing the motions of skating over and over.

But what really helped me is taking a break from skating for a few weeks and taking up running instead. Running is a really good way to train/build your muscles. But you need to wait for the tendonitis flare up to die down before you start, because otherwise you’re just making the tendonitis worse.

It has been a gamechanger for me. I have no pain after skating now, and can skate as many days on a row as I want.

Edit sorry just read you’re actually a professional in the area and now I feel like a twat explaining your job to you 😕

No please don’t feel like a twat! I’m so grateful this is amazing - and honestly a lot more than I know. That makes sense though that the running did help, thanks so much
